This paper presents a new widely applicable omnibus test for discrete distributions which is based on the difference between the integrated distribution function Ψ(t)=∫t (1−F(x))dx and its empirical counterpart. A bootstrap version of the test for common lattice models has accurate error rates even for small samples and exhibits high power with respect to competitive procedures over a large range of alternatives. Summary A new representation for the characteristic function of the joint distribution of the Mahalanobis distances betweenk independentN(μ, Σ)-distributed points is given. Especially fork=3 the corresponding distribution function is obtained as a special case of multivariate gamma distributions whose accompanying normal distribution has a positive semidefinite correlation matrix with correlationsϱ ij=−a i a j. These gamma distribution functions are given here by one-dimensional parameter integrals. With some further trivariate gamma distributions third order Bonferroni inequalities are derived for the upper tails of the distribution function of the multivariate range ofk independentN(μ, I)-distributed points. From these inequalities very accurate (conservative) approximations to upperα-level bounds can also be computed for studentized multivariate ranges.  相似文献

For the invariant decision problem of estimating a continuous distribution function F with two entropy loss functions, it is proved that the best invariant estimators d 0 exist and are the same as the best invariant estimator of a continuous distribution function under the squared error loss function L (F, d)=∫|F (t) −d (t) |2 dF (t). Two families of kurtosis measures are defined as K 1(b)=E[ab −|z|] and K 2(b)=E[a(1−|z|b)] where z denotes the standardized variable and a is a normalizing constant chosen such that the kurtosis is equal to 3 for normal distributions. K 2(b) is an extension of Stavig's robust kurtosis. As with Pearson's measure of kurtosis β2=E[z 4], both measures are expected values of continuous functions of z that are even, convex or linear and strictly monotonic in ℜ and in ℜ+. In contrast to β2, our proposed kurtosis measures give more importance to the central part of the distribution instead of the tails. Tests of normality based on these new measures are more sensitive with respect to the peak of the distribution. K 1(b) and K 2(b) satisfy Van Zwet's ordering and correlate highly with other kurtosis measures such as L-kurtosis and quantile kurtosis. We construct a copula from the skew t distribution of Sahu et al. ( 2003 ). This copula can capture asymmetric and extreme dependence between variables, and is one of the few copulas that can do so and still be used in high dimensions effectively. However, it is difficult to estimate the copula model by maximum likelihood when the multivariate dimension is high, or when some or all of the marginal distributions are discrete‐valued, or when the parameters in the marginal distributions and copula are estimated jointly. We therefore propose a Bayesian approach that overcomes all these problems. The computations are undertaken using a Markov chain Monte Carlo simulation method which exploits the conditionally Gaussian representation of the skew t distribution. We employ the approach in two contemporary econometric studies. The first is the modelling of regional spot prices in the Australian electricity market. Here, we observe complex non‐Gaussian margins and nonlinear inter‐regional dependence. Accurate characterization of this dependence is important for the study of market integration and risk management purposes. The second is the modelling of ordinal exposure measures for 15 major websites. Dependence between websites is important when measuring the impact of multi‐site advertising campaigns. In both cases the skew t copula substantially outperforms symmetric elliptical copula alternatives, demonstrating that the skew t copula is a powerful modelling tool when coupled with Bayesian inference. In this article, we consider a general form of univariate skewed distributions. We denote this form by GUS(λ; h(x)) or GUS with density s(x|λ, h(x)) = 2f(x)G(λ h(x)), where f is a symmetric density, G is a symmetric differentiable distribution, and h(x) is an odd function. A special case of this general form, normal case, is derived and denoted by GUSN(λ; h(x)). Some representations and some main properties of GUS(λ; h(x)) are studied. The moments of GUSN(λ; h(x)) and SN(λ), the known skew normal distribution of Azzalini (1985), are compared and the relationship between them is given. As an application, we use it to construct a new form for skew t-distribution and skew Cauchy distribution. In addition, we extend Stein’s lemma and study infinite divisibility of GUSN(λ; h(x)).  相似文献

