Transit-oriented development is being actively promoted as an urban design model for areas around transit stations. In addition, planning for accessibility is being promoted, which requires integrating land use with transportation planning, and to match the transportation features with the intensity and diversity of land use of the station areas. Nevertheless, and despite the evident similarities between the two approaches, an integrated evaluation tool of a station area in terms of its transportation, land use, and urban design features is missing. In this paper, we bring into the literature on integration of land use and transport a key feature of the transit-oriented development literature: the urban design features of the station areas, in particular their pedestrian friendliness. By complementing the node-place model with an evaluation of the pedestrian connectivity of station areas of Lisbon, we combine these two perspectives in order to evaluate and classify station areas in three different aspects: land use, transportation, and walkability conditions. Our results show that a balanced node-place is not necessarily a transit-oriented development, and vice versa, and so a complementary analysis of both is useful to identify and classify a station area. Therefore, we suggest a typology of station areas based on the three components, which might be used as a planning tool for the development of the station areas into balanced transit-oriented development areas. 相似文献

This paper examines how artisans experience economic and cultural changes through art sales to tourists in San Juan la Laguna, Guatemala; the aim is to analyse experiences from hosts and producers in art tourism. Using a life course approach, the artists in this area expressed how they do not copy the art of their ancestors, but draw on their past to create new art that reflects their experiences, and sell it to tourists at a price they set. Painting on canvas and murals is a way to overcome historical discrimination based on their cultural identity while they explore and communicate their new identities to themselves and outsiders. Therefore the encounter at the art market strengthens both their economic identities and cultural identities. This is contradiction because the two goals are not necessarily complementary. I argue that the painters in San Juan illustrate the art of development because the painters artfully use their new economic and cultural identities to craft a space to negotiate the terms of the encounter with globalization to struggle for a better life. 相似文献

The geography of the Spanish airport system: spatial concentration and deconcentration patterns in seat capacity distribution, 2001-2008 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
This paper analyzes the geography of seat capacity at Spanish airports between 2001 and 2008. Concentration and deconcentration patterns for different markets have been identified. For this purpose, we use the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI), the Concentration Ratio (CR) and the Lorenz curve. From our analysis, we conclude that seat capacity follows a deconcentration pattern due to the growth of low-cost carriers at small- and medium-sized Spanish airports. This is in line with earlier studies for Europe as a whole. Intercontinental seat capacity still remains very much concentrated in Madrid and, to a lesser extent, in Barcelona. However, new strategies by long-haul airlines bypassing the primary European hubs foster the deconcentration of seat capacity in the Asian and North American markets. In the case of Spain, the recent liberalization of the EU-US market may become an important enabler of such network strategies, e.g., Delta has operated a route from Valencia to New York-JFK since 2009. In other intercontinental markets, capacity is more and more concentrated in Madrid. We highlight the restructuring of Iberia’s network as an important factor behind the increasing dominance of Madrid in intercontinental markets. 相似文献
