A Probe into Strategy of Using Capital Market to Develop Our Commercial Banks

Commercial banks and capital market are mutually competitive and mutually merging. An analysis is made of the current development of capital market in our country. Then discussion is focused on the challenge and opportunities that the development of capital market brings to commercial banks. The growth of capital market diverts credit customers and deposit capital from commercial banks, exposing the latter to greater operation risks and higher competition pressure. At the same time, capital markets helps commercial banks to conduct operation on borrowing and assets business and expand off-balance-sheet business as well as to upgrade assets quality and optimize assets structure. Finally, measures are proposed to use capital market to develop commercial banks, including measures to securitise operation on borrowing, to be proactive in absorbing interbank deposits and developing new products, to significantly expand off-balance-sheet business, securitise credit and banking assets, improve IT regime and speed up personnel training and innovations in marketing.
