The paper reviews the debate on innovation in services which has flourished over the last 20 years and suggests a research
agenda for the services innovation literature. We discuss whether, and the extent to which, the ill-definition and mis-measurement
of service output have influenced the conceptualization and analysis of innovation in services. We propose a reclassification
of the literature according to whether it has been mainly assimilated or differentiated with respect to the traditional conceptualization
of innovation in the manufacturing sector. We also review the integrative (or synthesizing) contributions, and suggest a taxonomy
for the modes of innovation in services, based on the Lancasterian characteristics-based approach to product definition. We
conclude with a summary of the key arguments and a proposed agenda for the evolutionary theory to integrate the conceptualization
of innovation in services.

This paper addresses questions raised by Storr, Haeffele-Balch and Grube in their book Community Revival in the Wake of Disaster: Lessons in Local Entrepreneurship (2015). I review the reasons why the book is timely, especially the rising number and costs of disasters globally and the shifting norms on the role of government in disaster management. Social capital serves as a critical engine for resilience to crisis, and I move to demonstrate its importance in the mitigation and recovery stages. Then, I raise a research agenda based on their writings, focusing on building quantitative evidence to match the qualitative data already gathered by the authors. Specifically, I focus on testing claims about the definition and density of entrepreneurs, the role of polycentricity, and the public policy pools that would build entrepreneurial talent in vulnerable communities. 相似文献

In this paper, we apply dynamic tracking games to macroeconomic policy making in a monetary union. We use a small stylized nonlinear two-country macroeconomic model of a monetary union for analyzing the interactions between two fiscal (governments: “core” and “periphery”) and one monetary (central bank) policy makers, assuming different objective functions of these decision makers. Using the OPTGAME algorithm, we calculate numerical solutions for cooperative (Pareto optimal) and non-cooperative games (feedback Nash). We show how the policy makers react to adverse demand shocks. We investigate the consequences of three scenarios: decentralized fiscal policies controlled by independent governments (the present situation), centralized fiscal policy (a fiscal union) with an independent central bank (pure fiscal union), and a fully centralized monetary and fiscal union. For the latter two scenarios, we demonstrate the importance of different assumptions about the joint objective function corresponding to different weights for the two governments in the design of the common fiscal policy. We show that a fiscal union with weights corresponding to the number of states in each of the blocs gives better results than non-cooperative policy making. When one bloc dominates the fiscal union, decentralized policies yield lower overall losses than the pure fiscal union and the monetary and fiscal union. 相似文献

Max Weber in 1905 claimed that Protestantism, and more specifically Calvinism, facilitated the rise of capitalism. This paper
assesses the quantitative plausibility of his hypothesis by introducing religious beliefs into a dynamic general equilibrium
model of development and growth. Through counterfactual exercises, the paper investigates whether differences between Catholics
and Protestants most closely identified with the Protestant Work Ethic can account for long delays in the start of Industrialization observed between various countries and regions. The main finding
is that these differences may possibly explain why Northern Europe developed before Southern Europe, but they cannot explain
why Europe developed before Latin America.

In this paper we analyze macroeconomic interactions between trade unions, the central bank and the fiscal policymaker. We explicitly model unions’ concern for public expenditure, paving the way for an analysis of the potential gains from cooperation between the fiscal policymaker and the unions, i.e. the so-called corporatist or social pacts that have characterized economic policies in a number of European countries in the last few decades. We also highlight the profoundly different incentives generated by institutional arrangements such as the Maastricht criteria and the Stability and Growth Pact. Nation-level Ecological Footprint accounts are currently produced for more than 150 nations, with multiple calculations available for some nations. The data sets that result from these national assessments typically serve as the basis for Footprint calculations at smaller scales, including those for regions, cities, businesses, and individuals. Global Footprint Network's National Footprint Accounts, supported and used by more than 70 major organizations worldwide, contain the most widely used national accounting methodology today. The National Footprint Accounts calculations are undergoing continuous improvement as better data becomes available and new methodologies are developed. In this paper, a community of active Ecological Footprint practitioners and users propose key research priorities for improving national Ecological Footprint accounting. For each of the proposed improvements, we briefly review relevant literature, summarize the current state of debate, and suggest approaches for further development. The research agenda will serve as a reference for a large scale, international research program devoted to furthering the development of national Ecological Footprint accounting methodology. 相似文献

Indonesia enacted reforms in taxation in 1983. The new laws replace outdated, complicated and unproductive taxes adopted several decades earlier. A complete overhaul of the tax system was required. Use of higher tax rates or other forms of tinkering with the old system were not options under the circumstances. Reform studies began in early 1981. They were strongly focused on base broadening and drastic simplification. While the original impetus for the reform was not fiscal crisis, the new system will be in place in time to supplant much of a projected decline in oil revenues. Other objectives of the reform were more effective income redistribution, simplification of taxation, a new tax information system and streamlining of tax administration. The Indonesian reform made eclectic use of the lessons from similar fiscal exercises in Asia, Africa and Latin America and of recent innovations in tax analysis elsewhere, but was tailored to national objectives and constraints. Prospects for fruitful implementation of the reform are as yet unknowable: one factor augering for some success is that the tax reform was introduced as one of a series of six major belt-tightening policy measures which gained a measure of public acceptance. None were imposed or required for external assistance. It is unclear which, if any, of the lessons derived from this tax reform are transferable elsewhere. However, among the lessons of possible relevance elsewhere is the importance of identifying at the outset those fiscal problems lying at the intersection of the sets of ‘complex’, ‘difficult’ and ‘politically sensitive’ issues. Of the dozens of issues faced in the process of reform in Indonesia, three such issues in this intersection accounted for more than half the intellectual and other resources expended on the reform. 相似文献

Technological change is usually considered a necessary albeit not sufficient condition for a transition to sustainability. However, the empirical analysis of the determinants to environmental technological change has not received too much attention in the environmental/ecological economics literature and many open questions remain in this context. Based on a careful review of the literature, this paper argues that further analysis should address several issues at different levels: i.e., regarding the conceptual framework, the thematic scope of the studies, some methodological issues and other aspects related to the environmental policy variable. First, an integrated conceptual framework which takes into account the interplay between relevant variables influencing environmental technological change (i.e., factors internal and external to the firm and characteristics of the environmental technologies) and all the stages of this process, with a greater emphasis on the invention stage, should be developed. Other aspects should then be tackled, including a focus on several themes (i.e., a greater attention to cross-sectoral technologies, the barriers to different types of environmental technologies, the international dimension of environmental technological change and environmental technological change in small and medium size enterprises), methodological issues (combination of case studies and econometric modelling) and several issues related to the environmental policy variable. 相似文献

This paper constructs and analyzes a simple macrodynamic model of a small economy that is completely dependent upon OPEC for oil imports. The impact and dynamic behavior of wages, prices, output and exchange rates is analyzed under several alternative scenarios. Initially, it is assumed that oil is denominated in dollars and the consequences of an increase in oil prices are investigated under a system of free floating. The Great Recession seems to be creating a change in the trend of macroeconomic thinking. Prior to the financial crisis of 2008, dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) models dominated the macroeconomics literature without any apparent challengers on the horizon. Since then, however, we have seen an increasing interest in macroeconomic models that address the state of confidence (??animal spirits??), complexity, cognition, and radical uncertainty. Most of the renewed interest in animal spirits, complexity, cognition, and radical uncertainty has come from a more or less ??Keynesian?? perspective. We discuss the potential to emphasize these elements from a more ??Hayekian?? perspective and argue that Austrian approaches to macroeconomics along these lines are more likely to resonate with mainstream economists than in years past. 相似文献
