This paper considers the consistent estimation of nonlinear errors-in-variables models. It adopts the functional modeling approach by assuming that the true but unobserved regressors are random variables but making no parametric assumption on the distribution from which the latent variables are drawn. This paper shows how the information extracted from the replicate measurements can be used to identify and consistently estimate a general nonlinear errors-in-variables model. The identification is established through characteristic functions. The estimation procedure involves nonparametric estimation of the conditional density of the latent variables given the measurements using the identification results at the first stage, and at the second stage, a semiparametric nonlinear least-squares estimator is proposed. The consistency of the proposed estimator is also established. Finite sample performance of the estimator is investigated through a Monte Carlo study.  相似文献

This paper deals with a nonlinear errors-in-variables model where the distributions of the unobserved predictor variables and of the measurement errors are nonparametric. Using the instrumental variable approach, we propose method of moments estimators for the unknown parameters and simulation-based estimators to overcome the possible computational difficulty of minimizing an objective function which involves multiple integrals. Both estimators are consistent and asymptotically normally distributed under fairly general regularity conditions. Moreover, root-n consistent semiparametric estimators and a rank condition for model identifiability are derived using the combined methods of the nonparametric technique and Fourier deconvolution.  相似文献

We define a new procedure for consistent estimation of nonparametric simultaneous equations models under the conditional mean independence restriction of Newey et al. [1999. Nonparametric estimation of triangular simultaneous equation models. Econometrica 67, 565–603]. It is based upon local polynomial regression and marginal integration techniques. We establish the asymptotic distribution of our estimator under weak data dependence conditions. Simulation evidence suggests that our estimator may significantly outperform the estimators of Pinkse [2000. Nonparametric two-step regression estimation when regressors and errors are dependent. Canadian Journal of Statistics 28, 289–300] and Newey and Powell [2003. Instrumental variable estimation of nonparametric models. Econometrica 71, 1565–1578].  相似文献

Robust alternatives to the method of moments estimator for estimating the simple structural errors-in-variables model are proposed. Consistency and asymptotic normality of the estimators are established. Using the influence curve the asymptotic variance is given. Results from a simulation experiment indicate a superior performance of robust alternatives to the method of moments estimator in a small sample framework when measurement errors are contaminated normal. A bilinear multivariate errors-in-variables model is considered. It corresponds to an overdetermined set of linear equations AXB=C, A∈ℝm×n, B∈ℝp×q, in which the data A, B, C are perturbed by errors. The total least squares estimator is inconsistent in this case.  An adjusted least squares estimator is constructed, which converges to the true value X, as m →∞, q →∞. A small sample modification of the estimator is presented, which is more stable for small m and q and is asymptotically equivalent to the adjusted least squares estimator. The theoretical results are confirmed by a simulation study. Acknowledgements. We thank two anonymous reviewers for their suggestions and corrections.? A. This paper develops new results for identification and estimation of Gaussian affine term structure models. We establish that three popular canonical representations are unidentified, and demonstrate how unidentified regions can complicate numerical optimization. A separate contribution of the paper is the proposal of minimum-chi-square estimation as an alternative to MLE. We show that, although it is asymptotically equivalent to MLE, it can be much easier to compute. In some cases, MCSE allows researchers to recognize with certainty whether a given estimate represents a global maximum of the likelihood function and makes feasible the computation of small-sample standard errors.  相似文献

We consider a class of household production models characterized by a dichotomy property. In these models the amount of time spent on household production does not depend on the household utility function, conditional on household members having a paid job. We analyse the (non‐parametric) identifiability of the production function and the so‐called jointness function (a function describing which part of household production time is counted as pure leisure). It is shown that the models are identified in the two‐adult case, but not in the single‐adult case. We present an empirical application to Swedish time‐allocation data. The estimates satisfy regularity conditions that were violated in previous studies and pass various specification tests. For this data set we find that male and female home production time are q‐substitutes. Copyright © 2003 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The problem of estimation in nonlinear functional errors-in-variables model is considered. A modified least squares estimator is studied, its consistency and asymptotic normality is established. Simulation results are also presented showing the performance of the estimator in comparison with the naive ordinary least squares estimator. Received: June 1999  相似文献

We consider a multiple mismeasured regressor errors-in-variables model. We develop closed-form minimum distance estimators from any number of estimating equations, which are linear in the third and higher cumulants of the observable variables. Using the cumulant estimators alters qualitative inference relative to ordinary least squares in two applications related to investment and leverage regressions. The estimators perform well in Monte Carlos calibrated to resemble the data from our applications. Although the cumulant estimators are asymptotically equivalent to the moment estimators from Erickson and Whited (2002), the finite-sample performance of the cumulant estimators exceeds that of the moment estimators.  相似文献

This paper considers nonparametric identification of nonlinear dynamic models for panel data with unobserved covariates. Including such unobserved covariates may control for both the individual-specific unobserved heterogeneity and the endogeneity of the explanatory variables. Without specifying the distribution of the initial condition with the unobserved variables, we show that the models are nonparametrically identified from two periods of the dependent variable YitYit and three periods of the covariate XitXit. The main identifying assumptions include high-level injectivity restrictions and require that the evolution of the observed covariates depends on the unobserved covariates but not on the lagged dependent variable. We also propose a sieve maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) and focus on two classes of nonlinear dynamic panel data models, i.e., dynamic discrete choice models and dynamic censored models. We present the asymptotic properties of the sieve MLE and investigate the finite sample properties of these sieve-based estimators through a Monte Carlo study. An intertemporal female labor force participation model is estimated as an empirical illustration using a sample from the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID).  相似文献

