Structural Restriction in the Development of China＇s Financial Industry

After China‘s accession to the WTO, the main problem China now faces in its financial development is how to enhance international competitiveness while safeguarding financial security. Since reform and opening up, the development of China‘s financial industry has featured extensive quantitative expansion, but without sufficient consideration given to increased risk. This has led to serious defects in the financial structure, which has hampered the financial industry from further development and from improving its international competitiveness. All these have had unfavorable impacts on financial stability and security.Therefore, in developing China ‘s financial industry, the stubborn pursuit of growth in quantity is inadvisable. What is needed is to change this way of thinking and to promote reform and development of the financial industry with emphasis on structure improvement,and to seek a way of development that can raise international competitiveness, while at the same time ensuring financial security.     

The Development of China＇s Electronics Industry： Causes and Constraints

The development of China‘s electronics industry can be attributed to supportive government policies, strong domestic market demand and the opportunities provided by the international transfer of technology in the electronic manufacturing sector. China‘s enterprises can only continue to develop through technological upgrading due to the lack of core technologies of their own. Since this process is still ongoing, China has not become a competitive country in the field of electronic technology. As a country in transition, government initiatives designed to encourage the development of the electronics industry have also undergone changes in line with economic institutional reform. Direct government intervention policies have been gradually replaced by indirect regulatory policies and the market is playing a more and more important role in the electronics industry.     

On the Feasibility of Early-age English learning

Children's English learning in China attracts more and more people's attention and is on the tendency of starting at an early age. Under the trend of "learning English from childhood", the author has explored the Critical Period Hypothesis and discussed the younger learners' disadvantages and older learners' advantages when learning English. and concludes that early-age English learning is not feasible.     

internationalization Strategies for China＇s Construction Enterprises

China＇s accession to WTO brings about fresh opportunities for China＇s contractors to further participate in the international contracting market. Meanwhile, China＇s local market will also further be opened up to the external contractors. That means the competition will be fiercer. In comparison with their foreign counterparts, China＇s construction enterprises have comparatively low competitive ability. Therefore, the author tries to analyze the influence factors that prevent the development of China＇s construction enterprises. And then a number of strategic measures have been discussed in this paper in order to strengthen the core competence of the enterprises, such as talents recruiting, capital management, cost control, innovation of management means and strengthening cooperation and recombination, etc.     

Study on China＇s Logistics Industry in the Information Era

In the information era, China＇s logistics industry faces a development opportunity, as well,as an austere challenge. In order to establish a reasonable strategy in China, it is very important to analyze the logistics industry＇s operation circumstances with a global and informational perception. For this reason, this article analyzes the current situation of China＇s logistics industry, identifies the existing problems, and further finds the possible solutions in present China.

An Analysis of Southeast Asian Firms＇ Investment in China

Economic cooperation between China and Southeast Asian economies is increasingly attracting the attention of policy-makers, scholars, and practitioners. Firms from Southeast Asia have been playing an important role in China‘s utilization of foreign direct investment, though most of these firms have been viewed as small, labor-intensive, and ordinary in technology. This paper reveals one important dimension of economic cooperation between China and Southeast Asia. It investigates the factors that influence Southeast Asian firms‘ investments in Guangdong, which is one of the largest provinces in China in terms of utilization of foreign direct investment, and it tries to answer the question of what make Southeast Asian firms invest in China in a large scale and in the way of advancing waves.T he research outcomes contribute to the knowledge of the changing economic relations between China and Southeast Asia.     

