“两会”临时交通管制政策的成本分析

2011年＂两会＂期间,北京将实行交通临时管制。交通管制将使得原本就已经拥堵不堪的北京道路雪上加霜,也将给许多途经交通管制区域的市民出行带来巨大的不便。＂两会＂期间的交通管制使很多上班族不得不选择绕行,而绕行又将增加上班高峰时段的路面拥堵状况。此外,交通管制在一定程度上还会加剧环境污染。本文将通过成本收益分析方法分析测算交通管制政策的成本。

Wealth and the capitalist spirit

The wealth distribution in the U.S. is more unequal than either the income or earnings distribution, a fact current models of saving behavior have difficulty explaining. Using Max Weber’s [Weber, M. (1905). The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism. Charles Scribners’ and Sons (1958 translated edition)] idea that individuals may have a ‘capitalist spirit’, I construct and simulate a model where individuals accumulate wealth for its own sake rather than as deferred consumption. Including capitalist spirit preferences in a simple life cycle model, with no other modifications, generates a skewness of wealth consistent with that observed in the U.S. economy. Furthermore, capitalist spirit preferences provide a way to generate decreasing risk aversion with increases in wealth without resorting to idiosyncratic rates of time preference.

《红字》是一部有关反叛女性——海斯特的小说。《红字》通过对女主人公海斯特悲惨生活的描写,再现了十七世纪美国清教社会中妇女的处境,展现了海斯特在与命运的抗争中流露的反抗精神。     

Taxation, growth, and the spirit of capitalism

This paper uses a general two-sector model of endogenous growth to examine how the spirit of capitalism affects the relation between public finance and growth. The spirit of capitalism is defined as acquisitive personal objectives. We find that if the spirit of capitalism is present, an increase in the share of government spending in output reduces the long-run growth rate. The negative relationship between fiscal spending and growth is consistent with empirical evidence.     

The spirit of capitalism, social status, money, and accumulation

This paper demonstrates the unambiguous existence of the Tobin portfolio-shift effect in the wealth-is-status and the spirit-of-capitalism models of growth. Namely, higher inflation leads to higher capital stock in the long run, and inflation increases the endogenous-growth rate of the economy.     

Stock markets and economic uncertainty: Roles of legislative sessions and coalition strength

Legislative sessions constitute a critical component of the Westminster Parliamentary system, in a country like India. They play a crucial role in important policy decisions that have ramifications for the corporate sector's cash flows, leading to changes in stock price and volatility. Using data from India, we find that legislative session meetings influence stock price volatility, and the effect is inversely proportional to the strength of the ruling coalition government. These findings advance the theories of intraparty portfolio allocation and partisan trust discrimination in representative democracies based on intraparty and interparty competition in a ruling alliance. Our findings suggest that political competition reflected through government strength in legislative session meetings shapes the mechanism of economic uncertainty, i.e., the foundation of asset price volatility. We draw implications for the conduct of parliamentary business as well as stock investment strategy.     

消解与再构：大学精神的人文解读

人文精神是大学精神的核心要素。随着市场经济的渗透和大学职能的扩展,大学人文精神日渐消解,主要表现在工具价值与理性价值、经济效益与人才效益、科学教育与人文教育、官职追求与学术追求之间的失衡。大学人文精神的再构途径至少应包括树立以人为本的教育理念、构建科学合理的课程体系、营造气息浓郁的校园文化氛围。
