Despite extensive research on internationalization, little attention has been paid on dynamic capabilities within the realm of marketing and supply chain management in relation to internationalization of firms. To address this gap, we theoretically address the internationalization of emerging economy firms to developed economies from the integrative perspective of marketing and supply chain management, adopting dynamic capabilities and institutional theories as theoretical bases. We theoretically analyze the relationships between marketing and supply chain capabilities and institutional pressures and advance a framework for the internationalization of emerging economy firms to developed economies. We argue that marketing and supply chain capabilities can positively influence both supply chain learning, which could be pivotal to succeed and survive in developed economies, and conformance to institutional pressures that emerging economy firms are likely to face while internationalizing to developed economies.  相似文献

In this article, the author empirically examines export barriers Tanzanian firms encounter in attempting to initiate and/or expand export activities and the strategies they use for overcoming these barriers. Based on a social network perspective, the research hypothesizes that firms exploiting diverse networks should normally encounter fewer export barriers. Using a survey dataset collected from 122 manufacturing firms, the findings support the notion that networking reduces export barriers. More specifically, exploiting a large number of strong ties relative to weak ties, and a large number of institutional ties relative to business ties, can substantially enhance firms’ capabilities of overcoming barriers to exporting. In light of these findings, implications for policy, research, and practices are discussed.  相似文献

This article builds on existing international business literature that examines the drivers of cross‐border mergers and acquisitions (M&As) within emerging and developing economy contexts, theoretically exploring how dynamic capabilities (DCs) are connected to these drivers, and how African emerging multinational enterprises (EMNEs) can pursue them to achieve competitiveness. The article's contribution is the development of a DC framework and testable propositions for African EMNEs' cross‐border M&As. The theoretical framework shows the division of DC dimensions—sensing, seizing, and transforming—and establishes explanations for their linkage with institutional and resource drivers for African EMNEs' cross‐border M&A competitiveness. In addition, the article outlines managerial implications to this effect. Overall, the article contributes to the emerging literature on the international expansion of African EMNEs through cross‐border M&As by underscoring the role of DCs.  相似文献

During the last decade, social innovation has emerged as an outstanding topic for scholars, businesses, and public institutions. This growing interest is due to its potential positive effects on well-being and sustainable development. This study analyzes social innovation under the umbrella of the transformative service research framework. Adopting a resource-based perspective, the research attempts to determine whether the deployment in service organizations of two types of factors that support dynamic capabilities, i.e. internal market orientation, and information and communication technology competence, impacts the extent to which these organizations develop different kinds of product, process, marketing, and organizational social innovations. The study also assesses the impact of these innovation activities on the organization's transformational performance in terms of increased access to new targets. Empirical research is based on a two-step survey to a sample of Spanish nonprofits (particularly, a representative sample of foundations), since the nonprofit sector provides services that possess inherent transformational characteristics. Results confirm the expected positive effects of these two factors on social innovation and performance, and provide several guidelines for implementing social innovations in service industries.  相似文献

本文采用2004~2007年制造业上市公司的数据考察了机构投资者对企业国际化的影响。研究发现,机构投资者的持股对制造业企业的国际化有促进作用;并且不同类型的机构投资者的作用并不相同,其中基金和QFII有显著的促进作用。这些研究结果表明机构投资者积极主义在我国制造业上市公司中有所体现,机构投资者持股有利于我国制造业企业的国际化,实施"走出去"战略。本文基于以上结论,对我国发展不同类型的机构投资者提出了相应的建议。  相似文献

The research fields of dynamic capabilities and strategic entrepreneurship have developed concurrently but separately. This study aims to bridge the gap in research on the underlying linkage between the two independent areas, both of which are critical for firms to sustain competitiveness in changing industrial environments. Drawing upon insights from the integrated perspective of hierarchical dynamic capabilities, strategic entrepreneurship, and environmental dynamics, an explicit theoretical framework is put forward to achieve a better understanding of the ways through which hierarchical dynamic capabilities promote strategic entrepreneurship. Moreover, through the proposed theoretical lens, this study further explores the detailed mechanisms of how first-order and second-order dynamic capabilities improve strategic entrepreneurship with regard to uncertainty of market conditions.  相似文献

