The Chinese government and logistics entities have now fully recognized the potentiality in third-party logistics (3PL) and its great significance to the economic growth. Different from traditional transportation and warehousing, 3PL extends the value-added services by big margin and takes an active part in logistics management of enterprises. Its competitive edge, however, stems from the modern concept of supply chain management and techniques, as well as advanced IT that can meet the requirements of enterprises. To successfully transfer into a modern 3PL, the traditional transportation and warehousing industry must learn from foreign-funded firms and gain advancement with a realistic approach, and the government must establish as soon as possible policies and regulations favorable to the development of 3PL market, and at the same time guide the market to healthy development.
