The t regression models provide a useful extension of the normal regression models for datasets involving errors with longer-than-normal tails. Homogeneity of variances (if they exist) is a standard assumption in t regression models. However, this assumption is not necessarily appropriate. This paper is devoted to tests for heteroscedasticity in general t linear regression models. The asymptotic properties, including asymptotic Chi-square and approximate powers under local alternatives of the score tests, are studied. Based on the modified profile likelihood (Cox and Reid in J R Stat Soc Ser B 49(1):1–39, 1987), an adjusted score test for heteroscedasticity is developed. The properties of the score test and its adjustment are investigated through Monte Carlo simulations. The test methods are illustrated with land rent data (Weisberg in Applied linear regression. I consider a semiparametric version of the nonseparable triangular model of Chesher [Chesher, A., 2003. Identification in nonseparable models. Econometrica 71, 1405–1441]. The proposed model is linear in coefficients, where the coefficients are unknown functions of unobserved latent variables. Using a control variable idea and quantile regression methods, I propose a simple two-step estimator for the coefficients evaluated at particular values of the latent variables. Under the condition that the instruments are locally relevant (i.e. they affect a particular conditional quantile of interest of the endogenous variable) I establish consistency and asymptotic normality. Simulation experiments confirm the theoretical results.  相似文献

The main goal of both Bayesian model selection and classical hypotheses testing is to make inferences with respect to the state of affairs in a population of interest. The main differences between both approaches are the explicit use of prior information by Bayesians, and the explicit use of null distributions by the classicists. Formalization of prior information in prior distributions is often difficult. In this paper two practical approaches (encompassing priors and training data) to specify prior distributions will be presented. The computation of null distributions is relatively easy. However, as will be illustrated, a straightforward interpretation of the resulting p-values is not always easy. Bayesian model selection can be used to compute posterior probabilities for each of a number of competing models. This provides an alternative for the currently prevalent testing of hypotheses using p-values. Both approaches will be compared and illustrated using case studies. Each case study fits in the framework of the normal linear model, that is, analysis of variance and multiple regression.  相似文献

By combining the Moriguti and Steffensen inequalities, we obtain sharp upper bounds for the expectations of arbitrary linear combinations of order statistics from iid samples. The bounds are expressed in terms of expectations of the left truncated parent distribution and constants that depend only on the coefficients of the linear combination. We also present analogous results for dependent id samples. The bounds are especially useful for L-estimates of the scale parameter of the distribution.  相似文献

Often in the robust analysis of regression and time series models there is a need for having a robust scale estimator of a scale parameter of the errors. One often used scale estimator is the median of the absolute residuals s 1. It is of interest to know its limiting distribution and the consistency rate. Its limiting distribution generally depends on the estimator of the regression and/or autoregressive parameter vector unless the errors are symmetrically distributed around zero. To overcome this difficulty it is then natural to use the median of the absolute differences of pairwise residuals, s 2, as a scale estimator. This paper derives the asymptotic distributions of these two estimators for a large class of nonlinear regression and autoregressive models when the errors are independent and identically distributed. It is found that the asymptotic distribution of a suitably standardizes s 2 is free of the initial estimator of the regression/autoregressive parameters. A similar conclusion also holds for s 1 in linear regression models through the origin and with centered designs, and in linear autoregressive models with zero mean errors.  This paper also investigates the limiting distributions of these estimators in nonlinear regression models with long memory moving average errors. An interesting finding is that if the errors are symmetric around zero, then not only is the limiting distribution of a suitably standardized s 1 free of the regression estimator, but it is degenerate at zero. On the other hand a similarly standardized s 2 converges in distribution to a normal distribution, regardless of the errors being symmetric or not. One clear conclusion is that under the symmetry of the long memory moving average errors, the rate of consistency for s 1 is faster than that of s 2.  相似文献

In the paper, we solve the n-point optimal prediction design problem for the simplest nontrivial finite discrete spectrum linear regression models with correlated observations. We show that for all the models in consideration, there exists an optimal prediction design supported on at most three distinct points, which can be computed using one-dimensional optimization. In some cases, an optimal prediction design can be found explicitly.  相似文献

We consider estimation of nonparametric structural models under a functional coefficient representation for the regression function. Under this representation, models are linear in the endogenous components with coefficients given by unknown functions of the predetermined variables, a nonparametric generalization of random coefficient models. The functional coefficient restriction is an intermediate approach between fully nonparametric structural models that are ill posed when endogenous variables are continuously distributed, and partially linear models over which they have appreciable flexibility. We propose two-step estimators that use local linear approximations in both steps. The first step is to estimate a vector of reduced forms of regression models and the second step is local linear regression using the estimated reduced forms as regressors. Our large sample results include consistency and asymptotic normality of the proposed estimators. The high practical power of estimators is illustrated via both a Monte Carlo simulation study and an application to returns to education.  相似文献

In this paper a necessary and sufficient condition is derived for the mean square error matrix to be overestimated on average by the covariance matrix of the OLS estimator when the linear model is misspecified by omitting at least one independent variable. A sufficient condition for this is also considered and the situation is illustrated by simple examples showing, as previously noted by Gupta and Maasoumi (1979), that underestimation is the prevailing case in practice.  相似文献