This study draws upon the institutional-based view to examine how home country institutional voids affect the corporate social performance (CSP) of emerging market multinational corporations (EMNCs). We propose that home country institutional voids of EMNCs are positively related to CSP. We also argue that EMNCs' internationalization and visibility will further augment the above relationships. We tested our hypotheses using a sample of 89 EMNCs from 10 countries from 2009 to 2018 and found support for our arguments. Our findings show that EMNCs use CSP to overcome the liabilities of origin due to their home-country institutional voids. Internationalization and visibility increase the challenges of origin liabilities and EMNCs respond by enhancing their CSP. Our research adds to the existing knowledge base on institutional voids within the realm of international business.  相似文献

While researchers have conceptualized both dynamic and substantive capabilities in a variety of ways, there are still no established measures for either dynamic or substantive capabilities. Although learning has been referred to as a specific type of process underlying the evolution and development of dynamic capabilities, the deep connection between dynamic capabilities and organizational process research has not yet been adequately explored. There is a need for conceptualization and operationalization of these different aspects of the learning process. In this paper, we address these gaps in the literature by drawing upon concepts from the organizational learning, marketing and strategic management fields to understand better and define dynamic and substantive capabilities concepts. First, we define dynamic and substantive capabilities and form a theoretical foundation for their conceptualization. We then develop and test specific item measures for each construct. Our findings support our conceptualization and measurement of both these important aspects of organizational performance.  相似文献

We introduce the SAPSaC model to see how relationship characteristics influence the implementation and outcomes of a specific type of inter-organization information system—electronic data interchange (EDI). Using a relational exchange perspective, we examine the effects of interfirm system characteristics, target firm capabilities, and initiator assistance, on project outcomes. We explore effects of three system characteristics—relationalism, dependence, and tenure on initiator assistance. System characteristics and assistance are hypothesized to affect outcomes—project performance, satisfaction, and commitment to the relationship. We consider the target's task readiness an additional determinant of initiator assistance and performance. Using sample survey data from firms in the housewares industry, we find that initiator assistance stems from relationalism, not tenure. From the target's perspective, project performance derives from relationalism and tenure. Satisfaction is driven by relationalism, tenure, assistance, and performance. Commitment comes from relationalism, dependence, and satisfaction. A multi-industry study successfully replicates most of the results.  相似文献

This paper aims to contribute to our understanding of the antecedents to sustainable competitive advantage by integrating insights from the perspectives of both marketing and strategic management. This approach is innovative because it focuses on synergistic insights from different management fields, and contributes to our understanding of how firm performance may be affected, both directly and indirectly, by the marketing and learning orientations of the firm, as well as by the capabilities it develops as a result of the learning processes informed by these orientations. To achieve this aim we start by reviewing the literature in the fields of both marketing and strategic management to examine the current trends, limitations and commonalities between these fields. We then propose a conceptual model and propositions that can help link these two fields into an integrative framework. Our model portrays both direct and mediated effects, and highlights the mediating role of learning processes in understanding how marketing and learning orientations might influence a firm's dynamic and substantive capabilities.  相似文献

Senior managers in emerging markets often strive to ensure that their companies develop sufficient capabilities to confront the needs they encounter in international markets. However, extant research and practice remain unclear as to how senior managers in emerging market companies can approach assessing the needs of their international markets against their own company's capabilities, to aim for a balance between both. This article offers an innovative approach for assessing the needs of international markets against an emerging market company's capabilities. Based on the assessments of 100 senior managers leading emerging market companies, we explain how this approach can provide two key insights. First, evidence of a balance between the needs of international markets and an emerging market company's capabilities, that indicates the company's competitive position is focused; or evidence of an imbalance between the needs of international markets and an emerging market company's capabilities, that indicates the company's competitive position is either vulnerable or overqualified. Second, an understanding of where the gaps between the needs of international markets and an emerging market company's capabilities are, that enables improving the company's competitive position by closing these gaps. Drawing on this approach, we offer an open access tool that allows senior managers in emerging markets to identify and improve their own company's competitive position for internationalization. Using this tool, senior managers can lead their emerging market companies toward a focused competitive position in international markets, providing better chances of successfully capturing potential benefits.  相似文献

