Based on China Household Finance Survey (CHFS) data, China’s Gini Coefficient stood at 0.61 in 2010, above the global average of 0.44, according to the World Bank. The high Gini Coefficient represents a large income disparity of the country. It is understandable that a high Gini is common in fast-growing economies and can be reduced through government’s transfer payments given the experience of OECD countries. This paper illustrates the breakdown of China’s Gini, regional, rural and urban differences in household income. Specifically, it is found that poor health, insufficient social welfare and low education level are the main reasons for poverty of rural households. This paper also provides solutions to reduce the Gini coefficient. In the short term, China government can invest more on social insurance and implement large-scale transfer payments. The figure shows that China government has sufficient financial sources to strengthen secondary distribution to subsidize the low-income group. In the long term, government can increase overall educational level and reduce the opportunity inequality to narrow the income gap.  相似文献

I use a static multi-sector, multi-labour, multi-household Applied General Equilibrium (AGE) model for Turkey to show that the trade policy implemented by Turkish policy-makers in the 1990s is not trade diverting. Aggregate welfare rises by 0.6% of the consumer income. Most importantly, since agriculture and traditional the rural income), while urban groups are worse off (-0.5% of the urban income). It is also shown that overall income inequality declines by 1.1-1.7%, and that its main source is the inter-income inequality between urban and rural areas, which decreases by 8.9- 14.7%. 笔者通过实证研究认为,拥有城镇户口显著地有利于劳动者进入高收入行业,造成城镇居民在收入和福利待遇方面比农村居民显著要高,户籍制度下的机会不平等是造成城乡居民收入差距的重要原因。同时,在控制了影响劳动者就业选择的控制变量的情况下,研究的主要结论依然稳健。研究的政策启示是应该继续改革户籍制度,努力消除户籍制度对劳动者就业选择的不利影响,进而不断缩小城乡收入差距,促进城乡和谐与均衡发展。  相似文献

A vast literature has related perceptions of income inequality to individuals' income: the higher the level of income, the less inequality is perceived. Here, examining the perceptions of income and social inequality, we argue that rural or urban residence affects both inequality perceptions and the impact of income on these perceptions. We test the theory using survey data from 12 Central and Eastern European countries and we find that income negatively affects inequality perceptions but only in urban areas. These findings confirm the importance of accounting for urbanity to understand what drives individuals' perceptions of inequality.  相似文献

基于1987年到2008年28个省的面板数据,本文发现:无论是以就业人数还是以总产值来度量,乡镇企业规模的扩大都显著地缩小了城乡收入差距。通过雇佣农村富余劳动力以及生产的工业品在城乡间的自由流动,乡镇企业的发展抵补了一部分由于劳动力流动限制而造成的社会福利的损失。然而,本文更为重要的发现是:与其利润率的变化趋势一致,乡镇企业缩小城乡收入差距的年度作用递减;并且,在1998年之后,其作用的估计值在零附近一个很小的区域内摆动。这说明城乡间的产品流动对于生产要素流动不充分的补偿作用可能已经发挥到了极致——在我国高度竞争的工业品市场上,位于农村的工业企业是没有优势的,因为它们缺乏城市工业的规模经济与集聚效应。本文的政策含义是:只有改革现有户籍制度、加强劳动力在城乡间的流动、培育完善的要素市场,而非继续鼓励农村工业化,才能进一步缩小城乡收入差距,并最终消除城乡二元结构。  相似文献

本文利用中国的数据对经济增长与收入分配的关系进行了经验分析。分析结果没有对库茨涅兹的"倒U型假说"给予足够的支持。中国农村内部、城镇内部和城乡之间的收入差距及其变化特点有其自身的特点,需要从经济发展因素、经济体制转型的因素和政策因素上加以解释。  相似文献

Although a large literature exists on finance and economic growth, few studies have empirically examined the relationship between finance and inequality. Using grouped national household sample survey data on monthly household consumption expenditure at the sub-national level for the years 1999–2000 to 2006–2007, we examine the relationship between Financial Development (FD) and rural and urban inequality in India. The results indicate that FD is associated with a reduction in inequality, but only in the urban areas. Further, inequality is found to be higher in the richer states compared to less developed and low income states, and as state income increases, inequality also increases both in the rural and urban areas. Finally, our results show that increase in population per bank branch leads to higher inequality in urban areas but decline in rural areas.  相似文献

本文采用1997-2009年面板数据的变截距及变系数模型,利用控制地区经济开放程度、产业结构变迁、城市化率等因素,对中国30个省市的制度变迁、地方政府支出决策与城乡收入差距之间的关系进行实证分析。结果显示:就全国而言,制度变迁、地方政府对经济活动的干预和地方政府投资性支出均与城乡收入差距呈正相关,而地方政府保障性支出则与城乡收入差距呈负相关;就地区而言,大部分地区在市场化过程中的制度变迁、地方政府投资性支出扩大了城乡收入差距,而半数以上的地区其政府支出规模及其内部保障性支出对城乡收入差距的缩小则有一定促进作用,但不同地区其影响呈现一定的差异性。其政策含义在于,我国在推进市场化进程的同时还要兼顾公平与效率,加强地方政府对收入不平等的调节作用,完善地方财政支出结构特别是社会保障体系,以此来缩小城乡收入差距。  相似文献

近年来,我国持续增加的城乡居民高储蓄率成为中国经济增长模式的典型特征,正确分析这一现象有利于我国进行合理的宏观调控。本文应用1996—2015年省级面板数据,采用广义最小二乘法,构建双向固定效应模型,研究劳动力转移率和城乡收入差距对城乡居民储蓄率的影响。实证研究发现,劳动力转移率和城乡收入差距对城乡居民储蓄率均有显著影响,其中对农村储蓄率的影响尤为明显。引入劳动力转移率和城乡收入差距的交叉项可以发现,通过提高劳动力流动过程中农村居民获取的非农收入,能有效弥补城乡收入不平衡。劳动力转移规模和转移速度共同通过收入差距的缩小对农村储蓄率存在间接影响机制。在此基础上,本文进一步提出完善公共基础设施和投资环境、缩小城乡收入差距的政策建议。  相似文献

