2006 is the fifth anniversary of China’s WTO Accession．As we have seen,China's for- eign trade has witnessed rapid development．We now have to be aware of some potential difficul- ties:trade surplus has increased greatly,the ex- change reserve has increased steeply,which has imposed great pressure on China's foreign trade polices and exchange policies;the unbalanced internationaltrade will continue;the RMB also faces appreciation;etc．Therefore,what foreign trade developments will occur in 20077? Will the situation improve? With these questions, China's Foreign Trade interviewed Prof．Li Jian, Senior Researcher,Department of China's For- eign Trade,Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation,Ministry of Commerce．     

The Olympics' Impacts on China's Foreign Trade

The Beijing Olympics will have a lasting effect on China, especially on its politics and diplomacy, but the Olympics will only have limited and indirect influence on its foreign trade in my view. The rapid increase of China's foreign trade has remained a strong trend and could not be easily changed or accelerated by other factors including the Olympics. Meanwhile, China doesn't expect the Olympics to be a propeller for its foreign trade. With the fast development of past years.China has become one of the most important global trading nations that can be easily told from the perspective of its share of international trade flows.     

Internationalizing China's Foreign Trade System

Since 1978, a series of reforms have been conducted in China's foreign trade system to meet the needs of opening to the outside world and China's return to membership of Gatt. After 15 years of reform, China's foreign trade system has changed a lot in the following aspects.     

RMB Appreciation in 2008

At the beginning of 2007, both foreign investment banks and domestic commercial banks all thought that last year's RMB appreciation would grow between 4 to 5 percent; however the realization of a 6.77 percent increase has surprised everyone. The RMB has appreciated much faster than expected, keeping pace with the rise of China's foreign trade surplus and foreign exchange reserves. China's foreign trade surplus totaled US$ 177.5 billion in 2006,and this year's surplus already reached US$ 238 billion during the first 11 months of 2007,far exceeding the total from the previous year.……     

International Hot Money Probably Flows in Batch into China with Great Anticipation of Appreciation of RMB

According to the data newly issued by China's Central Bank, deposit balance including foreign exchange in internal financial institutions has reached US$ 162.8 billion, increasing by 10.9% over the last year by the end of March of 2005. In the first quarter of this year, deposit of foreign exchange has increased by US$8 billion, growing by US$10.4 billion over the last year. Loan balance of foreign exchange of financial institutions has amounted to US$146.9 billion, increasing by 13.3% over the last year.Loan of foreign exchange in the first quarter has increased by US$ 10.8 billion, growing by US$1.4 billion over the last year.     

Chat on China's Foreign Trade Laws

In the past four decades since the founding of New China, China's foreign trade has witnessed significant achievements. But effective law covering foreign trade has not been enacted for various reasons. As China's foreign trade reform deepens and trade develops further, it is imperative to update the law to conform with China's return to signatory membership of Gatt.     

China to Be Ranked 3rd in Global Trade

According to the report on China's foreign trade released by Ministry of Commerce on November 12 that the total volume of China's imports and exports this year will reach around US$1.1 trillion, up 30% for the first time. Strong Momentum for China's Foreign Trade