风险投资长期以来被视为是一项高度本土化的行为,但是近年来越来越多的风投机构开始走出国门进行远距离的跨境投资。这一现象引起了学者们的极大兴趣,许多学者开始致力于考察跨境风险投资的动因,即为什么本土化特征如此明显的风险资本开始热衷于进行跨越国境的远距离投资。尽管相关研究近几年才刚刚开始,但已迅速成为学术研究的热点。文章从国家环境因素、社会网络和风投机构主体因素三个层次,对风险投资国际化影响因素的最新文献进行了梳理和评述,并在此基础上对未来研究进行了展望。  相似文献

The growth of the Atlantic economy during the eighteenth century has been associated with developments in business networking to mitigate the hazards of communication in long-distance trade. Such social capital-based mechanisms reduced transaction costs, but also proved to have their limitations in the changing conditions of eighteenth-century international trade. This paper argues, using the example of the British slave trade, that efforts to innovate less personalised forms of commercial exchange gave those prepared to do so a considerable competitive advantage, and promoted the unprecedented expansion of that trade between 1750 and 1807. We suggest that this shift may be viewed as a precursor of modernising tendencies in business practice in Britain during the industrial revolution.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Privatization is a complex phenomenon that can be viewed as a transformational strategy and a frame-breaking event. We focus on the resource based view as the driver in trade sale privatization, and we extend the concept into collaborative networks, in which the acquiring firm, the other network participants and the firm being privatized all contribute resources that enable the combined entity to gain a competitive advantage. We offer six framing propositions and provide empirical evidence from a field study of Telmex, the privatized Mexican telecommunications firm.

RESUMEN. La Privatización es un fenómeno complejo que puede considerarse una estrategia de transformación, y un acontecimiento que rompe los marcos existentes. En este estudio enfocamos nuestro análisis en una perspectiva basada en que el recurso es un impulsor de la privatización a través de la venta de negocios, y ampliamos el concepto hasta incluir a las redes colaborativas mediante las cuales la empresa adquirente, la otra red participante y la empresa que está siendo privatizada contribuyen con recursos en unísono, que permiten que la entidad combinada adquiera una ventaja competitiva. Ofrecemos seis propuestas marco y pruebas empíricas de un estudio de campo de Telmex, la empresa mexicana de telecomunicaciones privatizada.

RESUMO. A privatização é um fenômeno complexo que pode ser visto como uma estratégica de transformação e um evento de quebra de parâmetros. Concentramo-nos na visão resource-based como força motriz da privatização, e estendemos o conceito para networks colaborativas, nas quais a empresa compradora, os outros participantes da rede e a firma que está sendo privatizada, todos contribuem com recursos que capacitam a entidade combinada resultante a ganhar uma vantagem competitiva. This study explores which networks are beneficial for gaining resources for firms' internationalization. Little is known about firms' use of organizational, personal, and intermediary networks to gain access to resources for internationalization. Firms are seeking resources through their organization's relationships (organizational networks) and individuals' personal contacts (personal networks). Governmental and industry actors are implementing networks to promote international growth and act as an intermediary between business actors (intermediary networks). We conduct in‐depth interviews with firms and representatives for intermediary networks complemented with a survey. The findings reveal which resources are accessed through the different networks. We find organizational networks provide considerable access to most resources (except financial resources) that are beneficial for internationalization, whereas intermediary networks provide access to reputational, human, and market resources. Personal networks primarily provide access to human resources. This study contributes to theory by giving a more fine‐grained understanding of how different types of networks give access to different resources valuable for internationalization.  相似文献

Studying firms from emerging economies has been receiving more attention in recent decades. However, the host- and home-country perspectives have allowed understanding, to a significant extent, of the firms' expansion abroad. We argue the necessity of investigating the interaction of home and host-country institutional conditions to advance the understanding of the internationalization strategies of firms from emerging economies. Employing a sample of 1387 firms from 17 Latin American countries, we examine how their operations expanded from 2003 to 2019 by undertaking 2636 cross-border greenfield projects in 94 host countries. Results indicate that the interaction of home and host countries' weak institutional conditions drives the decision-making process for the internationalization of Latin American firms.  相似文献
