If You Have a Hammer,You Only Look for Nails: The Relationship Between the Einstellung Effect and Business Opportunity Identification

We use the theory of Einstellung to examine individual differences in business opportunity identification. Einstellung is the tendency to habitually rely upon existing cognitive frameworks even when they become redundant. This study examined the relationship between individuals' proclivity toward Einstellung and the number and innovativeness of business opportunities they identified. Our results suggest that the Einstellung effect was negatively related to the number as well as the innovativeness of opportunities people identified. These findings indicate that habitual reliance upon existing cognitive frameworks can sometimes have negative consequences for the critical entrepreneurial ability of opportunity identification.

The strategic cooperation framework agreement to build the cities of the middle reaches of the Yangtze Rivet was released at the conference held by the three provinces on Feb.10 in Wuhan,signifying the official start of establishing the new urban hub in Central China,China News Agency reported.

Electronic commerce and flexible manufacturing allow personalization of initially standardized products at low cost. Will customers provide the information necessary for personalization? Assuming that a consumer can control the amount of information revealed, we analyze how her decision interacts with the pricing strategy of a monopolist who may abuse the information to obtain a larger share of total surplus. We consider two scenarios, one where consumers have different tastes but identical willingness to pay and another with high and low valuation customers. In both cases full revelation may only result if the monopolist can commit to a maximum price before consumers decide about disclosure.

The EU institutions must diagnose the crisis that Brexit and Trump have brought to the fore as an economic crisis that is malleable to policy, and they must forcibly sell that diagnosis to the member states if they want to halt the further disintegration of the EU. Doing so would give member states room to experiment with locally appropriate policies rather than simply accept "one size fits none" policy rules. Such a diagnosis would be nothing less than an explicit political intervention by a supposedly technocratic set of institutions. But technocracies work best in good times, and these are not good times.     

“中国式财政分权”与全要素生产率:“竞次”还是“竞优”

本文揭示了“中国式财政分权”制度对区域全要素生产率(TFP)的影响作用是导致了TFP的“竞次”还是“竞优”.理论分析表明,“中国式财政分权”制度通过改变资源配置条件影响技术进步:当地方政府间的竞争通过市场开放、要素流动及基础设施改善的方式实现资源有效配置时,分权制度会促进技术进步,形成地区间“竞优”;当地方政府以分割市场等途径作为竞争手段时,会造成要素扭曲,分权制度则抑制了技术的进步,形成地区间“竞次”.实证结果表明,“中国式财政分权”制度显著改进了中国全要素生产率水平,但也会在一定程度上造成要素市场的扭曲进而不利于技术进步.进一步观察TFP的内部构成后得出,财政分权导致技术进步(TP)与技术效率(TE)呈现较为明显的“竞优”,但全要素生产率“竞优”正在弱化.
