This study extends the analysis of hotel occupancy in Yorkshire and Humberside, UK, hotels reported in the March 1985 issue of this journal, and confirms the ‘stability’ of the three previously identified dimensions of occupancy performance which reflect differences in overall occupancy levels, intensity of seasonal fluctuations, and length of season. The focus shifts to the identification and interpretation of longer term trends in occupancy performance. The results of a questionnaire survey of hotels are used in a stepwise regression model to relate occupancy trends to a range of ‘predictor’ variables measuring different aspects of the hotels and their management. 相似文献

This article is concerned with the identification and interpretation of spatial-temporal patterns of demand for hotel accomodation. Time-series factor analysis is applied to a set of monthly hotel-occupancy series recorded by the Yorkshire and Humberside Tourist Board (YHTB) for 101 hotels in Yorkshire and Humberside, UK, from April 1982 to March 1983. Three major temporal components of expressed demand for hotel accomodation (reference curves) are identified, reflecting differences in occupancy level, the intensity of seasonal fluctuations, and the length of season. The hotels are differentiated, and then grouped, on the basis of their individual parameters on the three reference curves. The spatial-temporal patterns identified form the basis of continuing research which aims to aid the formulation of appropriate marketing and development policies for the hotel industry. 相似文献

As tourism took off in Macau, more luxury hotels were constructed to satisfy demand, many of them located in leisure resort complexes. This study uses the case of luxury hotels in Macau to examine the importance of specific characteristics in leisure resorts using a 3-dimensional importance-performance analysis (3-D IPA) approach that integrates the IPA approach with the three-factor theory. A new service quality measurement scale was developed and a total of 299 visitors staying overnight in the luxury hotels in Macau were surveyed. The results reveal the types (basic, excitement, and performance) of 45 service attributes in the 3-D IPA cube for stand-alone and resort-based luxury hotels. This study indicates a variation of types of three factors for service attributes may occur in different market segments. This study contributes a new service measurement scale for luxury hotels and 3-D IPA approach for researchers to conduct future studies. 相似文献

In recent years, what has become known as collaborative consumption has undergone rapid expansion through peer-to-peer (P2P) platforms. In the field of tourism, a particularly notable example is that of Airbnb. This article analyses the spatial patterns of Airbnb in Barcelona and compares them with hotels and sightseeing spots. New sources of data, such as Airbnb listings and geolocated photographs are used. Analysis of bivariate spatial autocorrelation reveals a close spatial relationship between Airbnb and hotels, with a marked centre-periphery pattern, although Airbnb predominates around the city's main hotel axis and hotels predominate in some peripheral areas of the city. Another interesting finding is that Airbnb capitalises more on the advantages of proximity to the city's main tourist attractions than does the hotel sector. Multiple regression analysis shows that the factors explaining location are also different for hotels and Airbnb. Finally, it was possible to detect those parts of the city that have seen the greatest increase in pressure from tourism related to Airbnb's recent expansion. 相似文献

Previous research has suggested the existence of both observed and unobserved heterogeneity in time allocation modelling. Surprisingly few empirical studies have addressed this issue in leisure research. The objective of this paper is, therefore, to identify and describe the time use patterns of people at weekends. The sample consisted of 2118 individuals/diaries from the Time Use Survey collected by the Spanish National Statistics Institute from 1 October 2009 to 30 September 2010. The results obtained reveal the existence of nine clusters (people who pursue domestic activities, sleepyheads and couch potatoes, weekend workers, book and radio/music lovers during leisure time, DIY handy-people, art lovers with quite a lot of leisure time, people committed to caring for relatives, eclectics, and people who mix leisure time and studies). These groups are different, not only as regards their propensity to engage in each activity and the average time allocated to this (what), but also as regards their socio-demographic profiles (who) and the activity rhythms (when). This study may have implications for policy-makers and leisure businesses in Spain at a time when there is considerable amount of debate regarding the need to rationalise schedules and standardise them with those of other European Union countries. 相似文献
