This study aims to evaluate the current status of merger and acquisition (M&A) studies in the hotel industry and propose directions for future research. Forty-six articles were identified from ScienceDirect, Scopus, and EBSCOhost including 31 empirical and 15 conceptual articles. We review these articles from five perspectives, namely, journal/year distribution, methodology, research context, theoretical foundation and major topics. Findings reveal most studies on M&As in the hotel industry (hotel M&As) focus on performance, motivation and objectives. Developed economies (DEs) are the major research contexts and quantitative approach is the dominant research method. To this end, we propose seven research directions that cover outstanding themes as follows: 1) exploring M&A process, 2) M&A performance assessment, 3) identifying M&A impacts on stakeholders, 4) examining cross-border M&As, 5) examining emerging economies (EE)-based M&As, 6) investigating macro environment impacts, and 7) premium determinants and their impacts on hotel M&As.  相似文献

This study reviews marketing research published in selected hospitality and tourism journals for the period of 2002–2003. The review includes summaries of research topics, industry applications, and methods of study design and data analyses. Significant topical research trends are identified and discussed to raise issues for future research. Included also are the industry-specific current trends and issues that dictate immediate research attention. The gaps between hospitality and tourism marketing research and industry's research needs are addressed to encourage additional research on neglected topics. The study concludes with general suggestions for future hospitality and tourism marketing research.  相似文献

This study aims to analyze the intellectual and cognitive structures of the sharing economy as a field of research. Adopting an integrated bibliometric approach of citation, co-citation, and co-word analysis, this study analyses 941 articles published on Web of Science from 1978 to 2019. Findings reveal that despite there being a latent concentration in citations distribution, the ascending and descending influence patterns discovered over time indicate a dynamic flow and healthy growth of the field. The analysis of the intellectual structure identifies four main areas of research, with hospitality and tourism being the most developed, and the journals about hospitality being the preferred channel for research into the sharing economy. Finally, for the cognitive structure analysis, in-depth strategic diagrams, thematic evolution, and trend analysis disclose some research gaps. Thus, we contribute to the sharing economy literature by inductively synthesizing, and organizing SE research, and by proposing future research directions.  相似文献

This study critically reviews the key perspectives and topics in innovation research in various disciplines and the hospitality and tourism (H&T) field. This study synthesizes and analyzes 85 innovation literature review studies from several fields and 261 empirical articles from the H&T literature to achieve this purpose. The key topics are organized into three different perspectives based on how the phenomenon is understood: innovation as an economic phenomenon, innovation as a market phenomenon, and innovation as an organizational phenomenon. Through in-depth analysis and discussion, this article identified an extensive array of potential future research avenues. Some of these include exploring innovation as systemic turbulence under the lens of complexity theory, the commercialization of idle innovations as part of the open innovation paradigm, and the effect of corporate governance on innovation, representing key industry implications of the study.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to test the relationships between external knowledge, internal innovation, firms’ open innovation performance, service innovation and business performance in the Pakistani hotel industry. A simple random sample of 285 managerial staff in the Pearl-Continental Hotels & Resorts of Pakistan was surveyed. The findings show that firms’ open innovation performance has a positive influence on service innovation and business performance. They also reveal that external knowledge and internal innovation positively influence firms’ open innovation performance and that further leads to service innovation and business performance respectively. This study provides practitioners with firms’ open innovation performance as a tool to enhance business performance while adopting the strategy.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The impact of weather on outdoor recreation and nature-based tourism has received increasing attention from the research community during the past ten years. This article synthesizes the results of those inquiries, categorizing their predominant themes and identifying knowledge gaps. One hundred eighty-four weather-related articles drawn from a cross-section of international journals served as the foundation for this work. The research synthesis identified three recurring themes: weather-related variables that influence outdoor recreation and nature-based tourism, the importance of geographic research context, and prevailing activity types. A gap analysis indicated an abundance of underinvestigated topics in weather-related studies in outdoor recreation and nature-based tourism. The article concludes with recommendations for future weather-related studies in outdoor recreation and nature-based tourism developed from the predominant themes uncovered in the research synthesis and research needs discovered in the gap analysis.  相似文献

This study combined two bibliometric analysis methods to provide a systematic and holistic review of social media-related academic literature. A total of 406 publications related to social media between 2007 and 2016 were identified from 16 business and hospitality/tourism journals. Co-citation analysis identified Word-of-Mouth as the major theoretical foundation of social media research in business, while the hospitality/tourism field presented a diverse theoretical foundation. The study then employed co-word analysis to identify the evolution of research themes over time in both fields. The comparison of social media research between the two fields highlighted four similarities, including the growth of research over time, the term “social media” gaining popularity, the new trend of social networking sites, and managerial applications as research focus. Finally, the study called for a future research agenda on social media research in the hospitality/tourism field.  相似文献

