Summary Results are given of a sampling study of the sensitivities of two statistical procedures viz. the D'A gostino and the W ilk -S hapiro test of normality. Four alternative distributions were considered. For 5 small sample sizes the test of D'A gostino seems to be clearly dominated by the W ilk -S hapiro test for each of the 4 alternatives. For sample size n = 100 the recently developed approximate W ilk -S hapiro test seems to dominate the D'A gostino test for the U -shaped distribution; however, little can be said about the difference in power of these two tests for the other 3 alternatives. Random samples generated from the standard normal distribution showed the degree of approximation of the percentiles of each test procedure to be good.  相似文献

Summary The approach of Epps and Pulley (1983) based on the empirical characteristic function is one of the most powerful tools for detecting any departures from normality. We obtain the first four moments of the limiting null distribution of the Epps-Pulley Statistic. Johnson- and Pearson curve fitting yields excellent approximations to simulated quantiles, and by modifying the test statistic the procedure may be carried out easily without the use of extensive tables for all sample sizes. The management of the work-force in businesses has (re-)appeared in the last decade as a true problem for social science. Two dominant approaches have emerged: one that considers that a transition towards ‘a flexibleworkforce management’ is taking place and the other that analyses this transition as a move towards a new kind of management called ‘Human Resource Management’. But both approaches are suspect from a sociological point of view. Even a cursory perusal of the social science literature suffices to show the prevalence of dichotomous thinking. Many of these dichotomies deal with some aspect of the “conceptual versus empirical” distinction. This paper shows that while dichotomies predominate for some reason, the actual research process that they are designed to represent deals minimally with three separate and necessary levels. We term these the conceptual level (X), the empirical level (X′), and the operational or indicator level (X″). This minimal three level model is applied to an analysis of philosophical foundations of measurement, specifically the formulations of Northrop and Bridgman. It is shown that both of these formulations are essentially dichotomous, while the phenomena they deal with are trichotomous. For example, Northrop's “concepts by postulation” and “concepts by intuition” are purportedly separate levels connected by an epistemic correlation. Application of the three level model reveals that both are true concepts, and thus belong on the same level of analysis (X). Similarly, application of the three level model to Bridgman's formulation shows that both mental and physical concepts belong on the same level (X). Bridgman's formulation is valuable in pointing out that operations are not restricted to one level of analysis, and in fact we see them to be crucial on all three levels. The three level model is not a panacea, but does provide an efficacious framework for the difficult but important task of analyzing the philosophical underpinning of measurement.  相似文献

There is no industry where firms link their search for competitive advantage more closely to intellectual property (IP) than those in the pharmaceutical industry. Yet a major paradigm change is occurring in this industry. New technological developments are increasingly being driven by advances in biology, nanotechnology, and the computational sciences. In this paper, we investigate how this radical change in the investigation, discovery, and manufacture of pharmaceuticals has affected intellectual property management practices.Large pharmaceutical firms, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and public institutional knowledge generators have recently started to respond by developing new IP management techniques born from the use of consortia to manage the complexities of knowledge generation. Hence, we leverage innovation and knowledge management literature, and use the innovation journey and case study methodologies to investigate both traditional pharmaceutical IP practices as well as emerging strategies. We distil from this effort an IP model—the transition point model—designed to assist firms to effectively manage both knowledge assets and the associated intellectual property in the current paradigm.  相似文献

This study focuses on how ideas of ‘digitalization’ are discursively constructed in the Swedish steel industry. Using a discursive psychology approach, we identify seven interpretative repertoires in the discursive practicing of digitalization: everyone-else, speed, competition, job loss, control, safety, and equality. Examining their functions and effects, we show that not only is digital transformation constructed as more productive, efficient, competitive, technologically advanced, safe, and equal, it also involves a shift towards the blue-collar worker being more vulnerable; a construction where she is able-minded but lonely, physically fragile, obtuse and unreliable, and a victim of a development beyond her control, forcing of her to acquire new competence. We conclude that this reproduces asymmetrical power relations between workers and companies, pushing the challenges of digital transformation to the workers. At the same time, we also see how these local discourses hold a possibility of tempering this asymmetry through the construct of togetherness of different contexts, bodies, and hierarchal levels, thus connecting steel industry workers of the future through the use of digital technology.  相似文献

已有研究揭示共享城市是一种正在走向实现的人类文明智慧和可持续发展观紧密结合的理想城市新范式,但目前也存在负效应探讨不足,以及作为城市整体的实践机制研究不足的缺失.在对共享城市概念推动的国内外代表案例进行梳理分析基础上,总结出当前人们主要运用政策制定、空间设计和活动策划的手段,促使城市的实物、空间、服务和技术资源产生更深层次的连接与使用,为城市问题创造更有效率和具有可持续发展潜力的解决方案.综上提出三方面的前瞻性思考:一是建立充分共享的规划空间认识,从空间盲目扩张和功能一刀切的旧发展方式转变为对有限空间资源的精细化经营;二是填补约治共享的规划管理空白,限制共享经济的非理性空间扩张与负面影响,从制度层面建立新兴共享空间的监管机制;三是创新激活共享的规划设计策略,在城市开发中创造更多共享可能的城市空间资源,在城市修补中创造更加紧密交往的居民社会网络.  相似文献
