Public Affairs Management Activities of German Multinational Corporations in India

In this paper the importance of public affairs management in multinational corporations in India will be examined. After briefly discussing the state of the art in international business and society literature, a conceptual framework for public affairs management in multinational corporations will be developed. This framework serves as the theoretical basis for an empirical study among German multinational corporations in India. In the main part of this paper the results of this study will be presented and discussed. The paper ends with a critical assessment and some major implications for future studies.     

Public Relations Autonomy, Legal Dominance, and Strategic Orientation as Predictors of Crisis Communicative Strategies

This article investigates the factors affecting how public relations autonomy, legal dominance, and strategic orientation affect crisis communicative response in corporate contexts. Communication managers, crisis managers, public affairs managers, and/or public relations managers were solicited from Taiwan’s top 500 companies to participate in a survey. The results revealed that, in contrast to public relations autonomy being the strongest and sole predictor of concession strategy, legal dominance could predict defensive and diversionary responses in crisis events. The article concludes with a discussion of practical applications and theoretical implications.     

Öffentlich-rechtlicher Rundfunk in der Krise

The German system of public broadcasting has arrived at a crisis point: too many lightweight channels, too many soap operas and boulevard magazines, too little on culture and too much on celebrity. Wasted investments, product placements, misappropriation of funds and fraud led to public commotion over the German public broadcasting system, which is funded with more than 7 billion euros per year. Is German public broadcasting worth all this money? In view of these recent affairs, the debate on reforming public broadcasting in Germany has gained momentum; several ideas for reform are addressed in this article.

The US-EC confrontation in the GATT from an EC perspective

Negotiations on agriculture have for a long time been the centre piece and the stumbling block of the Uruguay Round. While the EC has had to bear the brunt of public criticism, the US has clearly contributed its fair share to bringing about the present unsatisfactory state of affairs. This article focuses on the latter's role in international agricultural trade.

CIFIT,More Ways to Cooperation

It is the second time for Chengdu Sacred Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd to take part in the China International Fair for Investment and Trade （CIFIT）. The company mainly produces energy saving products-high-power energysaving lamps. During this exhibition, they start their business with businessmen from 11 countries including Italy and Austria. The total number of turnover intention has already reached about 30 million yuan. And this year＇s CIFIT comes to its 13th session, and last for four days, from September 8 to September 11, 2009 in Xiamen, Fujian, China.     

三十年的总结，几代人的奋斗——成都理工大学反腐倡廉建设三十年回顾

1978年以来，成都理工大学的反腐倡廉工作经历了恢复建设、稳步推进和创新发展三个阶段，各个阶段有其发展特点，并取得一定的成效。未来我校的反腐倡廉建设工作还要在继续完善反腐倡廉建设的责任体系；加强对领导干部的教育、管理和监督；严肃查办案件，坚决惩治腐败；继续深入推进校务和院务公开，确保权利规范透明运行；推进廉政文化建设，营造风清气正的校园环境等方面继续努力。     

Organized Complexity in Human Affairs: The Tobacco Industry

How do we explain organized complexity in human affairs? The most common model explain s human organization as the outcome of rational design; order in human affairs arises from the intentions, plans, and orders of those in charge. For organizational complexity on vast scales, this model is insufficient, misleading, and potentially disastrous. An alternative model, based upon self-organization within complex systems, is developed and applied to the tobacco industry. Leaked documents and public testimony point to widespread distortion of information within the tobacco industry. The model developed herein describes such behaviors as emergent outcomes, not reducible to or sufficiently explained by individual fraud and deliberate deceit. Critics of the tobacco industry often fail to appreciate the role of self-organization in complex systems. They presume rational design. Consequently, they imply more intentional deceit, deliberate planning, and conspiracy than needed to explain the distortions that actually occurred. The tobacco industry expresses general phenomena found in many large-scale human systems. This paper describes such phenomena and examines their moral implications.     

财务二重性视角下的企业财务治理及相关问题研究——兼论财务管理主体、客体与目标

现代财务的内涵决定了企业财务包括价值和权力两个层面,其中,财务治理主要从权力角度处理财务问题,而财务管理侧重从价值角度处理财务问题。据此,我们认为:财务治理主体是拥有财权并参与配置财权的自然人或法人,而财务管理主体是财务活动的参与者与执行者;财务治理客体是财权,而财务管理客体是本金;财务治理目标是财权的最优配置,而财务管理目标是本金的最大增值。     

The Dangers of Educational and Cultural Populism: Three Vignettes on the Problems-of Aesthetic Insensitivity,the Pitfalls of Pandering,and the Virtues of Artistic Integrity

This essay applies the method of Subjective Personal Introspection (SPI) to a presentation of three vignettes that bear upon the dangers of educational and cultural populism. The story of Father White illustrates the problem of aesthetic insensitivity. Revisiting Mr. Holland indicates how this fictional music teacher panders to his students in a way that ensures their lack of aesthetic discrimination. Meanwhile, Nancy LaMott serves as a counterexample to underscore the value of musical training, hard work, and discerning judgment in the pursuit of artistic integrity. A concluding section draws implications for public policy and other concerns related to consumer affairs.     

An Equitable Trust in The Building Industry in 1794

Japanese manufacturing in the developed regions of Europe and North America has been strongly associated with the more competitive sectors of Japan's high growth economy, such as consumer electronics, semi-conductors and transport equipment. During the earliest years of Japanese productive investment in Europe, however, a significant number of projects from Japan's less competitive chemicals sector were being established. These projects, together with those from other chemicals-related sectors of Japan's domestic industry, will be shown to have emerged in response to the widespread concern over environmental and pollution issues which dominated public affairs in Japan during the decade after 1965.     

对当前我国高校行政管理现状的思考

高校行政管理属于社会公共事务管理范畴，带有政府行政管理的鲜明印痕，同时它又是高校管理系统的中枢。从基础层面上看，它具有阶级统治职能、社会管理职能和社会服务职能．并通过一定的运行机制来实现。其管理对象是教育事务，其目的在于实现教育目标，它具有导向功能、制约功能、调节功能和保障功能。针对目前我国高校行政管理中存在的执行职能残缺、行政权力挤占学术权力、服务职能严重弱化等问题，应通过强化行政执行、提高学术研究地位、适当分散权力、推行问责制等加以解决。     

Business Ethics in Central and Eastern Europe with Special Focus on the Czech Republic

This report characterizes the state of affairs in the field of business ethics in Central and Eastern Europe. It reveals the major problems and challenges brought about by the profound reforms to these societies and economies. It also offers some results of surveys looking at public opinion on morals and ethics, as well as on current business practices. In order to give a complex picture, it presents brief lessons from the history of particular countries.The author, devoting the most attention to the Czech Republic, tries to describe not only the development of business ethics in the theoretical arena but also the first steps taken by the business world itself.