A Bayesian testing problem for a simple hypothesis against a simple alternative is considered. However the observations on which the test is based are not immediately available, but occur atn i.i.d. random times. Assuming linear cost of time until a decision the task is to construct and to characterize an optimal stopping strategy for a time-sequential testing problem and to compute the Bayes risk. Bayes factors that do not require prior distributions are proposed for testing one parametric model versus another. These Bayes factors are relatively simple to compute, relying only on maximum likelihood estimates, and are Bayes consistent at an exponential rate for nested models even when the smaller model is true. These desirable properties derive from the use of data splitting. Large sample properties, including consistency, of the Bayes factors are derived, and a simulation study explores practical concerns. The methodology is illustrated with civil engineering data involving compressive strength of concrete.  相似文献

Subsampling and the m out of n bootstrap have been suggested in the literature as methods for carrying out inference based on post-model selection estimators and shrinkage estimators. In this paper we consider a subsampling confidence interval (CI) that is based on an estimator that can be viewed either as a post-model selection estimator that employs a consistent model selection procedure or as a super-efficient estimator. We show that the subsampling CI (of nominal level 1−α for any α(0,1)) has asymptotic confidence size (defined to be the limit of finite-sample size) equal to zero in a very simple regular model. The same result holds for the m out of n bootstrap provided m2/n→0 and the observations are i.i.d. Similar zero-asymptotic-confidence-size results hold in more complicated models that are covered by the general results given in the paper and for super-efficient and shrinkage estimators that are not post-model selection estimators. Based on these results, subsampling and the m out of n bootstrap are not recommended for obtaining inference based on post-consistent model selection or shrinkage estimators.  相似文献

A two-dimensional extension of peccati’s decomposition theorem
Summary This paper keeps as starting poing the Peccati’s decomposition of the d.c.f. of an enterpreneural project seen as a present value of single-period results, recently given by the author in an unidimensional framework. The goal of the paper is twofold: the first is to provide a bidimensional extension of the decomposition in order to keep account of mixed projects, that is projects that according to any internal couple (i*, j*) reveal alternance of investment and respectively collection periods. A straightforward extension is given on the basis of a simple analogic argument. But a more careful evaluation of the problem suggests that if we require that the decomposition be meaningful from a financial point of view. things are no more simple either in one or in two dimensions. To solve the problem we introduce a proper synchrony condition: precisely, the pair of couples (i, j) and (i*, j*) are said to satisfy the synchrony condition if and only if the sequences of the signs of the partial balancesM t (i, j) andM t (i*, j*) are the same. After that we are able to show that, with reference to a couple (i, j) of external rates, a bidimensional decomposition centered on an internal couple (i*, j*) is meaningful if and only if the pair (i, j) and (i*, j*) satisfy the synchrony condition. Formally, the result comes as a nice byproduct of a rule on the factorization of particular bivariate polynomials recently given by Stucchi. In particular going back to a one-dimensional world, it turns out that for pure investment (Soper) projects the synchrony condition works as a condition of applicability of the Peccati’s decomposition.

Presence of excess zero in ordinal data is pervasive in areas like medical and social sciences. Unfortunately, analysis of such kind of data has so far hardly been looked into, perhaps for the reason that the underlying model that fits such data, is not a generalized linear model. Obviously some methodological developments and intensive computations are required. The current investigation is concerned with the selection of variables in such models. In many occasions where the number of predictors is quite large and some of them are not useful, the maximum likelihood approach is not the automatic choice. As, apart from the messy calculations involved, this approach fails to provide efficient estimates of the underlying parameters. The proposed penalized approach includes ?1 penalty (LASSO) and the mixture of ?1 and ?2 penalties (elastic net). We propose a coordinate descent algorithm to fit a wide class of ordinal regression models and select useful variables appearing in both the ordinal regression and the logistic regression based mixing component. A rigorous discussion on the selection of predictors has been made through a simulation study. The proposed method is illustrated by analyzing the severity of driver injury from Michigan upper peninsula road accidents.  相似文献

This paper investigates the robustness of variance-balanced row-column designs for complete diallel cross experiments for estimating the comparisons among the general combining ability parameters against the loss of observations. A necessary and sufficient condition of robustness as per connectedness criterion is obtained. The robustness of optimal row-column designs of Gupta and Choi (1998) has been investigated for the loss of any m(≥1) observations in a column and for the loss of any two observations in the design. The study of robustness has also been conducted as per A-efficiency criterion.  相似文献

By combining two alternative formulations of a test statistic with two alternative resampling schemes we obtain four different bootstrap tests. In the context of static linear regression models two of these are shown to have serious size and power problems, whereas the remaining two are adequate and in fact equivalent. The equivalence between the two valid implementations is shown to break down in dynamic regression models. Then, the procedure based on the test statistic approach performs best, at least in the AR(1)-model. Similar finite-sample phenomena are illustrated in the ARMA(1,1)-model through a small-scale Monte Carlo study and an empirical example.  相似文献

In the context of resource allocation on the basis of priorities, Ergin (2002) identifies a necessary and sufficient condition on the priority structure such that the student-optimal stable mechanism satisfies a consistency principle. Ergin (2002) formulates consistency as a local property based on a fixed population of agents and fixed resources—we refer to this condition as local consistency and to his condition on the priority structure as local acyclicity.
