In this paper we consider a class of partially adaptive one-step M-estimators for the non-linear regression model with dependent observations. Those estimators adapt themselves with respect to a measure of the tailthickness of the disturbance distribution (as well as to a measure of the scale). The large-sample behavior of those estimators is examined theoretically for general disturbance distributions and numerically for various specific ones. The estimators considered are motivated by the Student-t maximum-likelihood estimator. Given appropriate specifications of the adaptation parameter the estimators are asymptotically efficient on the family of Student-t distributions including the normal distribution.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a new class of asymptotically efficient estimators for moment condition models. These estimators share the same higher order bias properties as the generalized empirical likelihood estimators and once bias corrected, have the same higher order efficiency properties as the bias corrected generalized empirical likelihood estimators. Unlike the generalized empirical likelihood estimators, our new estimators are much easier to compute. A simulation study finds that our estimators have better finite sample performance than the two-step GMM, and compare well to several potential alternatives in terms of both computational stability and overall performance.  相似文献

有效价差是刻画金融资产交易成本的一种重要度量。本文基于Roll的价格模型,利用对数价格极差分布的近似正态特征,提出了一种有效价差的近似极大似然估计,并通过数值模拟比较了这一新的估计与以往文献中提出的Roll的协方差估计、贝叶斯估计以及High-Low估计在各种不同状况下的精度。模拟的结果表明,无论是在连续交易的理想状态还是交易不连续且价格不能被完全观测到的非理想状态下,极大似然估计和High-Low估计的精度均高于协方差和贝叶斯估计;当波动率相对较小的时候,极大似然估计的精度优于High-Low估计;另外,在非理想情形下,极大似然估计要比High-Low估计更加稳健。  相似文献

Most stochastic frontier models have focused on estimating average productive efficiency across all firms. The failure to estimate firm-specific effiicency has been regarded as a major limitation of previous stochastic frontier models. In this paper, we measure firm-level efficiency using panel data, and examine its finite sample distribution over a wide range of the parameter and model space. We also investigate the performance of the stochastic frontier approach using three estimators: maximum likelihood, generalized least squares and dummy variables (or the within estimator). Our results indicate that the performance of the stochastic frontier approach is sensitive to the form of the underlying technology and its complexity. The results appear to be quite stable across estimators. The within estimatoris preferred, however, because of weak assumptions and relative computational ease.The refereeing process of this paper was handled through J. van den Broeck.  相似文献

Negative binomial estimators are commonly used in estimating models with count‐data dependent variables. In this paper, sampling experiments are used to evaluate the performance of these estimators relative to the simpler Poisson estimator in finite‐sample situations. The results do not suggest a clear preference for negative binomial estimators in situations in which the underlying dependent variables are overdispersed, unless the researcher is comfortable in assumptions about the precise form of the overdispersion.  相似文献

We consider improved estimation strategies for the parameter matrix in multivariate multiple regression under a general and natural linear constraint. In the context of two competing models where one model includes all predictors and the other restricts variable coefficients to a candidate linear subspace based on prior information, there is a need of combining two estimation techniques in an optimal way. In this scenario, we suggest some shrinkage estimators for the targeted parameter matrix. Also, we examine the relative performances of the suggested estimators in the direction of the subspace and candidate subspace restricted type estimators. We develop a large sample theory for the estimators including derivation of asymptotic bias and asymptotic distributional risk of the suggested estimators. Furthermore, we conduct Monte Carlo simulation studies to appraise the relative performance of the suggested estimators with the classical estimators. The methods are also applied on a real data set for illustrative purposes.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose two moment-type estimation methods for the parameters of the generalized bivariate Birnbaum–Saunders distribution by taking advantage of some properties of the distribution. The proposed moment-type estimators are easy to compute and always exist uniquely. We derive the asymptotic distributions of these estimators and carry out a simulation study to evaluate the performance of all these estimators. The probability coverages of confidence intervals are also discussed. Finally, two examples are used to illustrate the proposed methods.  相似文献

Using computer simulations, the finite sample performance of a number of classical and Bayesian wavelet shrinkage estimators for Poisson counts is examined. For the purpose of comparison, a variety of intensity functions, background intensity levels, sample sizes, primary resolution levels, wavelet filters and performance criteria are employed. A demonstration is given of the use of some of the estimators to analyse a data set arising in high-energy astrophysics. Following the philosophy of reproducible research, the M atlab programs and real-life data example used in this study are made freely available.  相似文献

In this paper we propose estimators for the regression coefficients in censored duration models which are distribution free, impose no parametric specification on the baseline hazard function, and can accommodate general forms of censoring. The estimators are shown to have desirable asymptotic properties and Monte Carlo simulations demonstrate good finite sample performance. Among the data features the new estimators can accommodate are covariate-dependent censoring, double censoring, and fixed (individual or group specific) effects. We also examine the behavior of the estimator in an empirical illustration.  相似文献

