Utility representation theorems for Debreu separable preorders

We prove the existence of arbitrary (resp., semicontinuous, continuous) utility representations for arbitrary (resp., semicontinuous, continuous) preorders satisfying some weakened Debreu order separability conditions. In this way we widely generalize a classical result for total preorders that essentially is due to Debreu.     

Elasticities of Substitution and Complementarity: A Synthesis

We derive the relationships between the net and gross elasticities of substitution and complementarity (i.e., the elasticities that refer either to the conditional or unconditional, direct or inverse demand system) in the general case of non-homothetic, variable-returns-to-scale technologies. We also show that the so-called Hicks Elasticity of Complementarity (Hicks, Oxford economic Papers 22, 289–296 (1970)) is dual to a full-fledged elasticity of gross input substitution that we call the Hotelling/Lau Elasticity of Substitution (Lau, Production Economics: A Dual Approach to Theory and Applications. Amsterdam: North-Holand (1978)). The former is, in fact, the proper elasticity of substitution in the case of the inverse, unconditional input demand. Our results should clarify some issues about the input substitutability classification.     

On Some Characteristics of Gaussian Covariance Functions

The concepts of isotropy/anisotropy and separability/non‐separability of a covariance function are strictly related. If a covariance function is separable, it cannot be isotropic or geometrically anisotropic, except for the Gaussian covariance function, which is the only model both separable and isotropic. In this paper, some interesting results concerning the Gaussian covariance model and its properties related to isotropy and separability are given, and moreover, some examples are provided. Finally, a discussion on asymmetric models, with Gaussian marginals, is furnished and the strictly positive definiteness condition is discussed.

Interrelated Factor Demands and Technological Change: An Empirical Assessment of Adjustment for Sectors of the Dutch Economy

Using a translog cost functional form, a formal operational model with an adjustment process according to a first-order autoregressive scheme is presented, that allows the simultaneous determination of factor demands and of technological change in an input–output system. The analysis is carried out for sectors of the Dutch economy over the period 1954–83 and it reveals evidence of the dependence of factor demands on relative prices and on technological change.

运用了规模经济的一般含义和计量方法,并深入分析航空运输业规模经济的成因,然后借鉴规模经济常用的成本函数计量方法,通过柯布-道格拉斯生产函数构造了我国航空运输业成本函数模型,最后利用1990-2009年相关数据对我国航空运输业进行了实证研究,得出了我国航空运输业整体而言存在规模经济的结论,从而为指导我国航空运输业实践提供了依据。

Testing for intertemporal nonseparability

This paper presents a nonparametric analysis of a common class of intertemporal models of consumer choice that relax consumption independence. Within this class and in the absence of any functional form restrictions on instantaneous preferences, we compare the revealed preference conditions for rational habit formation and rational anticipation. We show that these models are observationally equivalent in the presence of finite data sets composed of prices, interest rates, and consumption choices.
