Examination of the effects of the relationship marketing orientation on the company performance

The research objective is to examine empirically the relationship marketing and its successful implementation in Turkish Beverage Companies. Three scales were used to generate the data. Relationship marketing scale, environmental factors scale and company performance scale. Some of the variables in questionnaire used as control variables that reflect company-specific characters namely, company size, business type and sales volume. First the main effect of relationship marketing orientation on company performance was assessed, and then the moderating effect of environmental factors on the relationship between relationship marketing orientation and company performance was estimated by using multivariate techniques.

Small company purchasing: A research agenda

The small company attracts increasing attention from academia. However, research on purchasing in small companies is still limited, despite the recognised dependence of small companies on external resources. At the same time small companies operate under circumstances that pose different purchasing challenges compared to the large firm. Hence, this article proposes a new research agenda on small company purchasing. A review of the purchasing and small company literatures demonstrates limited interest in this hybrid theme and few cross-literature synergies. In addition, the paper reports on 16 interviews with small company owners. These empirical data complement the theoretical review and provide a basis for formulating the research agenda. Nine research questions are derived from the investigation, emphasising supplier relationship management and the effects of owner behaviour on purchasing as promising future research areas.

Becoming empowered: organization change in a telecom company

The notion of empowerment has been used in the management discourse since at least the 1980s. As a normative model for the distribution of decision-making mandate and administrative and operative responsibilities, empowerment serves as a new shopfloor model or ideology for decentralized organizations of the new workplace. The practice of empowerment is, however, not very often empirically researched, causing a confusion about what empowerment implies in terms of shopfloor activities. This paper presents an extensive organization development programme at a Swedish telecommunication company. Rather than being an easily implemented model, empowerment appears as a complex, heterogeneous process in which the empowering of employees is embedded in local practices and workplace cultures.     

The effects of corruption on growth performance of the mena countries

This article aims at testing the effects of institutional characteristics on growth in countries of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. For this purpose we consider conditional convergence in terms of initial conditions, macroeconomic performance, trade openness, government size, natural resource abundance and institutional and political structures for a sample of 90 countries over the period 1960–2000. We use regional indicators and MENA-specific variables in order to test for the effects of each variable on the growth performance of the MENA economies. We highlight the direct and indirect impacts of both corruption and bureaucratic quality on the MENA growth compared to the other regions of the world.
