In this study, we evaluate the option prices on two assets under stochastic interest rates when the stochastic process that underlying asset prices follow is depending on a correlated bivariate Markov-modulated geometric Brownian motion model with jump risks. More specifically, we conduct the joint dynamic modeling by identifying two independent compound Poisson processes with the log-normal jump sizes to describe both individual jumps and systematic cojumps. Facilitating the cojumping behavior this way with the time-inhomogeneity of the volatility, option pricing expressions are readily obtainable since the Gerber–Siu’s approach is employed to determine a pricing kernel. The empirical results and numerical illustrations are provided to show the impact of cojumps and stochastic volatilities on option prices.  相似文献

There is strong empirical evidence that long-term interest rates contain a time-varying risk premium. Options may contain valuable information about this risk premium because their prices are sensitive to the underlying interest rates. We use the joint time series of swap rates and interest rate option prices to estimate dynamic term structure models. The risk premiums that we estimate using option prices are better able to predict excess returns for long-term swaps over short-term swaps. Moreover, in contrast to the previous literature, the most successful models for predicting excess returns have risk factors with stochastic volatility. We also show that the stochastic volatility models we estimate using option prices match the failure of the expectations hypothesis.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider vulnerable options with stochastic liquidity risk. We employ liquidity-adjusted pricing models to describe the underlying stock price and option issuer’s assets. In addition, the correlation between these assets is stochastic, depending on the market liquidity measures. In the proposed framework, we derive closed forms of vulnerable European options with stochastic liquidity risk and then use them to illustrate the effects of stochastic liquidity risk on vulnerable option prices. Numerical results show that the effects of liquidity risk on the prices of out-of-the-money options or the options with a short maturity are not negligible.  相似文献

We aim to calibrate stochastic volatility models from option prices. We develop a Tikhonov regularization approach with an efficient numerical algorithm to recover the risk neutral drift term of the volatility (or variance) process. In contrast to most existing literature, we do not assume that the drift term has any special structure. As such, our algorithm applies to calibration of general stochastic volatility models. An extensive numerical analysis is presented to demonstrate the efficiency of our approach. Interestingly, our empirical study reveals that the risk neutral variance processes recovered from market prices of options on S&P 500 index and EUR/USD exchange rate are indeed linearly mean-reverting.  相似文献

We introduce a novel semi-parametric estimator of American option prices in discrete time. The specification is based on a parameterized stochastic discount factor and is nonparametric w.r.t. the historical dynamics of the Markovian state variables. The historical transition density estimator minimizes a distance built on the Kullback–Leibler divergence from a kernel transition density, subject to the no-arbitrage restrictions for a non-defaultable bond, the underlying asset and some American option prices. We use dynamic programming to make explicit the nonlinear restrictions on the Euclidean and functional parameters coming from option data. We study asymptotic and finite sample properties of the estimators.  相似文献

In this article, we present a new class of pricing models that extend the application of Wishart processes to the so-called stochastic local volatility (or hybrid) pricing paradigm. This approach combines the advantages of local and stochastic volatility models. Despite the growing interest on the topic, however, it seems that no particular attention has been paid to the use of multidimensional specifications for the stochastic volatility component. Our work tries to fill the gap: we introduce two hybrid models in which the stochastic volatility dynamics is described by means of a Wishart process. The proposed parametrizations not only preserve the desirable features of existing Wishart-based models but significantly enhance the ability of reproducing market prices of vanilla options.

This paper examines the equilibrium when stock market crashes can occur and investors have heterogeneous attitudes towards crash risk. The less crash averse insure the more crash averse through options markets that dynamically complete the economy. The resulting equilibrium is compared with various option pricing anomalies: the tendency of stock index options to overpredict volatility and jump risk, the Jackwerth [Recovering risk aversion from option prices and realized returns. Review of Financial Studies 13, 433–451] implicit pricing kernel puzzle, and the stochastic evolution of option prices. Crash aversion is compatible with some static option pricing puzzles, while heterogeneity partially explains dynamic puzzles. Heterogeneity also magnifies substantially the stock market impact of adverse news about fundamentals.  相似文献

In this paper, we present an estimation procedure which uses both option prices and high-frequency spot price feeds to estimate jointly the objective and risk-neutral parameters of stochastic volatility models. The procedure is based on a method of moments that uses analytical expressions for the moments of the integrated volatility and series expansions of option prices and implied volatilities. This results in an easily implementable and rapid estimation technique. An extensive Monte Carlo study compares various procedures and shows the efficiency of our approach. Empirical applications to the Deutsche mark–US dollar exchange rate futures and the S&P 500 index provide evidence that the method delivers results that are in line with the ones obtained in previous studies where much more involved estimation procedures were used.

The stochastic alpha beta rho (SABR) model introduced by Hagan et al. (2002) is widely used in both fixed income and the foreign exchange (FX) markets. Continuously monitored barrier option contracts are among the most popular derivative contracts in the FX markets. In this paper, we develop closed-form formulas to approximate various types of barrier option prices (down-and-out/in, up-and-out/in) under the SABR model. We first derive an approximate formula for the survival density. The barrier option price is the one-dimensional integral of its payoff function and the survival density, which can be easily implemented and quickly evaluated. The approximation error of the survival density is also analyzed. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first time that analytical (approximate) formulas for the survival density and the barrier option prices for the SABR model are derived. Numerical experiments demonstrate the validity and efficiency of these formulas.  相似文献

A reliable method of options pricing in real time would help various players, including hedgers and speculators, to make informed decisions. In this study, we develop an extensive simulation with multiple business environments, which includes the use of real data from the S&P 500 Index between the years 2010–2017 for the 30 days prior to expiration of the options. Forecasted tradability is computed based on the SH model: a theoretical model of real-time options pricing that takes into account players’ heterogeneity with regard to their willingness to accept offers proposed by the opposing player. The quality of the model is examined for the scenario in which the model players are speculators who act against the real market prices. We show that the equilibrium prices predicted by the SH model are close to the market prices (a deviation of up to approx. 3%) in an In-The-Money environment. Additionally, the tougher the players (i.e., the greater their level of unwillingness to accept a bid from the opposing player), the higher the average tradability. We also find that the level of willingness of the players has a greater effect on tradability than does option moneyness or the market trend.