New Conglomerates and the Ecosystem Advantage

It is the purpose of this paper to explore the emergence of a new form of web-based company and how the new organisational form is able to access multiple-markets and industries by exploiting the benefits of a platform ecosystem business model. Internet-based companies such as Amazon, Google, Facebook, and Apple were referred to as the ＂Gang of Four＂ in May, 2011, by Eric Schmidt, Executive Chairman of Google. These 21st century companies are leading an internet-based consumer revolution which is having a disruptive impact on a broad range of industries and markets. Using their platform-based ecosystems, the internet-based corporations are able to leverage these core competencies and enter industries that appear unrelated to their core businesses. This has given rise to a new form of conglomerate business model that contrasts with the Western industrial conglomerates of the 1960s and early 1970s. Most of these corporations were broken-up in the early 1980s and the remaining core businesses resorted to focused strategies. The paper also analyses why the new internet-based firms do not follow the positioning school of strategy and seek monopolistic rents--profits arising from market power--by locating in attractive industries. Instead, these firms leverage core competencies and achieve Ricardian economic rents--profits arising from superior resources--through strategies of stretch and leverage. By adopting a core competency tree configuration, a core competency platform is leveraged which allows the internet-based firms to enter multiple markets using asset-light business models. This new form of competitive advantage is based on having a superior ecosystem that uses data as the key resource instead of capital; capital being the main resource underpinns the success of the traditional Western conglomerates of the 1960s and early 1970s.     

Energy Restructuring in China： Retrospects and Prospects

Thirty years have passed since China first adopted the policy of reform and opening up to the outside. Reviewing and appraising the advantages and disadvantages of the government＇s energy restructuring policy in the intervening years is of great importance to the consideration of future reform and opening-up efforts in this industry. Energy production and supply have been a major part of the national economic restructuring. In this paper, the author proceeds from three angles to review and assess the reform and opening-up efforts in the energy industry, and suggests some direction and priorities for its restrueturing in the future.     

A Study on Service Quality Improvement of Property Management in China

This paper analyses the service quality level of property management in China and the relationship between the improvement of service quality and the obtaining profit ability for a property management enterprise. It is very important for property management industry＇s development. Moreover, based on an analysis of key factors to service quality, a continuous quality improvement approach for China＇s property management is proposed, and some useful quality improvement tools and methods involved in this approach are briefly addressed, which can promote the service quality of whole property management industry in China.     

Selection of Chinese State-owned Firms＇ External Development Strategy：M＆A or Strategic Alhance？

This paper comprehensively compares two expansion strategy manners of firms, and analyses the advantages and disadvantages of M＆A and strategic alliance respectively. Combining with the state-owned firms reforming waves, the author points out that M＆A as external development strategy of state-owned firms is better than strategic alliance.     

Factors Influencing FDI Location Choice in China＇s Inland Areas

Since 1978, the bulk of foreign direct investment （FDI） has gone to the south-eastern coastal areas in China, with only a small portion received inland. With the launch of the Western Development Strategy in 2000 and the Central China Rising Strategy in 2004, the choice of investment locations has expanded to inland areas. Based on panel data covering 98 inland cities from 1999 to 2005, this study identifies location preference variables for FDI invested in China＇s inland areas, and finds that well-established factors such as natural resources and low labor costs are not important factors in determining FDI locations within China＇s inland. Instead, policy incentives and industrial agglomeration are the most important factors. The findings of the present study have policy implications for both host country authorities and multinational corporations.     

Issues on Future of Offshoring and Global Sourcing

In recent years, outsourcing strategies have undergone a profound evolution, moving from being a pure make or buy tactical decision to becoming part of strategy. By tradition, firms originally considered outsourcing as a solution to short-term problems, such as a sudden or unexpected increase in demand, an interruption in plant or equipment functioning, or the launch of a new product. Today firms consider outsourcing as a network of stable agreements with specialized suppliers as part of a long-term strategic perspective. The tendency is to attain offshoring and global sourcing. However, researchers are unanimous in recognizing that there are many obstacles to adopting a long-term outsourcing and offshoring strategies. They have also been heavily criticized by governments （the U.S. and Europe in particular） as recognized as a cause of further weakening national economies. Recently, some studies and research found that the large multinational corporations, mainly in the United States, are moving their production back or considering it such a strategic decision in the near future. So what is the future for offshoring and global sourcing？     

Yangzhou harbor developmental strategy study based on scenario planning

Based on the introduction of Scenario Planning Theory and the environmental analysis of the Yangzhou Harbor Logistics Park, the development strategy for the Park is discussed. Combining the advantages of the Yangzhou Harbor and Yangzhou Export Processing Zone, a new development pattern is designed. Under this pattern, an interactive integration strategy among Logistics Park, Harbor, Export Processing Zone and Tax Reservation Section is proposed. This strategy is called Radiation Promoting Developmental Strategy.     

