Compete at the expense of responsibility? Firm’s alliance responsibility in innovation process for SMEs

This paper attempts to investigate the impact of a firm’s social responsibility on its level of competition, cooperation and co-opetition using the game theory approach. We consider a duopoly market that comprises the focal firm which undertakes the responsibility of alliance and peripheral firm that represents all other firms within the technological innovational alliance of Small and Medium Enterprise (SME). Both the focal firm and the peripheral firm conduct technological innovation to overcome the constraints of technology, talent and fund. The study concludes that competitive efforts could substitute alliance responsibility, and cooperation efforts are contingent upon the market demand and/or alliance responsibility.

The influence of knowledge management and professionalization on the use of ERP systems and its effect on the competitive advantages of SMEs

ABSTRACT

Although the literature on Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems emphasizes the importance of knowledge management and professionalization in the use of these systems, the factors that mediate these relationships are not sufficiently developed in SMEs. This study proposes the adequate application of knowledge management and professionalization would help to improve the use of ERP systems. The research uses the structural equation approach based on PLS-SEM technique with a sample of 137 Spanish SMEs. The results show that professionalization and knowledge management significantly affect the use of ERP, as well as imply a mediating effect on the competitive advantages of the SMEs.

关于民族地区民营中小企业实施会计控制外部化的思考

寻找提高民族地区民族地区民营中小企业管理效率的途径对于民族地区的持续发展至关重要,会计控 制的效果直接影响民族地区民营中小企业的管理效率,鉴于会计控制的专业性要求及民族地区民营中小企业的现状,本文提出会计控制外部化的观点。文章从经济学需求、供给与均衡关系的角度,层层分析了会计控制外部化 的必要性和可行性,通过阐述民族地区民营中小企业存在外部化的动因及中介机构和注册会计师可以提供的专 业支持,提出各方可以借助政策支持通力合作,以优化社会资源,实现社会经济效益的最大化。     

Aligning ERP systems with companies’ real needs: an ‘Operational Model Based’ method

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems offer standard functionalities that have to be configured and customised by a specific company depending on its own requirements. A consistent alignment is therefore an essential success factor of ERP projects. To manage this alignment, an ‘Operational Model Based’ method is proposed. It is based on the design and the matching of models, and conforms to the modelling views and constructs of the ISO 19439 and 19440 enterprise-modelling standards. It is characterised by: (1) a predefined design and matching order of the models; (2) the formalisation, in terms of modelling constructs, of alignment and misalignment situations; and (3) their association with a set of decisions in order to mitigate the misalignment risk. Thus, a comprehensive understanding of the alignment management during ERP projects is given. Unlike existing methods, this one includes decisions related to the organisational changes an ERP system can induce, as well as criteria on which the best decision can be based. In this way, it provides effective support and guidance to companies implementing ERP systems, as the alignment process is detailed and structured. The method is applied on the ERP project of a Small and Medium Enterprise, showing that it can be used even in contexts where the ERP project expertise level is low.
