A comparative study on the operating efficiency of Chinese insurance companies versus foreign(joint-venture) insurance companies

2011 is the tenth anniversary of China′s accession to WTO.During the last decade,Chinese insurance industry experienced a period of rapid development,and had been opened wider for foreign participation.Until recently,there are 46 Sino-foreign joint venture insurance companies in China.Leading multinational insurance & financial groups and insurance companies of developed countries have all established their presence in China.In 2009,the premium income of Sino-foreign joint venture insurance companies in China was 45.8 billion Yuan,which increased about 4.7 times compared with the pre-WTO era.This article chose 41 insurance companies in China as samples,including 22 life insurance companies and 19 property insurance companies.The author made an empirical analysis by DEA method on operating efficiency of Sino-foreign joint venture insurance companies during 2006 to 2009,and offered appropriate proposals from the government policy point of view in order to improve operating efficiency of the industry.
