The multidivisional firm is modeled as a system of interconnected nodes that exchange continuous flows of projects of varying
urgency and queue waiting tasks. The main innovation over existing models is that the rate at which waiting projects are taken
into processing depends positively on both the availability of resources and the size of the queue, capturing a salient quality
of human organizations. A transfer pricing scheme for decentralizing the system is presented, and conditions are given to
determine which nodes can be operated autonomously. It is shown that a node can be managed separately from the rest of the

This paper applies a stochastic model to determine the optimal or ideal average planned queue level. The ideal average planned queue level is defined to be the minimum average queue level necessary to ensure that in the long run the probability of work center idle time over a specified planning horizon is no greater than some value α chosen by management. We analyse an M / M /1 queueing model with gated random order of service discipline. In this service discipline there is a waiting room, in which arriving customers are collected, and a service queue. Each time the service queue becomes empty, all customers in the waiting room are instantaneously put in random order in the service queue. We find the joint stationary distribution of the number of customers in the waiting room and the service queue. Furthermore, we obtain the bivariate Laplace–Stieltjes transform of the joint distribution of the sojourn times of a customer in the waiting room and the service queue. 相似文献
