The internationalization of the economics curriculum has been limited by the absence of a modern amroach in specific courses, especially at the introductory and intermediate levels. This paper argues that in order to fully internationalize the undergraduate economics curriculum, microeconomics courses should be approached from a perspective based on the economics of organization and management and game theory. A conceptual framework for internationalizing the curriculum based on this approach is presented. This framework is employed to introduce opportunities to internationalize each course and discuss the role of each course in internationalizing the whole curriculum. 相似文献

SUMMARY The hospitality and tourism industry in the USA is increasingly operating in a changing international business environment. Its customers and guests are international tourists and business travellers, its major employers are often multi-national corporations, and its employees are of multi-ethnic heritage. This paper examines the need for universities to take a coordinated approach in internationalizing their hospitality and tourism curriculum. Such an approach is needed to prepare students for the global work environment of the future. It presents and evaluates the various approaches that have been taken by institutions from around the world, in their efforts to internationalize their programs. The paper then examines the case of The Hotel Management School Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, which has taken an integrated approach to curriculum internationalization. Information in this paper is drawn from examples in the literature, as well as from the international experiences of the authors. Finally, this paper concludes with a model that can be used to design a fully integrated curriculum. 相似文献

This study documents the existence of strong day-of-the-week effects for most of the Asia Pacific markets. There are also more day-of-the-week variations in the non-January months than in January and there is also a ‘Rogalski’ effect for returns on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Moreover, some turn-of-the-lunar-year effects are found for some markets. Unlike the industrialized markets, month-of-the-year variations are not consistent with the tax-loss selling hypothesis in most of the Asia Pacific markets. This study also finds it hard to reject the hypothesis that day-of-the-week variations of Asia Pacific markets are similar to that of the U.S. market after adjustments for time zone differences, especially for smaller markets. 相似文献

This paper investigates the effect of income diversification on bank risk for a large sample of commercial banks in 14 Asia Pacific economies over the period 2011–2016. Using a dynamic panel data model with a system generalized methodof moments estimator, we find that banks with a higher level of income diversification are less risky in general. We further consider both developed and emerging economies according to the International Monetary Fund's classification of the level of economic development. Specifically, for emerging economies, the results indicate that banks with a higher level of income diversification face less risk. However, the diversification of commercial bank income has no significant impact on bank risk in developed Asia Pacific economies. 相似文献

SUMMARY The purpose of this paper is to forecast how the international business curriculum will appear in the early 21st century using the ten major world trends predicted by Naisbitt and Aburdene (1990). It concludes by prophesizing that the international business curriculum of the future will: (1) have to appeal to more international students in U. S. schools, (2) include more course work in the arts, (3) include more coursework in ethics, (4) attempt to resolve the conflict between global lifestyles and national culturalism, (5) recognize that world-wide privatization will lead to less public support for higher education and hence greater efforts must be made to meet needs and wants of a diverse student body, (6) attend to the cultural needs of Pacific Rim students, (7) have to appeal to more international female students for whom special courses and services will be necessary, (8) address biotechnology problems as ethical and moral dilemmas, (9) provide coursework to prepare students to manage a world-wide religious revival, and (10) provide programs that recognize the individual over the collective. 相似文献

In this study, buyers were classified into three categories, namely planners, partial planners and impulse buyers, based on the consumer's product category buying intention and specific brand buying intention prior to entering stores. Five hundred and sixty eight and one hundred on-street interviews were conducted in New Zealand and Hong Kong, respectively. The results indicated that the proportion of impulse buyers in New Zealand was rather small (27%) when compared with that of planners and partial planners (50% and 23%, respectively). In contrast, the Hong Kong study found that the incidence of impulse buying behaviour (45%) was more common that the other two types of behaviours. However, despite the difference in the level of impulse buying behaviour between the two coutries, all the types of buyers in both countries agreed that low price was the primary stimulus that induced impulse buying. 相似文献

This paper focuses on the relation between large car manufacturers’ incentive and opportunity to innovate and their electric vehicle (EV) business strategies. We analyze how environmental regulation and the firm's incentive (measured by net income) and opportunity to innovate (measured by EV asset position, determined from a combination of patent, partnership and prototype data) affected EV sales over the period 1990–2011. During the EV's R&D period in the 1990s, large car manufacturers that were regulated by the full zero emission vehicle mandate developed a significantly stronger EV asset position, but did not sell significantly more EVs than their rivals. During the EV's commercialization period (2007–2011), large car manufacturers with both a strong incentive and a strong opportunity to innovate sold significantly more EVs. Based on these results, the paper offers a typology of business strategies, several managerial implications, and recommendations for policy makers to stimulate sustainable development.
