Agriculture and pollution

The seventh report of the UK Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution¹ is entirely concerned with agriculture. It notes the marked changes in the industry, since the second world war, which affect the environment, particularly the vast increase in the use of pesticides and nitrogenous fertilizers, and the growth of intensive livestock units, often situated on areas of land insufficient to take the animal excreta generated by them.
