This study follows a resource-based theory perspective and aims to analyze the interorganizational relationships between hospitals and outpatient physicians, and hospital financial performance. In the light of increasing interdependence among healthcare providers which has made the coordination of service provision more complex, such relationships could be considered a resource for hospitals that lead to higher performance. In this study, the results from a survey of medical directors were combined with financial performance indicators of their hospitals. The results show that having effective interorganizational relationships is positively associated with the hospital's profitability. This finding emphasizes the importance of an investment in interorganizational relationships from the hospital's point of view.  相似文献

Abstract

The establishment of a compelling brand lies at the heart of a franchise network’s success. To maintain brand integrity, franchisors rely on franchisees to deliver the brand promise consistently. However, franchisee behaviour is sometimes difficult to manage, impacting negatively on the franchise brand. In adopting an internal brand management theoretical lens, this study provides new insight into the development of franchisees as brand champions. This is achieved through the empirical validation of a model, which encapsulates the dynamics of important antecedent variables (i.e. information generation, knowledge dissemination, the ‘H’ factor, role clarity, franchisee satisfaction, and brand commitment) in creating franchise brand champions. The findings provide significant theoretical and practical implications and lay the foundation for future research in this important research domain.  相似文献

The literature and the press tout organizational culture as a major source of competitive advantage and a key approach through which organizations can achieve superior effectiveness. However, research on this link within and across global regions remains inconclusive. Grounding the study on the resource-based view of the firm, analysis of 238 plants from eight countries shows that, while individual culture types predict manufacturing effectiveness, the combined effects of multiple culture types have a greater effect. Different culture types emerge as significant in East and West regions depending on the effectiveness dimension prioritized by the plant.  相似文献

This article investigates the linkages between brand authenticity, brand trust, and SME growth from a CEO perspective. Brand authenticity is operationalized as consisting of three factors: brand consistency, brand customer orientation, and brand congruency. The hypotheses derived in this paper will be tested with new measures and data from 285 German SMEs using structural equation modeling. The results confirm that brand consistency and congruency foster brand trust, which in turn drives SME growth.  相似文献

Why do consumers choose a private versus national brand? A between-subjects factorial design was used to address this question in two product categories: shampoo and athletic shoes. Three determining factors were used—regulatory focus: promotion versus prevention; brand types: national versus private; and attribute framing: hedonic versus utilitarian—to predict consumer attitude towards the brand, its ad, and purchase intention. The results provide support for the interactions between regulatory focus and attribute framing for shampoo, and between regulatory focus and brand types for shoes. When exposed to shampoo ads, promotion focused consumers have a more positive attitude toward the ad and a higher purchase intention if the ad features utilitarian rather than hedonic attributes. Further, both promotion and prevention focused consumers prefer national brands of shoes to private labels. One possible explanation may lie in private versus public consumption of shampoo and shoes.  相似文献

Despite considerable interest in the nature and role of marketing using a service perspective [Vargo S., Lusch R. Evolving to a new dominant logic for marketing. J Mark 2004; 68 (1): 1-17] there is limited research about branding. Research to date tends to be qualitative [e.g., Berry L. Cultivating service brand equity. J Acad Mark Sci 2000; 28: 128-137; de Chernatony L., Segal-Horn S. The criteria for successful services brands. Eur J Mark 2003; 37 (7/8): 1095-1118] rather than quantitative. This research closes this gap by developing and testing a theory of the influence of the service brand on the customer value-loyalty process. The model includes the traditional influence of brand image plus three additional influences that more fully reflect the broader service perspective (company image, employee trust, and company trust). Using survey data of a sample of 552 airline customers, the analysis shows there is a direct influence of all the aspects of the brand on customers' perceptions of value. In addition brand image, company image and employee trust have a mediated influence on customer value through customers' perceptions of service quality. Finally the analysis shows that a service brand does not have a direct influence on customer loyalty but rather its influence is mediated through customer value. This paper concludes with a discussion of the managerial and research implications.  相似文献

The relation between consumer-based brand equity and brand performance was investigated across 15 product categories in Brazil and the UK. Brand equity was conceptualized as related to the level of social benefit offered by each brand and was measured with a simple questionnaire that asked consumers to rate brands with respect to their familiarity and quality levels. These measures were then related to brand market share and revenue. Results showed that the relation between consumer-based brand equity and brand performance varies across product categories, indicating that products differ with respect to their level of brandability and suggesting ways to measure it.  相似文献

Brand attachment is at the core of building strong consumer brand relationships, which has important strategic significance for hotel enterprises and brands in acquiring a sustainable competitive advantage. Currently, neither the mechanisms underlying brand attachment nor the factors influencing hotel brand attachment are clearly understood. Functional, symbolic, and hedonic needs influence brand selection. This paper analyzed the effect of these three factors on consumers’ perceived value and brand attachment. The mediating effects of customer sentimental value were also evaluated. This study expands our understanding of what determines brand attachment by showing that sentimental value mediates the relationships between functional value, symbolic value, hedonic value, and brand attachment. It also has managerial implications for the hotel industry.  相似文献

