The nutritional habits of consumers have become a cause for concern with an increasing number of people suffering from diseases related to nutrition. In Cyprus, traditionally the Mediterranean diet was consumed, which was protective against coronary heart disease. Recently the incidence of coronary heart disease is increasing and has become a cause for concern. The way in which food is prepared may contribute to the nutritional content of the diet. Traditional methods of cooking and eating are being influenced by increased ownership of domestic appliances. The aim of this study was to carry out a cross‐sectional survey of people living in Cyprus to determine the ownership and use of small kitchen appliances. An opportunistic sample of 300 female subjects was recruited. Data were collected using a self‐completion questionnaire consisting of questions concerning personal details, cooking techniques, and the ownership and use of domestic appliances. The Liverpool John Moores University Ethics Committee granted ethics approval for the study. The majority of Cypriots were found to spend more than 2 h cooking each day. Toasters, sandwich makers, kettles and juice makers were owned by over 75% and microwave ovens, food processors and blenders by over 50% of Cypriots. Those with a professional occupation were significantly more likely to own crepe and pancake makers, electric grills, coffee makers, blenders and food mixers (P < 0.05). There were no significant associations between age groups and ownership of any of the domestic appliances. The results indicated that a considerable number of Cypriots own and use small domestic kitchen appliances. The use of these appliances may contribute to a tendency for this population to move away from their traditional diet. The relationship between usage and nutrient intake remains to be investigated.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to find out what effects electronics have on the operating characteristics of household appliances, and to analyse the differences' in attitudes towards these between male and female groups. The study method used was an expert inquiry. The experts represented different fields involved with household appliances. Nearly all the respondents agreed that the use of electronics in household appliances is likely to increase. Men took a much more positive attitude toward the prospect of using more electronics than women and were additionally more willing to choose an electronic model than an electromechanical one. Men considered that electronics allowed the development of more versatile, changeable and automatic appliances; while women were more likely to value safety, reliability and ease of operation. Results indicate that electronic appliances do not comply with all user demands today and most users need more and more advice in buying and using modern appliances.  相似文献

This study aimed to carry out a cross sectional study of people living on Merseyside to determine the ownership and use of small kitchen domestic appliances in relation to the possible consequences the appliances may have on the nutrient intake of the individual. An opportunistic sample of 276 female adults aged 25–70 years was recruited from amongst university staff and community groups within Merseyside. Data were collected using a self‐completion questionnaire consisting of questions concerning personal details, the ownership and use of domestic appliances that may influence nutrient intake. The Liverpool John Moores University Ethics Committee granted ethical approval. Microwave ovens, electric toasters and grills were owned by 80% of the population. Coffee makers, handheld electric food mixers, sandwich makers, blenders and food processors although owned by over 45% were used by the majority only once a week or less. Newer items such as a bread maker were owned by 9% who were significantly more likely to have a professional occupation. Those with unskilled occupations were significantly more likely to own a deep fat fryer and least likely to own a food processor. Those aged 25–34 years were significantly least likely to own a handheld food mixer. Households comprised of couples with or without children were significantly more likely to own sandwich makers, bread makers, food processors and handheld food mixers. No difference in the use of the appliances was found with occupational group or age. A large percentage of people own a variety of domestic appliances, the use of which may have a beneficial effect on their nutrient intake, however, it is of concern that those in the lower socio‐economic group were more likely to own appliances that will have a negative effect on their diet.  相似文献

In this study, 270 women with different levels of education were investigated to determine energy-saving attitudes and the behaviour of women in the use of electrical household appliances. Their attitudes were measured by Likert-type sentences, and their behaviour by evaluating their answers to 33 questions that were oriented to energy saving. The effects of variables on attitudes and behaviour, such as number of individuals in the family, education level of the woman, length of marriage, employment status, family income and the number of electrical appliances were determined by analysis of variance. Effects of family income, education level of women, employment status and the number of electrical appliances on positive attitude, and effects of educational level of woman and employment status on positive behaviour were both found to be significant (P < 0.05).  相似文献

The paper examines relationships between multinational corporations and the unwaged work women do in their homes. It is argued that far from being a sanctuary, the home has become a dumpsite for unnecessary and unsafe products. Women in North America and the Third World are now dealing with health and safety issues in their neighbourhoods and households. Consciousness of these dangers has resulted in mobilization and the formation of alliances aimed at confronting multinationals and securing more government regulation. The experience of one group of women in a small Ontario community is described. Harriet Rosenberg is Assistant Professor in the Social Science Division at York University. 进入20世纪90年代后期,中国家电零售业取得了飞速发展,涌现了一大批大型家电连锁企业集团,成为中国连锁经营发展史上的新亮点.根据2002年度中国家电零售业销售额排名,位于家电销售额第一名的北京国美电器有限公司年销售额近120亿人民币,而位于第二、第三位的山东三联集团和江苏苏宁电器也接近90亿元规模.这样的销售业绩引起了人们对家电零售业极大的关注.本文将就以上三家家电零售企业为主体,初步分析和探寻国内大型家电零售企业的经营策略和发展趋势.  相似文献
