The Effect of Follow-up Mailings on The Response Rate and Response Quality in Mail Surveys

Numerous experts have demonstrated that the increase in the number of contacts produces a “lengthening” of the field work, although this lag in the analysis of the data is “compensated” by the increase in the response rate that is achieved through this second, third, and successive “contacts”. However, can it be said that these interviewees respond with the same dedication as those who responded from the initial contact? Or could it be that they will try to respond “hastily” so as not to be “harassed” further? The aim of this study is to try to find some answers to these questions by giving the results of the first ever research carried out in Spain using the TDM of Dillman in mail surveys.

Abstract.  This paper surveys available empirical evidence on labour market effects of immigration. Many different approaches have been used already to try to find out whether immigration hurts the labour market opportunities of natives. No doubt new approaches will follow in the future as globalization will keep the migration issue on the agenda. This literature review discusses the different approaches concentrating on both the methodology and the results. At the end, it tries to summarize available evidence.

基于层次分析法的排土场稳定性分析

影响排土场稳定性的因素众多,主要分为内因和外因两大类,控制内因参数是在排土场使用过程中保持排土场稳定性的主要措施。因此,在众多内在影响因素中找出主要因素,并对其加以控制,对于保持排土场稳定性有重要意义。本文以云南某露天金属矿排土场为工程实例,运用层次分析法分析影响排土场稳定性的内因各指标的影响权重,确定主要影响因素,并运用FLAC3D数值模拟对层次分析法的分析结果进行验证,确定了控制排土场堆高是保证排土场稳定性的有效措施。     

酒店企业安全影响因素分析及对策

安全是酒店得以生存和发展的首要因素之一。对于酒店来说,没有安全就没有一切。从酒店运营的环境来看,存在着诸多影响安全运营的危险源。当前,虽说绝大部分酒店管理者都认识到安全工作的重要性,但在日常工作中却缺乏系统的安全知识和应对手段,造成酒店安全事故时有发生。因此,酒店业的管理者要树立科学的安全观念,应用系统工程理论查找酒店存在安全隐患的部位、分析隐患形成的原因,通过建立酒店职业安全管理体系,对酒店存在的安全隐患进行预防和控制,实现酒店安全运营。     

European Pension Funds and Sustainable Development: Trade‐Offs between Finance and Responsibility

Pension funds try to account for sustainable development in their operations. This mainly translates in responsible investing. We investigate how this interacts with the financial objectives. We use a survey of more than 250 pension funds based in 15 European countries. Multinomial logistic regression is used to find out how pension funds trade off sustainable development and financial objectives. Our findings suggest that pension funds that have not included responsibility in their strategy and investments have a clear priority regarding their financial performance. Pension funds who integrate sustainable development in their strategy can bring balance between finance and responsibility. Copyright © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd and ERP Environment     

On Successful Research

This paper discusses what I believe a researcher ought to keep in mind when he/she tries to find a research topic and assesses the probability of success. In this context I think of success as a paper that becomes known over time and, generally, extensively cited. My discussion will lay out some useful ‘pointers’. I will also try to provide something resembling a ‘proof in the pudding’ by listing a number of specific research topics, each of which can be spelled out in a few sentences. My aim is to persuade the reader that research topics can rely on straightforward ideas as opposed to a specific set of antecedent papers. In this respect, I argue that the best research questions derive from an acute sense of how the world works as opposed to more or less stylized ‘theories’ originating in academia.

利率在控制房地产投资规模中的作用

根据宏观经济学中最基本IS-LM模型建立了房地产市场的均衡产出和投资模型,并找出利率影响货币政策和均衡投资额的关键因子.在此基础上结合模型中的关键影响因子综合分析造成我国近年来利率对于房地产投资规模调控不力局面的原因.最后结合美国的相关经验,提出对我国改进利率调控机制的建议.     

Scoring rules over subsets of alternatives: Consistency and paradoxes

We know since the works of Gehrlein and Fishburn (1980, 1981), Fishburn (1981) and Saari (1987, 1988, 1990) that, the collective rankings of scoring rules are not stable when some alternatives are dropped from the set of alternatives. However, in the literature, attention has been mainly devoted to the relationship between pairwise majority vote and scoring rules rankings. In this paper, we focus on the relationships between four-candidate and three-candidate rankings. More precisely, given a collective ranking over a set of four candidates, we determine under the impartial culture condition, the probability of each of the six possible rankings to occur when one candidate is dropped. As a consequence, we derive from our computations, the likelihood of two paradoxes of committee elections, the Leaving Member Paradox (Staring, 1986) and the Prior Successor Paradox which occur when an elected candidate steps down from a two-member committee.     

农村信贷的思考——联保贷款的缺陷与创新

农户联保贷款是近年来农村信用社摸索并正大力支持的一种新型的支农贷款方式。它的推行在一定程度上缓解了农民贷款难的问题,对农村经济结构的战略调整和经济金融的发展发挥了积极的作用。但在具体的实践过程中,其“实施难”的问题日益显现,其自身存在的缺陷也不断显露。为此,本文分析了制约农户联保贷款实施的因素以外,从农户、信用社自身等角度提出了对策建议,并提出了交叉联保的创新机制;同时,对新机制实施的必要性、可行性和实施过程中应注意的问题作了进一步研究。
