城市定义的发展

Urbanization will be the main tendency of China in a very long time. It is necessary to study and understand the intension, extension, characteristics, functions and peculiarities of city. A scientific definition should point out its nature and reflect its epochal characteristics. The article discusses the definitions of city from the perspective of its social essence and its social economic functions. It points out that human being is the subject of the city and urbanization is pushed forward by the need of people. And urbanization is the choice of social development. It is necessary to study the material requisite and the spirital requisite of human being with the development of urbanization and accordingly give the new understanding of city.
