Open the Border and Go to Nature: The Formation, Development and Application of Ha-ha in Gardens

Ha-ha is a form of edge in landscape construction that emerged during the times of English landscape garden and played an important role in the development of the English landscape garden. This paper expounds the origin and controversy of ha-ha, and studied the development and evolution of ha-ha during the period of English landscape garden. The use of ha-ha has expanded the planning area of the landscape garden and the design horizons. Ha-ha has also been widely spread and developed. Finally, through ha-ha''s practical application of different types of gardens in different countries since the appearance of ha-ha were introduced, the influence and significance of ha-ha was analyzed to achieve a more macro and comprehensive understanding and recognition of ha-ha.
