We aim to elucidate the roles that organizational creativity plays in the development of firms’ international business competence (IBC). We conducted an investigation grounded in the resource-based view of how this intangible resource supports the development of capabilities and competences. We surveyed 77 Brazilian audiovisual SMEs and analyzed our data using OLS regression analysis. The results partially support the hypothesis that organizational creativity is a building block for IBC but show that its effect is mostly exerted through the mediation of some of the dimensions of innovative and entrepreneurial capabilities. This study has implications both for organizations and public policies, contributing to the debate on how firms stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship and how public agents can leverage SMEs’ internationalization process.  相似文献

This study analyzed an organizational culture in a community hospital in Texas to measure organizational culture change and its impact on Patient Satisfaction (PS). The study employed primary and secondary data, combining quantitative and qualitative methods for a case study. Participant observation was used and archival data were collected to provide a better understanding of the organizational culture and the context in which change was taking place. This study also applied a "Shared Vision" of the organization as the central process in bringing forth the knowledge shared by members of the community hospital who were both subjects and research participants. The results from the study suggest an increase in PS due to the shared vision of one subculture within the hospital. There were powerful subcultures in this organization based on occupation and specialization, and their interests and functional orientations were not conducive to a systems approach. Hospital management was conducted in "silos" and there was lack of feedback between organizational levels of the hospital, especially in financial management, with organizational dysfunctionality in reacting and adapting to the health care market.  相似文献

Much of the international retailing literature echoes major retailers' assertions that inimitable organizational cultures can create competitive advantage. However, the culture concept remains ill-defined and systematic international empirical analysis is lacking. Based on website analyses of nine international retailers, the paper investigates how organizations define their cultures, codify and transfer them into practice, and aim to homogenize them across borders. Although some evidence for organization-specific cultural aspirations is identified, findings suggest that retailers' cultures become homogenized within and between countries. This supports previous work on the existence of industry-specific macro cultures and challenges the resource-based view, which sees culture as a source of competitive advantage.  相似文献

In the context of durables, this paper analyzes some key psychological variables identified in convenience goods literature, for individuals facing private label purchase decisions: private label attitude, price consciousness, brand consciousness and involvement with the product. The role of gender in the relationships among those variables is also examined. On two different durables and with a sample of 432 individuals, all the proposed relationships are significant, except for price consciousness. Additionally, some gender differences among those relationships appear. Data suggest that being a woman (not a man) plays a key role in private label purchase intention.  相似文献

This study investigates the influence of perceived learning culture, developmental feedback and team cohesion on team creativity. The results showed that the demographic variables, the three antecedents and their interactions explained 41 per cent of variance in team creativity. Team creativity was positively correlated with a higher level of learning culture, developmental feedback and team cohesion. In addition to the main effects, two interaction effects (developmental feedback and team cohesion; learning culture and team cohesion) were significant. In view of these results, organizations seeking to increase team creativity need an integrated strategy incorporating elements of culture management, effective coaching and team development. Implications, limitations and recommendations for future research are discussed.  相似文献

This paper examines the relationship between organizational learning culture, learning transfer climate, and organizational innovation. The objective was to test the ability of learning organization culture to account for variance in learning transfer climate and subsequent organizational innovation, and to examine the role of learning transfer climate as a mediator between learning organization culture and innovation. Results showed that organizational learning culture predicted learning transfer climate, and both these factors accounted for significant variance in organizational innovation.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

There has been long term and widespread criticism of organizational corruption around the world. This also includes South Korea with many examples, both historical and current. This is underpinned by several elements but an important and high profile factor is a seeming creation and tolerance of corruption by the large, diversified, dynastic family-owned and run conglomerates – the chaebol – and their nexus with the political elite. This study examines if there is any relationship between organizational culture and the tolerance of corruption within Korean firms. For this purpose, we chose four cultural traits as independent variables: large power distance, the government–business relationship, hereditary management and naembi culture, along with the tolerance of corruption as a dependent variable. Data was collected through a questionnaire survey and we used regression analysis to test our four hypotheses. According to the results, all our hypotheses received statistical support which implies these four cultural characteristics positively affect the tolerance of corruption within firms. The theoretical and practical implications of our findings are also discussed.  相似文献

