China’s national security goals during its ongoing peaceful rise and a period of time in the future are to deal with strategic frictions among world’s major powers,handle the Taiwan Question and domestic separatist moves of various kinds,appropriately cope with various kinds of China-related sovereign disputes,protect China’s ever-expanding overseas interests and undertake proportionate international peace and security obligations.These goals are not only the five major tasks facing China’s national defense and military construction during the new period but also the country’s important missions in the fields of diplomatic work and foreign relations.To tackle these challenges and troubles,China not only needs military input,but also needs a new perception and systematic arrangement as well as extensive participation from the society and better coordination among different social participants.To gain a better guarantee for its national security during the period its peaceful rise,China must have an overall arrangement of the functions of various departments,coordinate internal and international situations and try to acquire more understanding from the public.As a key to realizing the above-mentioned goals,China should transcend the narrow "military strikes" mentality and framework and understand its national security as a new world power from a broad perspective.