In recent decades, rising consumer interest in visiting relatively less commercialized natural destinations has facilitated the growth of ecotourism. Yet the research on ecotourism is fragmented, presenting gaps in the current understanding of this topic. This study performs a bibliometric analysis to assimilate the present knowledge from a total of 878 articles published in six reputable outlets between 1990 and 2019. The study analyzed citation chains and coauthorship networks to acknowledge contributions from select authors, organizations, and countries. Next, a cocitation analysis of the prior literature identified four major thematic areas: ecological preservation, residents' interests, the carbon footprint, and tourists' behaviors. Further, a dynamic cocitation analysis technique mapped the development of these thematic areas. Subsequently, a content analysis of the four thematic areas delivered significant insights about prior research in the domain and indicated future avenues of research.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

One hundred and five articles on social media in hospitality and tourism during 2004–2014 were identified from three databases and seven journals. Seven dimensions were used for analysis. Results indicated that social media research in hospitality and tourism is in its early stages with two turning points. The number of articles rose dramatically in 2010 and unexpectedly dropped in 2014. Research gaps are apparent in several industry sectors in topics beyond online reviews and in research methods, where literature reviews suffer from small numbers and few prominent researchers. The size of the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events/Exhibitions (MICE) industry, and its popularity as a career choice are growing, along with the number of MICE college programs. Although the industry has begun to recognize its impact on sustainability, and is increasing efforts to improve sustainability-related practices, there is a lack of research on MICE education about sustainability. This study examines MICE professionals’ perceptions about sustainability in meeting and event education in order to help MICE educators equip students with the knowledge that is pertinent to their future. In-depth interviews with 10 MICE professionals show that they think students should learn about sustainability not only as a general concept but also as a business case for meeting and events. Measuring and tracking impacts were also important. The interviewees had mixed views about the industry’s current sustainability practices. Several practical recommendations for MICE educators, and future research topics are discussed.  相似文献

生态旅游是旅游研究中的重要分支,在可持续发展理念和生态文明建设实践的影响和培育下,我国生态旅游理论研究和实践都取得了长足的进展。本文选取CNKI中国学术期刊网络出版总库的中文核心期刊和CSSCI来源期刊,对高关注度文献、关键词、作者、期刊特征进行了分析,基于CiteSpace知识图谱分析,结合生态旅游实践发展,将中国生态旅游研究划分为3个阶段,探索阶段的研究主要集中于内涵和理念的认知,发展阶段的研究热点主要有自然保护区域、生态旅游发展和生态建设等,深化阶段的研究主题更丰富,与乡村振兴、生态文明等战略的联系更紧密。最后,从基础理论与研究框架构建、生态旅游地健康价值与知识内涵、典型地域系统性研究、市场规律与培育、生态旅游影响及其演化规律、与地域文化互动融合、管理技术与社区参与7个方面对未来中国生态旅游研究趋势进行了预测。  相似文献

Research has indicated that there is a relationship between stress and participation in leisure (Caltabiano, 1995; Chalip, Thomas, & Voyle, 1992; Reich & Zautra, 1981; Strauss-Blasche, Ekmekcioglu, & Marktl, 2002; Warner-Smith & Brown, 2002; Wheeler & Frank, 1988). It has been suggested that leisure buffers or mediates stress, thereby enhancing individual health and well-being, because of the self-determination and social support that are experienced in leisure (Coleman & Iso-Ahola, 1993). However, a number of issues have been raised by the recent research, including whether or not the leisure, stress, and health relationship varies by type of leisure activity (Iwasaki & Mannell, 2000), exactly why and how leisure (or any given leisure activity) interacts with stress (Iwasaki & Mannell, 1999-2000; Kleiber, Hutchinson, & Williams, 2002), and the possibility that leisure itself could be a stressor (Iwasaki & Mannell, 2000; Iwasaki & Smale, 1998). The interpretive study reported here examined a particular leisure activity--collegiate sport--and individuals' experiences of stress because of their participation in this type of leisure. Results indicate that collegiate sport is perceived to be both a buffer and experience of stress. Results also reveal that race and gender are important in shaping collegiate athletes' experiences of stress. Support was found for the ideas that (a) stress is a transactional process (Lazarus, 1998) and (b) research approaches that allow the dynamic experience and contextualization of the personal meanings of stress and leisure to emerge are needed (Iwasaki & Smale, 1998; Kleiber et al., 2002).  相似文献

《地理学报》是刊载地理学研究权威成果的最具影响力的国内学术期刊,刊载的旅游地理学学术研究成果反映了该学科的特征、主题和发展态势。本文以《地理学报》刊载的旅游研究论文为数据样本,采用CiteSpace软件绘制旅游地理学相关领域30年来的研究成果图谱,可视化展现其主要学术力量、热点主题、研究方法及其时间演变过程,从而考察30年来该学科领域的发展趋势。研究发现:旅游地理学载文数量日益增多,主题呈现多元化。相关成果有明显的阶段性特征,经历了起步转向、继承发展和综合发展的3个旅游研究阶段。同时,整体研究呈现向东部倾斜的趋势,且实证研究多于理论研究,旅游地理学的理论体系亟待完善。未来需加强学科间的交流与合作,重视理论创新、学科交叉,促使旅游地理学迸发出新的生命活力。  相似文献

