This paper summarizes the remarkable achievements achieved by our nation＇s economic development. But air pollution greatly affects our normal life, and energy shortage seriously restricts the sustainable development of the economy of our country. Development and application of new energies are urgently required to solve these problems. Hydropower has the advantages such as clean, high efficiency, and large reserves. As the technologies of extracting and application new energies become more mature, the twenty-first century will be destined to be the century in which the hydropower replaces the carbon-heavy energies.