The paper reports simulation and empirical evidence on the finite-sample performance of adaptive estimators in cointegrated systems. Adaptive estimators are asymptotically efficient, even when the shape of the likelihood function is unknown. We consider two representations of cointegrated systems—triangular cointegrating regressions and error correction models. The motivation for and advantages of adaptive estimators in such systems are discussed and their construction is described. We report results from the estimation of a forward exchange market unbiasedness regression using the adaptive and competing estimators, and provide related Monte Carlo simulation evidence on the performance of the estimators. In a paper by S rivenkataramana T racy [4], four methods of estimating a population total Y with the use of an auxiliary variable were introduced, given a random sample without replacement from that population. These methods were "built around the idea that estimating the population total is essentially equivalent to estimating the total corresponding to the non-sample units, since that corresponding to the sample units is known once the sample is drawn and measurements are made on it."
However, in the case of small sampling fractions the nonsample units constitute most of the population and no great improvement over the traditional estimators is to be expected. Therefore the methods are compared with the existing estimators and it turns out that they are special cases of the "mixing estimators", introduced in this paper. The latter estimators can be made asymptotically equivalent to the regression estimator and are therefore asymptotically superior to all other estimators. An exact comparison is carried out on the artificial example given in [4]. The statement in this paper that "the proposed estimators are to be preferred to the regression estimator for., superiority of performance in the case of small samples" is evidently misleading. Finally a comparison is made with other "mixing-type" estimators, that can prove very useful in practice.  相似文献

A large number of proposals for estimating the bivariate survival function under random censoring have been made. In this paper we discuss the most prominent estimators, where prominent is meant in the sense that they are best for practical use; Dabrowska's estimator, the Prentice–Cai estimator, Pruitt's modified EM-estimator, and the reduced data NPMLE of van der Laan. We show how these estimators are computed and present their intuitive background. The asymptotic results are summarized. Furthermore, we give a summary of the practical performance of the estimators under different levels of dependence and censoring based on extensive simulation results. This paper considers the specification and estimation of social interaction models with network structures and the presence of endogenous, contextual, correlated, and group fixed effects. When the network structure in a group is captured by a graph in which the degrees of nodes are not all equal, the different positions of group members as measured by the Bonacich (1987) centrality provide additional information for identification and estimation. In this case, the Bonacich centrality measure for each group can be used as an instrument for the endogenous social effect, but the number of such instruments grows with the number of groups. We consider the 2SLS and GMM estimation for the model. The proposed estimators are asymptotically efficient, respectively, within the class of IV estimators and the class of GMM estimators based on linear and quadratic moments, when the sample size grows fast enough relative to the number of instruments.  相似文献

The problems of estimating population total in multi-charter surveys are considered in a unified set up. Alternative estimators for Rao-Hartley-Cochran (1962), Midzuno-Sen (1952,53) and other varying probability sampling schemes are proposed when the measure of size is not well related to the study variables. Some of the proposed estimators are found superior to the existing alternatives. A numerical study is carried out to investigate the performances of the proposed alternatives.  相似文献

With the increased availability of longitudinal data, dynamic panel data models have become commonplace. Moreover, the properties of various estimators of such models are well known. However, we show that these estimators break down when the data are irregularly spaced along the time dimension. Unfortunately, this is an increasingly frequent occurrence as many longitudinal surveys are collected at non‐uniform intervals and no solution is currently available when time‐varying covariates are included in the model. In this paper, we propose two new estimators for dynamic panel data models when data are irregularly spaced and compare their finite‐sample performance to the näive application of existing estimators. We consider a multiple mismeasured regressor errors-in-variables model. We develop closed-form minimum distance estimators from any number of estimating equations, which are linear in the third and higher cumulants of the observable variables. Using the cumulant estimators alters qualitative inference relative to ordinary least squares in two applications related to investment and leverage regressions. The estimators perform well in Monte Carlos calibrated to resemble the data from our applications. Although the cumulant estimators are asymptotically equivalent to the moment estimators from Erickson and Whited (2002), the finite-sample performance of the cumulant estimators exceeds that of the moment estimators.  相似文献

Surveys usually include questions where individuals must select one in a series of possible options that can be sorted. On the other hand, multiple frame surveys are becoming a widely used method to decrease bias due to undercoverage of the target population. In this work, we propose statistical techniques for handling ordinal data coming from a multiple frame survey using complex sampling designs and auxiliary information. Our aim is to estimate proportions when the variable of interest has ordinal outcomes. Two estimators are constructed following model‐assisted generalised regression and model calibration techniques. Theoretical properties are investigated for these estimators. Simulation studies with different sampling procedures are considered to evaluate the performance of the proposed estimators in finite size samples. An application to a real survey on opinions towards immigration is also included.  相似文献

We consider improved estimation strategies for a two-parameter inverse Gaussian distribution and use a shrinkage technique for the estimation of the mean parameter. In this context, two new shrinkage estimators are suggested and demonstrated to dominate the classical estimator under the quadratic risk with realistic conditions. Furthermore, based on our shrinkage strategy, a new estimator is proposed for the common mean of several inverse Gaussian distributions, which uniformly dominates the Graybill–Deal type unbiased estimator. The performance of the suggested estimators is examined by using simulated data and our shrinkage strategies are shown to work well. The estimation methods and results are illustrated by two empirical examples.  相似文献

In this work, we analyze the performance of production units using the directional distance function which allows to measure the distance to the frontier of the production set along any direction in the inputs/outputs space. We show that this distance can be expressed as a simple transformation of radial or hyperbolic distance. This formulation allows to define robust directional distances in the lines of α-quantile or order-m partial frontiers and also conditional directional distance functions, conditional to environmental factors. We propose simple methods of estimation and derive the asymptotic properties of our estimators.  相似文献

Variable selection and error structure determination of a partially linear model with time series errors are important issues. In this paper, we investigate the regression coefficient and autoregressive order shrinkage and selection via the smoothly clipped absolute deviation penalty for a partially linear model with a divergent number of covariates and finite order autoregressive time series errors. Both consistency and asymptotic normality of the proposed penalized estimators are derived. The oracle property of the resultant estimators is proved. Simulation studies are carried out to assess the finite‐sample performance of the proposed procedure. A real data analysis is made to illustrate the usefulness of the proposed procedure as well.  相似文献