Using a nationwide household income survey, different types of income in the People's Republic of China at the end of the 1980s is analysed. The results show that various income types play quite different roles in rural and urban areas. Subsistence income makes up about half of the total income in rural China. Money income makes up about two-thirds of total income in urban China and is the major contributor to inequality in the entire country. In kind income, of which highly subsidized housing is the single most important category, is highly concentrated in urban areas and contributes greatly to inequality.  相似文献

Based on the data of CGSS2013, we analyse the relationship between income inequality, corruption and subjective well being using an Ordered Probit model. Our results indicate that income inequality and corruption significantly reduces the subjective well-being of our country’s residents. Furthermore, corruption is an important channel for the negative effect of income inequality on subjective well-being, the impact of income inequality on subjective well-being is mainly achieved by the role of corruption. Specifically, the impacts vary according to hukou. Higher degree of income inequality indeed reduces the subjective well-being of urban residents, while it has a positive effect on subjective well-being of rural residents. Corruption has a significant negative impact on the subjective well-being of urban and rural residents. There is heterogeneity in the influence of different income levels in rural areas. The study in this paper shows that anti-corruption and narrowing the income gap are the two major grippers to improve the well-being of the residents.  相似文献

本文利用1988—2006年中国省级面板数据,采用动态面板数据估计了收入分配不平等对刑事犯罪率的影响。研究发现,控制跨省人口迁徙、福利支出、失业率等因素并作相关的稳健性检验以后,以基尼系数度量的收入分配不平等上升1个百分点,刑事犯罪率将至少上升0.185个百分点,并且收入不平等程度不断上升会导致政府增加福利支出以降低刑事犯罪率;城市化会导致刑事犯罪率上升;提高人力资本水平和增加福利支出都会对遏制犯罪发挥重要影响。  相似文献

We use the Vietnam Living Standards Surveys from 1993 and 1998 to examine inequality in welfare between urban and rural areas in Vietnam. Real per capita household consumption expenditure (RPCE) is our measure of welfare. We apply a quantile regression decomposition technique to analyze the difference between the urban and rural distributions of log RPCE. In the earlier survey, the urban–rural gap is primarily due to differences in covariates such as education, ethnicity, and age. This is true across the entire distribution. In the later survey, this is true only for lowest quantiles. For the rest of the distribution, the gap is primarily due to differences in returns to covariates between the urban and rural sectors.  相似文献

本文借鉴二元经济增长模型,分析了包容性金融发展与城乡居民收入差距的关系,并采用2011—2015年中国内地省级面板数据,运用面板数据模型和系统GMM模型对理论假设进行了实证检验。实证分析发现:(1)包容性金融发展对缩小城乡居民收入差距具有明显的促进作用;(2)传统银行的金融服务成本、互联网金融的数字支持服务程度对城乡居民收入差距的影响显著为负,这表明,包容性金融发展缩小城乡居民收入差距的直接作用主要是通过降低金融服务成本实现的;(3)传统银行金融包容性在缩小城乡居民收入差距方面的作用,东部比中西部更加明显,而互联网金融包容性对城乡居民收入差距的影响在中西部地区显著。据此,本文提出,应重视包容性金融发展的收入分配效应,以缩小我国城乡居民收入差距。  相似文献

A new general-equilibrium model that links together rural-to-urban migration, the externality effect of the average level of human capital, and agglomeration economies shows that in developing countries, unrestricted rural-to-urban migration reduces the average income of both rural and urban dwellers in equilibrium. Various measures aimed at curtailing rural-to-urban migration by unskilled workers can lead to a Pareto improvement for both the urban and rural dwellers. In addition, the government can raise social welfare by reducing the migration of skilled workers to the city. Moreover, without a restriction on rural-to-urban migration, a government's efforts to increase educational expenditure and thereby the number of skilled workers may not increase wage rates in the rural or urban areas.  相似文献

Taking advantage of consistent poverty and income inequality data for 12 Latin American countries between 1970 and 1994, we analyze the determinants of changes in the incidence of urban and rural poverty and in Gini coefficients over spells of years, stressing in particular the role of aggregate income growth. We find that income growth reduces urban and rural poverty but not inequality. We also find that income growth is more effective in reducing urban poverty if the levels of inequality and poverty are lower, and the levels of secondary education higher. We show that there is an asymmetry in the impact of growth on poverty and inequality, with recession having strong negative effects on both poverty and inequality. Since growth does not reduce inequality, economic cycles create ratchet effects on the level of inequality. However, post-structural adjustment growth is quite effective at reducing poverty, particularly if inequality is low.  相似文献

基于中国居民收入分配课题组(CHIPs)1988-2007年的住户调查数据,本文分析了中国福利体系的大小、结构及其再分配性质。本文发现,中国的福利体系仍然存在巨大的城乡分割,城市居民的社会福利更全面,福利收入更丰厚,其福利水平接近于一些西方发达国家;而农村的福利制度则不完善,福利收入非常微薄。同时,城市的福利收入体系尽管近几年的再分配作用有所减弱,但总体而言是累进的,有效降低了收入不平等。而农村的福利体系几乎对收入差距的缩小没有影响,但从2007年的结果来看,农村累退的福利体系开始向累进的方向转变。农民工的社会福利收入在2002-2007年间大幅度增加,并发挥了巨大的再分配作用。  相似文献
