China MOC： steel prices to keep low in China

China＇s fragmented lead and zinc industries are expected to undergo consolidation within the next five years as small-sized miners and smelters are increasingly being forced out of business due to plummeting product prices, an industry analyst told Interfax on November 12.     

China＇s textile industry output rises 10%

According to customs statistics, in 2009, China＇s textile and apparel exports amounted to US$171.332 billion, down 9.65 percent year on year, the industry＇s exports hovered at a low level of about 11 percent in the first 10 months, export decline narrowed 1.56 percentage points in November, but the recovery rate was slow. Export decline mainly concentrated in small enterprises.

The Chinese government has drafted a series of measures to revive flagging exports of autos and auto pans made by domestic companies, The National Development and Rcform Commission, the central economic planning agency, released the policy of ＂Directives on Promoting the Healthy and Sustainable Growth of Domesticallymade Auto Products＂ in Deccmbcr 2009.

Johnson ＆ Johnson （China） Investment Co., Ltd. bought Beijing Dabao Cosmetics Co., Ltd. in early August in a bid to further expand its presence in the Chinese market. The subsidiary of the U.S.-based consumer goods giant Johnson ＆ Johnson acquired Dabao from Beijing Sanlu Factory and Beijing Dabao Co Ltd Staff Shareholding Committee. The dcal is cstimated at more than US$300 million.     

Manufacturing servitisation and duration of exports in China

In recent years, manufacturing servitisation has become a growing characteristic of global firms. Firms develop their service factors, to realise more values and increase their international competitiveness. China, as an important manufacturing centre of the world, has abundant manufacturers seeking for getting more involved in the international market. This paper makes use of detailed customs data and firm‐level data from China, to find how the servitisation in China affects the export durations of Chinese manufacturers. The results demonstrate that manufacturing servitisation input in China contributes to export performance. The service factors have become the important production factors in Chinese manufacturing enterprises. However, China is still at the primary stage of manufacturing servitisation, and Chinese manufacturing enterprises should pay more attention to the whole value chain and seek the transformation from a pure manufacturing enterprise to a service manufacturing enterprise.