A hotel's Food and Beverage (F&B) product is increasingly recognized as an essential component of strategic planning in the hotel business. However, despite the importance of hotel F&Bs, relatively little empirical research has been undertaken to determine major attributes of F&Bs and investigate customers' preferences for them. This study examines the attributes and customer preferences of hotel F&Bs for eleven super deluxe hotels in Korea. Factor analysis is first employed to identify the underlying dimensions of F&B attributes which determine how customers perceive F&B performance. A second technique, multidimensional scaling, is used to reveal customers' perceptions of how a given hotel's F&B differs from the competitors' and preferences of when that hotel's F&B is evaluated better than the others. A meaningful interpretation is delineated from the perceptual map of major F&B attributes and ideal points of customers. The findings suggest that for the ultimate success of F&B management a hotel's F&B manager must make the effective connection between the attributes of hotel F&B and ideal points perceived by customers in various dining-out situations.  相似文献

This study applies bibliometric analysis to senior tourism research from 1998 to 2017, identifies its intellectual structure, emerging trends, and future research opportunities. Data collected from the Web-of-Science and Scopus is used to build an expanded network encompassing 700 core articles and 7221 citations. The results reveal a slowly increasing growth of research, with the last period including 41% of outputs. The most cited papers are mainly older, represent 1.99% of the sample and account for 8.52% of citations. The network of journals and institutions show the highest ranking to be in Tourism Management and in the University of Queensland. The identification of structural holes, critical articles and the keyword analysis highlights priorities in senior tourism, pointing to new opportunities for research. The dynamic analysis of the last two decades using CiteSpace for co-citation and co-occurrence network analysis aims to equip researchers and the hospitality industry with new exploration tools.  相似文献

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, travel live streaming has been increasingly implemented by online travel agents as an effective approach for economic recovery. However, little is known about users' motivations for participating in this activity. This study aims to understand Chinese customers' motivations by developing a measurement scale based on in-depth interviews and surveys. Eight motivators were extracted: socializing & belonging, media engagement, remuneration, product examination, relaxation & escape, entertainment & novelty, self-development, and immersion experience. Literature reviews serve as cornerstones for advancing the corpus of existing knowledge. This article offers an overview of the evolution of destination studies from 2000 to 2020. The current study first overviews 20 destination review articles and then applies bibliometric algorithms to determine authorships, popular topics, thematic clusters, and structural variations in 1393 destination studies. The bibliometric analysis identifies the seven largest specialties of destination research as destination loyalty, destination image, destination digitalization, destination marketing, destination experience and recommendation, destination governance, and destination resources. A framework was developed to illustrate the major topics of interest at the macro, meso, and micro levels. The article discusses similarities and contrasts between the findings of the two review methodologies and concludes with a research agenda for destination management scholarship.  相似文献

Research on well-being has experienced exponential growth in tourism studies. However, knowledge about well-being of seniors in tourism is still limited, and thus conceptually underdeveloped, despite the growth of the ageing population and increased research focus on the subject. Consequently, the purpose of this review is to provide a holistic understanding of seniors' well-being in tourism, delineate the current research status, then identify gaps and future avenues for research. A systematic quantitative literature review was conducted, leading to 56 eligible articles extracted for subsequent analysis. By mapping the current state of knowledge, the study indicates a need for a comprehensive theoretical framework based on a holistic view of seniors' well-being in tourism. The findings of the systematic review suggest the need for a eudaimonic approach to the topic and research from residents' perspectives. Suggestions are made to investigate constraints to well-being and cultural differences in conceptions of seniors' well-being in tourism.  相似文献

Although the existing literature has suggested that tourists' experience co-creation during or after trips benefits destination loyalty, knowledge of how pre-trip behavior impacts future behavioral intention from a process perspective is limited. To address the gaps, we develop a logic chain linking past behavior, cognition, emotion, and future behavioral intention under a stage-by-stage process of tourists' experience co-creation using the service-dominant logic of value co-creation theory and the self-consistency principle of attitude theory. Empirically, utilizing PLS-SEM and mediation analysis in a survey (n = 500) and an experiment (n = 128), we found a serial mediation pathway whereby high-degree pre-trip involvement heightened satisfaction with the co-creation of experience, which increased place identity or place dependence, and which ultimately enhanced destination loyalty. This research is the first attempt to examine the impact of past behavior on future intention for tourists’ experience co-creation from a process perspective.  相似文献
