Newer subsidiaries of a multinational enterprise (MNE) in a foreign (host) country will rarely possess the knowledge required for its performance. As such, a newer subsidiary will learn vicariously from the experiences of older subsidiaries of similar industries and the same MNE operating in the same host country. In particular, the newer subsidiary will learn two types of knowledge from older subsidiaries, namely, operational knowledge related to their experiences in the host country and their knowledge about local markets. Furthermore, we theorize that higher parent MNE ownership in newer subsidiaries will facilitate vicarious learning. We add that as newer subsidiaries gain experience, they become less dependent on vicarious learning from older subsidiaries. We find support for our hypotheses using a longitudinal sample of MNE subsidiaries in India. We conclude with implications for future research.  相似文献

文章以新能源产业为例,根据《战略性新兴产业分类》,从中国工业企业数据库遴选出归属该产业的企业。利用微观企业层面的大样本数据,对企业创新绩效进行综合性研究。基于面板Probit计量模型的估计结果表明:企业的R&D投入、出口与否和企业知识积累对企业的创新产出有明显正向效应。企业规模、企业资本密集度等因素对创新产出的重要性因所有制不同而不同。政府需要采取有针对性的政策来诱导企业尽可能多地进行R&D投入,扩大出口以及增加企业本身知识积累。  相似文献

企业多角化和绩效之间的关系是战略管理研究的中心之一。本文以多角化企业的范围经济优势和内部交易成本为理论起点,结合我国制度环境特征,检验了我国中小企业多角化与绩效的关系。实证分析结果证实了二者之间存在“∩”型关系,即一定程度内的多角化能促进企业绩效,超过一定程度,企业绩效将随多角化程度的增加而显著降低。  相似文献

This study focused on a taxonomic analysis of export marketing strategy pursued by U.S. electronics exporters, and identified six distinct strategy types, i.e., innovative differentiation, low price leadership, promotion- and technology-based differentiation, low price leadership with deemphasis on technology, marketing differntiation with product adaptation, and "stuck in the middle." The study also identified the significant impact of export marketing strategy on export performance. Two strategy types, i.e., low price leadership and innovative differentiation, were found to be particularly successful.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Purpose: This research intends to investigate the effects of formal market institutions on managers’ willingness to use personal networks, such as guanxi in China, for business success.

Methodology: We collect data from a major cellular phone manufacturer and its 277 retailers across China. We employ Fuzzy set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (FsQCA) to identify necessary conditions and causal recipes (combinations of antecedent conditions) for three elements of guanxi between boundary spanners (i.e., ganqing, information favor, and business support) and a firm’s operational performance.

Findings: We find that formal market institutions are not the sole factor influencing managers’ decisions on exercising guanxi practices and, in turn, achieving interfirm collaboration. We also find that there exists more than one causal recipe leading to each key element of guanxi between boundary spanners. The results also suggest that well-established formal market institutions would never be able to completely eliminate guanxi practices in China.

Originality: This paper is among the first to examine the joint effects of formal market institutions and key characteristics of interfirm relationships on the use of guanxi practices.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In this article, the authors review talent management practices in information technology (IT) companies from Russia, India, and China, discussing their differences and similarities. Using the emerging market context, the authors debate the factors influencing talent management, specifically in IT companies. The article examines the relevant research on the main talent management issues in Russia, India, and China, and offers one of the first intercountry comparative analyses of talent management practices in IT companies from emerging markets. The authors argue that although talent management practices are influenced by different institutional and cultural factors, there are similarities and differences that can be explained by the emerging market and industry-specific contexts.  相似文献

This article studies the idea of Corporate Social Performance (CSP) from a critical perspective using empirical elements derived from analysis of year 2000 ARESE data. ARESE is the French first mover social rating agency providing quantified data about the Social Performance of French companies. Abstract

This paper reviews the concept of managerial competence as applied in transportation management in developing and developed economies, using Boyatzis' (1982) model of effective job performance. Boyatzis postulated that effective performance of a job is the attainment of specific results or outcomes required by the job through specific actions while maintaining or being consistent with policies, procedures, and conditions of the organizational environment. Literature search and interviews with managers with extensive experience in Nigeria and the United Kingdom reveal that Boyatzis' constructs are valid within the developed economies. However, within the developing economies, it is found that modifications are required to accommodate cultural and socio-political realities and to match the skills of individuals with their current and future roles in an organization. The study also found that there are similarities in competency requirements between the two countries. It is concluded with a recommendation that management methods be adapted rather than adopted, via such strategies as the community concept approach which emphasizes, for example, on the job training with formal theoretical reinforcement at later stages, and that practical universality of management strategies may be a myth.  相似文献

文章以华南地区外向型制造企业为例,对IT能力、战略柔性及绩效关系进行了实证研究。结果表明,IT能力只对非财务绩效有显著的直接正向影响,而对财务绩效没有,但会通过战略柔性中介作用于两类绩效。IT能力对先动柔性和响应柔性均有显著的直接正向影响,同时,先动柔性和响应柔性对非财务绩效具有显著的直接正向影响,但先动柔性对财务绩效的直接影响却不显著。  相似文献

This paper examines the interplay between national cultural dimensions and the design, enactment, and experience of a Western model of a performance management system (PMS) in a non‐Western setting. Data from four organizations in Pakistan indicate that domestic organizations are designing their PMSs in accordance with Western practices. Additionally, it reveals that during enactment and experience, the cultural values of low assertiveness, high in‐group collectivism, and high power distance interact, although to varying degrees, with continuous feedback, appraisal meetings, final ratings, outcomes, and objective setting. Thus, while convergence in design reflects the far‐reaching influence of globalization, divergence is attributable to cultural values which act as a deep‐rooted force during enactment.  相似文献

耕地保护是事关中国粮食安全以及社会经济可持续发展的重大课题,为此,政府一直致力于通过世界上最严格的制度及政策措施保护耕地。但问题是,由于各地的工业化和城市化程度不同,其产业结构和社会经济发展也极不均衡,显然,政府绝不可能在全国范围内用统一的政策标准来衡量各地的耕地保护状况。因此,政府可以立足于区域优势以及利益互动等方式来实现耕地保护目标,这不仅符合市场经济体制的基本要求,也有助于实现耕地总量控制、发挥区域经济产业优势以及区域协调发展的统一。在市场经济条件下,政府可以通过构建区域利益互动机制来实现中国耕地保护制度的创新。  相似文献
