This article reviews the research findings on managerial third party intervention and the factors that affect role choice.
It explores the implications of research findings and advocates using a political approach to investigate the ways that managers
enter into disputes, both directly and indirectly, and through such roles as conflict orchestrators. It calls for reexamining
the assumptions that underlie this research and for focusing on the process of defining conflicts, uncovering coalitions and

This research focuses on the distinctions between formal and informal third parties articulated by Kolb and Sheppard (1985),
the most important of which is the relationship that exists between the third party and the disputants. Several hypotheses
are advanced regarding the consequences of a sudden change in the relationship on the process and outcomes of the intervention.
An experimental simulation of a supervisor-subordinate discussion (about a dispute among subordinates) is conducted with 62
undergraduate volunteers as participants. The supervisors in the experimental group receive negative affective information
about the subordinate prior to the meeting, which is expected to influence the relationship and hence the intervention. Results
indicate that in the experimental condition performance evaluations were lower, ratings of trust were lower, and the atmosphere
in the discussion was rated as less friendly. Interestingly, in dyads where the negative information was discussed openly
each of the ratings was higher than when the negative information was not discussed, as was the satisfaction reported by each
of the participants. The implications of these findings for future research are discussed. 相似文献

Mediation is a popular form of alternative dispute resolution for settling conflicts occurring in employment settings. Such workplace conflicts handled by mediation, for example, include discrimination, wrongful termination, as well as various labor-management issues. Defined as a structured process where a neutral third party assists the two conflicting parties in arriving at a voluntary resolution, individuals have undergone mediation training in order to become mediators. While research exists on how mediation-training programs should be structured, the purpose of this research is to determine the key attributes required to develop good mediators and whether such characteristics can be acquired through mediation-training program participation. Utilizing an autoethnographic methodology as a mediation training program participant, it was discovered that effective mediators demonstrate strong communication skills, flexibility, neutrality, composure and ethicality during the mediation process which can be attained through participation in mediation-training programs. 相似文献

当前国际市场第三方物流(3PL)有很高的竞争力。大多数的第三方物流供应商提供一些基本服务,如运输与仓储服务,但很少提供增值服务。研究课题的主要目标是将第三方采购(3PP)作为其第三方供应商的增值服务。3PL提供商应当增加其增值服务,是为了保持其核心的竞争优势。而同时3PP是一种可行的选择。许多我国当地的第三方物流供应商并没有意识到他们的增值服务,因为他们主要只提供基本的服务(运输和仓储)。另外,从买方的角度来看,中小型企业缺乏足够大的购买力,比如数量,所以他们的采购价格相对而言比大企业要高出很多。这个研究提出第三方采购作为其增值服务,一方面能够增加第三方供应商的核心竞争力,另一方面使得我国的中小型企业也能获得更多的利润。 相似文献

A disparity appears to exist between how managers are advised to handle conflict and the intervention methods that they utilize
in actual practice. Normative advice tends to agree that managers should adopt a facilitative, mediatorlike role (e.g., Walton,
1987; Tjosvold, 1990), while the empirical research suggests that managers are much more controlling, often deciding how to
resolve the problem on their own (e.g., Kolb, 1986; Sheppard, 1983). The present study focuses on two potential reasons as
to why managers utilize the methods they do: (1) They treat choices instrumentally to achieve key goals and (2) they interpret
or frame conflicts in a form that suggests directive action. One hundred and eighty managers were interviewed about a recent
effort to intervene in a dispute at work. The results confirm that managers are very controlling when intervening in disputes
and relates this to both interpretive frame and, to a lesser extent, managerial goals. A canonical analysis appears to emphasize
the pivotal role that frame plays in influencing whether or not managers choose the solution. Implications of these results
