Moreover, during this time, China has moved from a command economy guided by administrative decree to one which is largely market-oriented and is now the fourth-largest economy in the world. China to be World’s Largest Retail Market by 2018

E-commerce is becoming a focus for retailers and brand owners.China is expected to become the world’s largest retail market by 2018,though its retail’s growth rate is slowing,as revealed in a recent report by PwC.China retail’s growth rate has fallen from a peak of 15.6%in 2009,yet China remains irresistible to global retail chains.China is still expected to achieve average annual retail volume growth of 8.7%in the next two years.     

China in Overcapacity Exacerbating？

The problem of overcapacity has been plaguing China for years. Many economists claim that China＇s double-edged economic system of foreign trade and investment has resulted in a lack of consumption. It is estimated that approximately 35% of GDP depends solely on exports, some of which has naturally turned into excessive capacity due to the recent lack of external demand from western markets. Repeated build up in certain industries, which the government has failed to restrain, has resulted in prevailing overcapacity, and has also indirectly triggered the flood of anti-dumping cases against Chinese enterprises in recent years.
