Update： Preparation Briefing Meeting for Shanghai World Expo

On March 9, the preparation briefing meeting for Shanghai World Expo was held in Beijing. Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng, CCPIT Chairman Wan Jifei, Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Jieyi and three deputy directors of Shanghai World Expo Organizing Committee addressed the meeting.     

Shanghai Expo Updates： Preparation Progress Reported to the State Council

On February 11, Premier Wen Jiabao hosted the executive meeting of the State Council, where preparation progress of the Shanghai Expo was reported. Wang Jinzhen, Vice Chairman of CCPIT, Member of the Shanghai World Expo National Organizing Committee and Executive Deputy Director of the Liai-son Group of the Shanghai World Expo National Organizing Committee, at-tended the meeting.

The number of participating countries and international organizations to the Shang- hai World Expo in 2010 has reached 172, overtaking the previous record held by Germany's Hanover,an official in charge of the event said on October 16 during the ongoing 17th National Con- gress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Officials with the Bureau of International Expositions （BIE） hailed Expo Shanghai Online as a ＂revolutionary landmark practice＂ at the 146th BIE conference in Paris on November 24.Thumbs up for the virtual version of the real Expo also came from representatives present at the conference after the organizer delivered a report and broadcast a video on the program.

Aggregation analysis of exhibitions held in Beijing Shanghai and Guangzhou
Based on the statistics of exhibitions held in the major venues of the three cities, a total of 837 exhibitions were staged in 2009 in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, with a decrease of 29 compared to that in 2008. As shown in the Figure, the most exhibitions have been organized in Shanghai, with a total of 369, accounting for 44% of all exhibitions; followed by Beijing, where 253 exhibitions have taken place, accounting for 30%; and the least is Guangzhou, where 215 exhibitions have been held, accounting for the remaining 26%.
