This paper gives an analytical expression for the best linear unbiased estimator (BLUE) of the unknown parameters in the linear
Haar-wavelet model. From the analytical expression, we solve for the eigenvalues of the covariance matrix of the BLUE in analytical
form. Further, we use these eigenvalues to construct some conventional discrete optimal designs for the model. The equivalences
among these optimal designs are demonstrated and some examples are also given.

Consider the problem of discriminating between two rival response surface models and estimating parameters in the identified model. To construct designs serving for both model discrimination and parameter estimation, the M γ-optimality criterion, which puts weight γ (0≤γ≤1) for model discrimination and 1 − γ for parameter estimation, is adopted. The corresponding M γ-optimal product design is explicitly derived in terms of canonical moments. In general, the construction of optimal designs is apparently a difficult task for the approximation of a random field indexed
by more than one dimension. Besides the rate of convergence of the minimum achievable error hardly anything is known until
now. However, if there is an immanent structure present in the random field, then, taking this structure into account, improved
estimates can be obtained. For this situation we present adequate designs which show, at least, a nearly optimal performance.

This paper considers the problem of procuring truthful responses to estimate the proportion of qualitative characteristics. In order to protect the respondent's privacy, various techniques of generating randomized response rather than direct response are available in the literature. But the theory concerning them is generally developed with no attention to the required level of privacy protection. Illustrating two randomization devices, we show how optimal randomized response designs may be achieved. The optimal designs of forced response procedure as well as BHARGAVA and SINGH [Statistica (2000) Vol. 6, pp 315–321] procedure are shown to be special cases. In addition, the equivalent designs of optimal WARNER [Journal of the American Statistical Association (1965) Vol. 60, pp. 63–69] procedure are considered as well. It is also shown that stratification with proportional allocation will be helpful for improving the estimation efficiency. 相似文献

In this paper we illustrate how certain design problems can be simplified by reparametrization of the response function. This alternative viewpoint provides further insights than the more traditional approaches, like minimax, Bayesian or sequential techniques. The stochastic specification of input-output response is examined. Postulates are set forth which seem reasonable on the basis of a priori theorizing and observed behavior. It is found that commonly used formulations are restrictive and may lead to inefficient and biased results. A function which satisfies the postulates is suggested. Two- and four-stage procedures for estimation of the resulting function are then outlined. The estimators are shown to be consistent and, in the latter case, asymptotically efficient under normality. 相似文献

Based on a tractable “endogeneous technology choice” framework, we provide a microfoundation for aggregate normalized constant elasticity of substitution (CES) production functions with non-neutral, factor-augmenting technical change. In this framework, firms are allowed to choose unit productivities of capital and labor optimally from a technology menu constructed under the assumption that unit factor productivities (UFPs) are independently Weibull-distributed. The Weibull distribution itself is also microfounded here: based on extreme value theory, it is found to be an accurate and robust approximation of the true UFP distribution if technologies consist of a large number of complementary components. 相似文献

Two ge neral classes of search designs for factor screening experiments with factors at three levels
In this paper, we are presenting general classes of factor screening designs for identifying a few important factors from a list of m (≥ 3) factors each at three levels. A design is a subset of 3m possible runs. The problem of finding designs with small number of runs is considered here. A main effect plan requires at least (2m + 1) runs for estimating the general mean, linear and quadratic effects of m factors. An orthogonal main effect plan requires, in addition, the number of runs as a multiple of 9. For example, when m=5, a main effect plan requires at least 11 runs and an orthogonal main effect plan requires 18 runs. Two general factor screening designs presented here are nonorthogonal designs with (2m− 1) runs. These designs, called search designs permit us to search for and identify at most two important factors out of m factors under the search linear model introduced in Srivastava (1975). For example, when m=5, the two new plans given in this paper have 9 runs, which is a significant improvement over an orthogonal main effect plan with 18 runs in terms of the number of runs and an improvement over a main effect plan with at least 11 runs. We compare these designs, for 4≤m≤ 10, using arithmetic and geometric means of the determinants, traces, and maximum characteristic roots of certain matrices. Two designs D1 and D2 are identical for m=3 and this design is an optimal design in the class of all search designs under the six criteria discussed above. Designs D1 and D2 are also identical for m=4 under some row and column permutations. Consequently, D1 and D2 are equally good for searching and identifying one important factor out of m factors when m=4. The design D1 is marginally better than the design D2 for searching and identifying one important factor out of m factors when m=5, … , 10. The design D1 is marginally better than the D2 for searching and identifying two important factors out of m factors when m=5, 7, 9. The design D2 is somewhat better than the design D1 for m=6, 8. For m=10, D1 is marginally better than D2 w.r.t. the geometric mean and D2 is marginally better than D1 w.r.t. the arithmetic mean of the maximum characteristic roots. 相似文献

U-type designs and orthogonal Latin hypercube designs (OLHDs) have been used extensively for performing computer experiments. Both have good spaced filling properties in one-dimension. U-type designs may not have low correlations among the main effects, quadratic effects and two-factor interactions. On the other hand, OLHDs are hard to be found due to their large number of levels for each factor. Recently, alternative classes of U-type designs with zero or low correlations among the effects of interest appear in the literature. In this paper, we present new classes of U-type or quantitative \(3\) -orthogonal designs for computer experiments. The proposed designs are constructed by combining known combinatorial structures and they have their main effects pairwise orthogonal, orthogonal to the mean effect, and orthogonal to both quadratic effects and two-factor interactions. 相似文献

The paper presents a Bayesian estimation of CES production functions. The proposed estimation method is easier to use than methods so far developed and it allows a direct comparison with the maximum likelihood estimator. A Bayesian highest posterior density interval inference is made to examine the validity of the Cobb–Douglas representation. The method is applied to Japanese macro data and to micro data on two Japanese manufacturing plants. The results indicate that the current practice of employing the Cobb–Douglas form a priori ought to be corrected. In addition, the micro data present results paradoxical to the commonly held view of capital intensity. 相似文献

This article presents discussions on the optimal and robust designs for trigonometric regression models under different optimality criteria. First, we investigate the classical Q-optimal designs for estimating the response function in a full trigonometric regression model with a given order. The equivalencies of Q-, A-, and G-optimal designs for trigonometric regression in general are also articulated. Second, we study minimax designs and their implementation in the case of trigonometric approximation under Q-, A-, and D-optimality. Then, We indicate the existence of the symmetric designs that are D-optimal minimax designs for general trigonometric regression models, and prove the existence of the symmetric designs that are Q- or A-optimal minimax designs for two particular trigonometric regression models under certain conditions. 相似文献

The issues of designing and locating a secondary energy generation facility are considered in a generalised Weber model. The effects of factor substitution, transmission costs and line losses on planning problems are analysed.