Based on the exponential and Poisson characteristics of the Poisson process, in this work we present some characterizations of the Poisson process as a renewal process. More precisely, let γt be the residual life at time t of the renewal process A={A(t),t≥0 }, under suitable condition, we prove that if Var(γt)=E 2t),∀t≥0, then A is a Poisson process. Both cases, whenG is completely specified (one-sample case) and when it is not specified but a random sample form it is available (two-sample case) are considered. The proposed tests are based onU-statistics. The asymptotic relative efficiency of the tests are compared with several other tests and the test statistics remain asymptotically normal under certain dependency assumptions. In this paper, the maximum likelihood predictor (MLP) of the kth ordered observation, t k, in a sample of size n from a two-parameter exponential distribution as well as the predictive maximum likelihood estimators (PMLE's) of the location and scale parameters, θ and β, based on the observed values t r, …, t s (1≤rs<kn), are obtained in closed forms, contrary to the belief they cannot be so expressed. When θ is known, however, the PMLE of β and MLP of t k do not admit explicit expressions. It is shown here that they exist and are unique; sharp lower and upper bounds are also provided. The derived predictors and estimators are reasonable and also have good asymptotic properties. As applications, the total duration time in a life test and the failure time of a k-out-of-n system may be predicted. Finally, an illustrative example is included. Received: August 1999  相似文献

Exploiting the relation between S and the vectorR of the ranks of the order statistics of theY-sample in the pooled sample, we can obtain exact distributions of many rank tests. We use these to compare powers of the Hajek test (Hajek 1967), the Sidak Vondracek test (1957) and the Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon test. We derive some order relations between the values of the probagility-functions under each model. Hence find that the tests based onS (1) andS (n) are the UMP rank tests for the alternative (a). Let X = (X 1,...,X n ) be a sample from an unknown cumulative distribution function F defined on the real line . The problem of estimating the cumulative distribution function F is considered using a decision theoretic approach. No assumptions are imposed on the unknown function F. A general method of finding a minimax estimator d(t;X) of F under the loss function of a general form is presented. The method of solution is based on converting the nonparametric problem of searching for minimax estimators of a distribution function to the parametric problem of searching for minimax estimators of the probability of success for a binomial distribution. The solution uses also the completeness property of the class of monotone decision procedures in a monotone decision problem. Some special cases of the underlying problem are considered in the situation when the loss function in the nonparametric problem is defined by a weighted squared, LINEX or a weighted absolute error.  相似文献

A bandit problem consisting of a sequence of n choices (n) from a number of infinitely many Bernoulli arms is considered. The parameters of Bernoulli arms are independent and identically distributed random variables from a common distribution F on the interval [0,1] and F is continuous with F(0)=0 and F(1)=1. The goal is to investigate the asymptotic expected failure rates of k-failure strategies, and obtain a lower bound for the expected failure proportion over all strategies presented in Berry et al. (1997). We show that the asymptotic expected failure rates of k-failure strategies when 0<b1 and a lower bound can be evaluated if the limit of the ratio F(1)–F(t) versus (1–t)b exists as t1 for some b>0.  相似文献

This article consider M-type regressions which include mean, median and quantile regressions. The M-estimator of the slope parameter β 0 is obtained through piecewise local polynomial approximation of the nonparametric component. The local M-estimator of g(·) is also obtained by replacing β 0 in model with its M-estimator and using local linear approximation. The asymptotic distribution of the estimator of β 0 is derived. The asymptotic distributions of the local M-estimators of g(·) at both interior and boundary points are also established. Various applications of our main results are given. In this paper we consider the case of the scale-contaminated normal (mixture of two normals with equal mean components but different component variances: (1−p)N(μ,σ2)+pN(μ,τ2) with σ and τ being non-negative and 0≤p≤1). Here is the scale error and p denotes the amount with which this error occurs. It's maximum deviation to the best normal distribution is studied and shown to be montone increasing with increasing scale error. A closed-form expression is derived for the proportion which maximizes the maximum deviation of the mixture of normals to the best normal distribution. In the reliability studies, k-out-of-n systems play an important role. In this paper, we consider sharp bounds for the mean residual life function of a k-out-of-n system consisting of n identical components with independent lifetimes having a common distribution function F, measured in location and scale units of the residual life random variable X t  = (Xt|X > t). We characterize the probability distributions for which the bounds are attained. We also evaluate the so obtained bounds numerically for various choices of k and n.  相似文献