Does Foreign Direct Investment Affect the Growth of Local Firms？ The Case of China＇s Electrical and Electronics Industry

Does foreign direct investment(FDI) into developing countries affect the growth of local firms in host countries? Using a dataset of 38 sectors in China’s electrical and electronics industry,in this paper,we analyze whether FDI has a positive effect on local firms,with technology spillovers,added value and increasing total factor productivity,or a negative, market stealing,effect.Estimating the relationship between growth of local firms and investment of foreign firms,our results show that FDI is likely to have a negative impact on the growth of local firms in sectors with large disparities in technology and less experience in business.Therefore,local firms lacking in technology need to find markets with no competition from foreign firms or determine strategies to compensate technology disparities.

The impact of innovation on export behavior： An empirical analysis of Lao garment firms

Research on the role of innovation as important factor for creating and maintaining competitiveness of nations and firms has long been popularized among scholars and policy makers. The impact of innovation on exporting has been investigated in many countries. However, this issue has paucity of research in the Lao PDR. This study empirically investigates whether or not innovation performed by Lao garment firms determines their exporting behaviors. Utilizing the Probit and Tobit regression to analyze the data from the recent survey of industrial cluster development of Lao garment industry in 2007, the empirical results show that innovation as measured directly by “new product” and “new production process” have positive impact not only on export probability but also export intensity in the case of Lao garment firms. This implies that Lao garment finns who become the innovators have high probability to be exporters. Moreover, among exporters who are innovators outperform non-innovators in terms of export intensity. In addition, this study also finds that Lao garment exporters enjoy more competitive advantage due to lower labor cost. The findings from this study have important policy implications regarding how the government can support Lao garment firms to be innovators in order to sustain export performance.     

Research on CRM Strategy Implementation of Banking in China

With China entry into WTO and opening of the financial markets, banking industry will be sure to be faced with drastic competition from foreign banks that have apparent competitive advantages Over native banks in such aspects as capital, technology, operation, management and innovation. Especially, they have abundant experience in CRM. Up till now, native banks are in their first step on implementing CRM. To establish competitive advantage, native banks must change their operation idea and reinforce the construction of CRM. This paper analyzes CRM implementation characteristics of banking in China, put forward a new CRM strategy system of banking in China, and then points out some problems deserve attention in bank＇s CRM implementation

With China＇s entry into WTO and the globalization of the market economy, changing the old management mode of administration of Chinese employer＇s organization as soon as possible and building the function mode of modem market mechanism have already, become the urgent task of China＇s economic reform and development. Analysis on Development Strategy of China＇s Commercial Street： A Case Study of Hangzhou City

China is arranging a boom of commercial street development across the country and Hangzhou works as an outstanding example. Commercial street economy is boosting China＇s urbanization and industry prosperity. Concerning on the rapid and sound development of commercial street in China, this paper introduces many problems and conflicts that block domestic commercial street development. With the guidances of China Commercial Walking Street Committee and Hangzhou Bureau of Economy and Trade, data analysis by Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Statistics, and case study of commercial streets in Hangzhou, the paper states that commercial street development beyond China＇s socialism economic system should follow the guidance of scientific outlook on development, insist on government-led and market-driven, design first and service-oriented, and highlight core feature and comprehensive facility. Also, it is essential to unify and ensure legal status of management committee, and streamline organizational structure, balance between interest groups, weaken conflicts of public and private, and promote industry association development and privately-operated public affairs to ensure sustainable development of commercial street, which will truly benefit domestic urbanization as well as improve people＇s material and cultural life. For the other developing countries in the urgent progress of industrialization and urbanization, the paper is expected to be guidelines.