Innovation is the key to organizational survival and therefore the study of processes that support innovation should be of interest to researchers and practitioners alike. Schein's multi-layered model of organizational culture offers a useful framework for thinking about processes that foster innovation. A defining characteristic of the model is the subtle but important distinctions between the varied “layers” of organizational culture (i.e., values and norms, artifacts and behaviors). The basic assumption of this study is that Schein's model offers a tractable explanation of cultural processes that support organizational innovation, especially in service firms. Despite the intuitive appeal and practical value of Schein's conceptual framework, empirical research in relation to the model is limited. This paper develops a rationale for an empirical model based on Schein's conceptual model; the study reports a test of an empirical model. Data collected from approximately 100 principals of law firms provides a suitable empirical context for a test of the model. The findings generally support the hypothesized relationships. A key result is how layers of organizational culture, particularly norms, artifacts, and innovative behaviors, partially mediate the effects of values that support innovation on measures of firm performance. The findings have implications for theory and practice, especially in relation to building an organizational culture within professional service firms that fosters innovative behavior.  相似文献

Creativity is seen as an important component of advertising, with highly creative ads being easier to recall than control ads. However, the boundary conditions around this effect are less understood. This research examines how creativity influences recall across repeated ad exposures. Additionally, this paper investigates the influence of creativity on advertising wearin/wearout. We utilise creative and control commercials embedded in a television programme for a naturalistic viewing experience, along with a one-week follow-up measure. We find that creative advertisements exhibit higher recall, though repeated exposures reduce this advantage.Further, creative ads are more liked, demonstrate wear in effects more quickly and are less susceptible to wearout.  相似文献

Organizations interested in employee ethics compliance face the problem of conflict between employee and organizational ethical standards. Socializing new employees is one way of assuring compliance. Important for longer term employees as well as new ones, however, is making those standards visible and then operable in the daily life of an organization. This study, conducted in one large organization, found that, depending on organizational level, awareness of an organization's ethical standards is predicted by managerial adherence to and organizational compliance with those standards and/or discussions with peers. Regardless of level, organizational commitment was predicted most strongly by managerial adherence to organizational standards. These findings have theoretical implications for the fields of business ethics, organizational identity and organizational socialization and practical implications for the implementation of ethics policies.  相似文献

Drawing on the approach and avoidance framework in the core self-evaluation literature, this study proposes that core self-evaluation may not only prompt a person to acquire more job-related knowledge but may also inspire employees' intrinsic motivation for their jobs and indirectly help the person think of creative ideas at work. Surveying time-lagged data from workers in Taiwanese firms, this study finds support for the mediating effects of domain knowledge and intrinsic motivation. Although previous research has demonstrated the positive effect of core self-evaluation on overall work performance, scholars argue that creativity is a separate dimension of work performance and that factors conducive to overall work performance are not the same as factors that can stimulate creative ideas. Thus, findings from this study may expand scholarly knowledge about the consequences of core self-evaluation and complement the creativity literature by validating an individual-level antecedent to creativity yet unexamined in the creativity research.  相似文献

Although a number of articles have addressed ethical perceptions and behaviors, few studies have examined ethics across cultures. This research focuses on measuring the job satisfaction, customer orientation, ethics, and ethical training of automotive salespersons in the U.S. and Taiwan. The relationships of these variables to salesperson performance were also investigated. Ethics training was found to be negatively related to perceived levels of ethicalness and performance. High performance U.S. salespeople reported high ethical behavior, while the opposite was true in Taiwan. Customer orientation in both countries was influenced by ethics training. Managers should evaluate current ethics training programs to insure correct ethical behavior is taught and rewarded.Earl D. This study examines the influence of task characteristics and job-related characteristics on the level of customer orientation exhibited by retail salespeople. The task characteristics examined are task variety, task autonomy, task identity and feedback. The job-related characteristics included in the study are job satisfaction, work motivation, organizational commitment, job involvement, role conflict, and supervisor–employee relationship. A survey using a self-administered close-ended questionnaire was conducted on retail salespeople from five major retailers in Singapore. Pearson correlation analysis revealed that the above factors, with the exception of role conflict, have significant influence on the customer orientation of retail salespeople. The six most important predictors of the customer orientation of retail salespeople identified by multiple regression analysis were task identity, organizational commitment, autonomy, education level, job satisfaction, and supervisor–employee relationship.  相似文献