This paper considers a continuous three-phase polynomial regression model with two threshold points for dependent data with heteroscedasticity. We assume the model is polynomial of order zero in the middle regime, and is polynomial of higher orders elsewhere. We denote this model by 2 $$ {\mathcal{M}}_2 $$ , which includes models with one or no threshold points, denoted by 1 $$ {\mathcal{M}}_1 $$ and 0 $$ {\mathcal{M}}_0 $$ , respectively, as special cases. We provide an ordered iterative least squares (OiLS) method when estimating 2 $$ {\mathcal{M}}_2 $$ and establish the consistency of the OiLS estimators under mild conditions. When the underlying model is 1 $$ {\mathcal{M}}_1 $$ and is ( d 0 1 ) $$ \left({d}_0-1\right) $$ th-order differentiable but not d 0 $$ {d}_0 $$ th-order differentiable at the threshold point, we further show the O p ( N 1 / ( d 0 + 2 ) ) $$ {O}_p\left({N}^{-1/\left({d}_0+2\right)}\right) $$ convergence rate of the OiLS estimators, which can be faster than the O p ( N 1 / ( 2 d 0 ) ) $$ {O}_p\left({N}^{-1/\left(2{d}_0\right)}\right) $$ convergence rate given in Feder when d 0 3 $$ {d}_0\ge 3 $$ . We also apply a model-selection procedure for selecting κ $$ {\mathcal{M}}_{\kappa } $$ ; κ = 0 , 1 , 2 $$ \kappa =0,1,2 $$ . When the underlying model exists, we establish the selection consistency under the aforementioned conditions. Finally, we conduct simulation experiments to demonstrate the finite-sample performance of our asymptotic results.  相似文献

Summary In this paper it is investigated whether robust estimation procedures for the parameters of a regression model are also applicable when the observations are generated by the errors-in-variables model. Specifically, attention is paid to bounded-influence estimators, i.e. estimators that are constructed in such a way that the influence of a single observation on the outcome of the estimator is bounded. Both the classical errors-in-variables model and models with contaminated observational errors are considered. The authors are indebted to a referee for his valuable comments on an earlier version of this paper.  相似文献

This paper considers identification and estimation of structural interaction effects in a social interaction model. The model allows unobservables in the group structure, which may be correlated with included regressors. We show that both the endogenous and exogenous interaction effects can be identified if there are sufficient variations in group sizes. We consider the estimation of the model by the conditional maximum likelihood and instrumental variables methods. For the case with large group sizes, the possible identification can be weak in the sense that the estimates converge in distribution at low rates.  相似文献

In the simple errors-in-variables model the least squares estimator of the slope coefficient is known to be biased towards zero for finite sample size as well as asymptotically. In this paper we suggest a new corrected least squares estimator, where the bias correction is based on approximating the finite sample bias by a lower bound. This estimator is computationally very simple. It is compared with previously proposed corrected least squares estimators, where the correction aims at removing the asymptotic bias or the exact finite sample bias. For each type of corrected least squares estimators we consider the theoretical form, which depends on an unknown parameter, as well as various feasible forms. An analytical comparison of the theoretical estimators is complemented by a Monte Carlo study evaluating the performance of the feasible estimators. The new estimator proposed in this paper proves to be superior with respect to the mean squared error.  相似文献

The paper discusses methods of estimating univariate ARIMA models with outliers. The approach calls for a state vector representation of a time-series model, on which we can then operate on using the Kalman filter. One of the additional advantages of Kalman filter operating on the state vector representation is that the method and code could easily be adapted to be applicable to the ARIMA model with missing observations. The paper investigates ways to calculate robust initial estimation of the parameters of the ARIMA model. The method proposed is based on the results obtained by R.D. Martin (1980).  相似文献

We consider Bayesian inference techniques for agent-based (AB) models, as an alternative to simulated minimum distance (SMD). Three computationally heavy steps are involved: (i) simulating the model, (ii) estimating the likelihood and (iii) sampling from the posterior distribution of the parameters. Computational complexity of AB models implies that efficient techniques have to be used with respect to points (ii) and (iii), possibly involving approximations. We first discuss non-parametric (kernel density) estimation of the likelihood, coupled with Markov chain Monte Carlo sampling schemes. We then turn to parametric approximations of the likelihood, which can be derived by observing the distribution of the simulation outcomes around the statistical equilibria, or by assuming a specific form for the distribution of external deviations in the data. Finally, we introduce Approximate Bayesian Computation techniques for likelihood-free estimation. These allow embedding SMD methods in a Bayesian framework, and are particularly suited when robust estimation is needed. These techniques are first tested in a simple price discovery model with one parameter, and then employed to estimate the behavioural macroeconomic model of De Grauwe (2012), with nine unknown parameters.  相似文献
