<正>进入21世纪以来,我国越来越多的企业管理者感到竞争环境越来越复杂,竞争的对抗性越来越强,“封杀”之举更是日益频繁。我国许多企业在过去几年中采用了一种以高负债形成高投入,以高投入带动高增长的增长战略, 而且这些企业的增长又都是以不相关多样化战略实现的。这样,我国的许多行业都出现了一种低水平的供过于求和严重的过度竞争,这种现象在家电、食品、饮料等行业表现最为典型。在行业结构普遍恶化的情况下,许多企业为了平衡经营风险,也只好跟着进行更大程度的不相关多样化,从而形成了一个恶性的循环。目前,我国的大多数行业由于进入过多而出现恶性竞争,爆发了许多的“行业大战”,“封杀”之声不觉于耳。

在今年刚刚结束的"3·15"消费者权益晚会上,尽管家电、通信成为行业投诉新热点,但是,细心的人仍然可以发现,中国消费者协会公布的数据中,2008年消费者对商品的投诉依旧主要集中在房屋装修建材、食品和汽车三大领域.与房屋相关的一系列质量问题关系着百姓的居住安全和生活安宁,永远是与消费者关系最为紧密的一个问题.只有当这些投诉不再出现在"3·15"的榜单上时,我们的生活才会更加安定与安心.……

Common factors can always be found but can they also be rejected?

Factor models are often used to reduce the complexity of data. It is simple to find common factors and to interpret them. However, it is doubtful whether factor models are always appropriate. Especially when the common factor is considered to be an attitude, it must be stable through time and explain a considerable part of the variances. A procedure is suggested to test the usefulness of a common factor. In an experimental pilot study in which an attitude towards immigrant workers was investigated, the instability and superfluousness of a common factor is shown. An alternative model is presented which suggests that changing opinions can be explained by specific variables. Finally it is shown that a more stable common factor is found if a so-called MIMIC-design is used.

Exchange Controls Cannot be Enforced

Controls of the export of capital are condemned as depriving British industry of the sinews of expansion and denying the economy of opportunities to 'create jobs'. Kate Phylaktis, of the Cit/University Business School, maintains that exchange controls are difficult to enforce, and the difficulties increase the longer controls remain. Whether the restrictions exist or not, exchange rates adjust themselves to the differences in the rates of national inflation.     

Will the Euro be Stable?

In this article Francis Breedon and Michael Chui look at the impact of EMU on exchange rate volatility. Although theoretical evidence is mixed, their empirical evidence suggests that $/Euro volatility will be significantly higher on average than $/DM volatility has been historically, largely because the ECB will put less weight on the exchange rate in their policy deliberations than the Bundesbank has done. This result suggests that EMU-outs such as the UK may have to cope with potentially larger exchange rates swings until they make a more formal commitment to EMU.     

Can Emotional Intelligence be developed?

This paper explores approaches to the development of Emotional Intelligence (EI) and to the critical question ‘can EI be developed?’ Technical data on the instruments used to measure EI, the Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (EIQ) devised by Dulewicz and Higgs (2000c) and the EQ-i designed by Bar-On (1997), are reported. Findings from three studies involving managers, team leaders and the skippers and crews from a round-the-world yacht race are presented to explore whether Emotional Intelligence scores change after training and other experiences. A revised model to explain how the elements of Emotional Intelligence are related to each other is presented and tested, and possible explanations of why some elements are more amenable to development actions are proposed.
