Quality control for structural credit risk models

Over the last four decades, a large number of structural models have been developed to estimate and price credit risk. The focus of the paper is on a neglected issue pertaining to fundamental shifts in the structural parameters governing default. We propose formal quality control procedures that allow risk managers to monitor fundamental shifts in the structural parameters of credit risk models. The procedures are sequential — hence apply in real time. The basic ingredients are the key processes used in credit risk analysis, such as most prominently the Merton distance to default process as well as financial returns. Moreover, while we propose different monitoring processes, we also show that one particular process is optimal in terms of minimal detection time of a break in the drift process and relates to the Radon–Nikodym derivative for a change of measure.     

A map traceability management scheme for security control

ABSTRACT

A map traceability management scheme for security control is proposed utilising visual cryptography and Quick Response Code. The map information is classified into two categories: the public information MPI and the traceable map information MTI, and they are both converted into QR codes. Map shares MS and control shares CS are generated according to extended multiple visual cryptographic scheme. MPI can be obtained by scanning the MS, while MTI can be got by overlaying the MS on CS which is only accessible to management units, so it can identify every map and provide the basis for the traceability management.     

Cloud-based smart asset management for urban flood control

Urban flooding, frequently occurring in metropolitan areas, is one of the largest disasters worldwide. Albeit a large number of approaches and Enterprise Information Systems (EISs) have been designed for urban flood control, the ineffective management of physical assets has greatly impeded their deployment. Managing diverse physical assets is critical in urban flood control. Challenges exist in sharing assets and services between agencies, and ensuring real-time and flexible decision supports. This paper proposes a cloud-based asset management platform. Cloud technology is adopted for processing the huge amount of data collected by various physical assets and for providing flexible access interfaces. Service-oriented methods are applied to facilitate the sharing of assets and services and to enable the development of flexible and scalable Decision Support Systems (DSSs). Moreover, the concept of smart asset is introduced for remote real-time data collection, and the corresponding software agent model is developed to wrap these diverse assets, realising the UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) working mode. Finally, a case study on the urban flood control process of Guangqumen Bridge in Beijing is provided to illustrate the asset management processes of the proposed platform.

Cash management economies in the production of food

This study suggests that the behavior of demand of cash by business firms can better be understood by empirical testing theory on data derived from individual units rather than making unrealistic assumptions to justify testing of aggregated data. Using data for firms in the food industry, this study shows that the rate of interest is a significant variable in explaining the demand for cash. Furthermore, the statistical results indicate that the economies of scale in the management of cash depends upon the type of goods produced by the corporations under study. Accordingly, one cannot make any generalization regarding the question of the economies of scale in the management of cash.
