Chinese Defense Against Short-sellers

On September 25,brokerage CLSA lowered its target price for BYD(1211.HK) to 0.41 Hong Kong dollars.The next day,just as the short-sellers had hoped,as soon as BYD opened the A share stock began to experience a rapid fall.Since the beginning of August,allegations of short-selling have run rampant throughout the domestic A-share stock market. There are two reasons Chinese investors have blanched at the mere mention of "short-sellers" since the end of summer:First,for the past two years,"Chinese concept stocks" have come under endless attack by American short-sellers;second,news that China’s pilot refinancing program would soon be expanding began to circulate throughout China at the beginning of August. Although short-sellers are still not able to have their way within China,they are already gathering their forces and making preparations;at the same time,forces to defend themselves against these "attacks" are also gathering.
