Romania A Beautiful Land Beyond Your Dream

Location Romania is situated in the southeastern part of Central Europe and shares borders with Hungary to the northwest, Yugoslavia to the southwest, Bulgaria to the south, the Black Sea and Ukraine to the southeast and to the north and the Republic of Moldova to the east. Roughly the size of Oregon, Romania is the second largest country in the area, after Poland.     

Improving Attitude toward Corporate Strategy with Visual Mapping： Scale Development and Application in Europe and China

Companies operating across borders face greater challenges in ensuring compliance with company strategy in different cultural contexts. Recent research shows the cognitive and emotional benefits of utilizing visual representations of knowledge in organizations. This study aims to test if mapping a corporate strategy visually can improve attitudes toward firm strategy and the intention to comply with it. An experiment is conducted comparing two knowledge maps to a textual version of the same company strategy. In order to measure attitudes toward the strategy, a scale was developed and tested in Europe and China. The study outcome provides a parsimonious and effective tripartite scale of attitude with cognitive, affective and behavioral components. The scale was then applied to a different sample to test the effect of mapping a company strategy visually on attitude toward the strategy, and to test if the effect is persistent in Europe and China. The results of the experiment show that subjects exposed to the visual conditions had significantly more positive affective and cognitive attitudes toward the content.     

Protectionism, Futile to Crisis

With a deepening economic crisis and rising calls for public assistance in sectors ranging from finance to autos, there are also signs of growmg nervousness about the dangers of protectionism. The real worry is excessive use of antidumping, countervailing duty, and safeguard protection, misguided public subsidies, rising protection in the poorest countries, and temptation in the US Congress to violate existing treaty commitments. In order to shift the burden of the crisis on to trading partners to the highest possible extent, the trading powers of both the 1930s and the 1980s relied on the in- strument of protectionism and thus on the walling-off of their own markets. These trends can also be discerned in the current financial crisis.

On March 26, 2009 Economic and Social Survey of Asia and Pacific 2009 titled with ＂Addressing Triple Threats to Development＂ was released in Beijing. It analyzes the three global crises which have converged to threaten development in the Asia-Pacific region： the financial crisis, fuel and food prices, and climate change. Dr. Alberto Isgut of ESCAP＇s Macroeconomic Policy and Development Division, expressed the fact that due primarily to the performance of China, as well as India, aggregate growth in Asia and the Pacific will remain higher than in other global regions, helping to make the Asia-Pacific region the locus of global growth in 2009.