In a market where a stochastic interest rate component characterizes asset dynamics, we propose a flexible lattice framework to evaluate and manage options on equities paying discrete dividends and variable annuities presenting some provisions, like a guaranteed minimum withdrawal benefit. The framework is flexible in that it allows to combine financial and demographic risk, to embed in the contract early exercise features, and to choose the dynamics for interest rates and traded assets. A computational problem arises when each dividend (when valuing an option) or withdrawal (when valuing a variable annuity) is paid, because the lattice lacks its recombining structure. The proposed model overcomes this problem associating with each node of the lattice a set of representative values of the underlying asset (when valuing an option) or of the personal subaccount (when valuing a variable annuity) chosen among all the possible ones realized at that node. Extensive numerical experiments confirm the model accuracy and efficiency.

The aim of this study is to investigate the prices and optimal exercise strategies of certain perpetual American options on the asset under stochastic discount interest model. This is different from Gerber and Shiu (N Am Actuar J 2(3):101–112, 1998), in which the interest force was a constant; here we suppose that the accumulated interest function is perturbed by the standard Brownian motion and Poisson process. We obtain an explicit expression of optimal option-exercise boundary in the case of perpetual put option. Moreover, we get a corresponding result when the individual claim is described by an exponential distribution. Finally, we analyze the influence of certain coefficients in stochastic interest model on the optimal option-exercise boundary.  相似文献

This study presents a novel catastrophe option pricing model that considers counterparty risk. Asset prices are modeled through a jump-diffusion process which is correlated to counterparty loss process and collateral assets. Because of the long term of catastrophe options, this study also examines the model in the stochastic interest rate environment. The numerical results indicate that counterparty risk significantly affects the value of options. Recently, numerous serious financial events have demonstrated the importance of counterparty risk when valuing financial products.  相似文献

This paper studies a new type of barrier option, min–max multi-step barrier options with diverse multiple up or down barrier levels placed in the sub-periods of the option’s lifetime. We develop the explicit pricing formula of this type of option under the Black–Scholes model and explore its applications and possible extensions. In particular, the min–max multi-step barrier option pricing formula can be used to approximate double barrier option prices and compute prices of complex barrier options such as discrete geometric Asian barrier options. As a practical example of directly applying the pricing formula, we introduce and evaluate a re-bouncing equity-linked security. The main theorem of this work is capable of handling the general payoff function, from which we obtain the pricing formulas of various min–max multi-step barrier options. The min–max multi-step reflection principle, the boundary-crossing probability of min–max multi-step barriers with icicles, is also derived.  相似文献

This paper studies the empirical performance of stochastic volatility models for twenty years of weekly exchange rate data for four major currencies. We concentrate on the effects of the distribution of the exchange rate innovations for both parameter estimates and for estimates of the latent volatility series. The density of the log of squared exchange rate innovations is modelled as a flexible mixture of normals. We use three different estimation techniques: quasi-maximum likelihood, simulated EM, and a Bayesian procedure. The estimated models are applied for pricing currency options. The major findings of the paper are that: (1) explicitly incorporating fat-tailed innovations increases the estimates of the persistence of volatility dynamics; (2) the estimation error of the volatility time series is very large; (3) this in turn causes standard errors on calculated option prices to be so large that these prices are rarely significantly different from a model with constant volatility. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

We conduct a national-scale analysis of the determinants of agricultural land values. The theoretical basis for the study is a spatial city model with stochastic returns to future land development. The empirical model of agricultural land prices is estimated with a cross-section on approximately three thousand counties in the contiguous US. The results provide evidence that option values associated with irreversible and uncertain land development are capitalized into current farmland values. For each county, we decompose the current agricultural land value into components measuring rents from agricultural production and rents from future land development.  相似文献

It is well established that the standard Black-Scholes model does a very poor job in matching the prices of vanilla European options. The implied volatility varies by both time to maturity and by the moneyness of the option. One approach to this problem is to use the market option prices to back out a local volatility function that reproduces the market prices. Since option price observations are only available for a limited set of maturities and strike prices, most algorithms require a smoothing technique to implement this approach. In this paper we modify the implementation of Andersen and Brotherton-Ratcliffe to provide another way of dealing with this issue. Numerical examples indicate that our approach is reasonably successful in reproducing the input prices.  相似文献

Projects, private or public, that share input factors or output requirements had better be construed as members of a portfolio. Present risk, the capital asset pricing model may facilitate valuation of each member. Chief results of that model are derived and generalized here as core solutions to a transferable-utility production game. Shadow prices define stochastic discount factors that determine values of individual projects. Variance aversion largely affects such prices whence optimal allocations.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate the pricing issue and catastrophe risk management of exchange options. Exchange options allow the holder to exchange its stocks for another at maturity and can be seen as an extended version of catastrophe equity put options with another traded asset price as strike prices. Since option holders have to issue new shares to exercise the option, we illustrate the differences between option prices calculated using pre-exercise and post-exercise share prices. The effects of default risk on option prices and risk management are also considered. Finally, risk management analysis shows that exchange options can effectively hedge catastrophe risk.  相似文献