Most consumer-based brand equity (CBBE) models are linear and fail to capture the complexity of the brand equity construct and its benefits in terms of key consumer behavioral outcomes. More complex and dynamic models focusing on CBBE as a process often lack empirical support particularly from more than one country. This study builds on and extends previous research by empirically examining the configural nature of the CBBE building process cross-nationally, and by investigating differences vis-a-vis key consumer behavioral outcomes (namely, willingness to pay a price premium, brand recommendation and repurchase intention). These differences are postulated and explained through culture theory particularly the cultural dimension of individualism/collectivism. Using fuzzy-set/Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fs/QCA), survey data from Greece and Germany support the robustness of the extended CBBE model. The model shows that overall brand equity and consumer behavioral outcomes are created through the brand building, brand understanding, and brand relationship blocks, and identifies core causes and common patterns across countries providing a useful diagnostic tool for international brand management.  相似文献

This paper is the first to apply the three-stage data envelopment analysis procedure to analyze the impact of ecommerce on hotel performance. After purging the effects of exogenous factors, this study found that there are no significant differences in efficiency owing to different ecommerce adoption status. In other words, ecommerce adoption is not the main determinant of the efficiency of international tourist hotels in Taiwan.  相似文献

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has attracted wider research interests over recent decades. While some studies have examined the impact of CSR activities on firm competitive advantage (CA), the findings so far remain contradictory. Moreover, the role of export orientation, firm strategy, and structure on the association between CSR and CA has not been explicitly examined. Thus, the purpose of this study is to examine the moderating role of export orientation, firm strategy, structure, and firm size on the association between CSR and CA. Using a sample of 179 responses from management staff in organizations across five sectors in a developing country context of Ghana, the study found positive effects of CSR on CA. The study contributes to the resource‐based view (RBV) scholarship by confirming the important complementary effect of export orientation and organizational structure as important resources and capabilities on the CSR–competitiveness relationship. However, no evidence of a moderating effect of firm strategy, or firm size on the CSR–CA relationship was found. These findings are instructive, impactful, and enrich the existing literature on CSR and strategy. Implications for theory and practice are also discussed.  相似文献

This research investigates the effects of advertising strategy, that is, rational advertising and emotional advertising, on brand love. Based on the consumer-brand relationship literature, brand love is defined as a reciprocal, dynamic, multiplex, and purposive relationship between satisfied consumers and their brands, and has three key components: brand intimacy, brand passion, and brand commitment. Using a series of pretests and a main experiment, we examine how rational and emotional advertising affect brand love as well as its components for different products and services. Results show that for products, there is an interaction between advertising strategy and product type in influencing brand love. Specifically, rational advertising is more effective for utilitarian-value based products while emotional advertising is more effective for hedonic-value based products. For services, we find that emotional advertising is more effective for both utilitarian- and hedonic-value based services.  相似文献

Prior research on post-acquisition performance suggests positive, negative, or no wealth creation for the acquiring firms. Grounding our arguments on the extended resource-based view, the current article proposes that business group–affiliated firms leverage their affiliation advantages to attain superior long-term acquisition performance, relative to standalone firms, especially in emerging economies such as India. Additionally, we hypothesize that both within-group heterogeneity, manifested as prior group experience, group diversification, and intra-group variation in the form of horizontal ties through boards of directors, also affect the long-term post-acquisition performance of affiliated firms. The findings, obtained with a buy-and-hold abnormal returns method applied to a sample of 468 majority stake mergers and acquisitions, both domestic and cross-border, by Indian firms during 2005–2013, provide robust support for the theoretical arguments.  相似文献

This study focuses on the perceptions of franchisees and analyzes the influence of brand equity on franchisee performance. The factors that constitute brand equity are also assessed. Factor analysis was used to generate valid and reliable scales based on a sample of 205 Portuguese franchisee firms, and structural equation modeling methodology was then employed in the analysis. The results show franchisee-based brand equity (FBBE) to be a multivariate factor with strong influence on performance. This study contributes significantly to the literature by showing the perspective of franchisees toward franchising. It also has implications on the adequacy of corporate strategy in achieving performance.  相似文献

As an increasing number of corporations, both in Europe and the United States, establish consumer affairs departments, it becomes important to define the role of these new organizational units in the relationship between consumers and business firms. The consumer affairs department provides the consumer with an opportunity to make his voice heard in management decision making, and business firms with an opportunity to develop a better understanding of consumer concerns.This paper aims at laying a first foundation for the understanding of the consumer affairs function within profit-seeking organizations that operate in essentially market-directed economies. Using a communications approach, it is attempted to show that the consumer affairs department can, if properly integrated within the corporate decision making structure, perform a valuable function as a consumer communications channel.

Zusammenfassung Mit ihrer Kritik an Produkten, Marketing und dem Unternehmertum insgesamt hat die Verbraucherbewegung auch viele Unzulänglichkeiten bei der Kommunikation auf Märkten aufgezeigt. Die Einflußmöglichkeiten für Verbraucher sind ziemlich eingeschränkt und ermöglichen in der Regel keinen unmittelbaren Dialog zwischen Unternehmensleitung und Verbraucher. Folglich sind die Möglichkeiten der Verbraucher sehr begrenzt, ihre Wünsche bei unternehmerischen Entscheidungen zur Geltung zu bringen. Einen Weg zur Überbrückung dieser Kommunikationslücke sehen Firmen darin, daß sie eine innerbetriebliche Abteilung für die Belange speziell von Verbrauchern einrichten. Diese Abteilung bietet dem Verbraucher die Gelegenheit, in ein Gespräch mit der Firma einzutreten und die Geschäftspolitik und Produktgestaltung zu beeinflussen.Mit der wachsenden Zahl von Firmen, die sowohl in Europa als auch in den Vereinigten Staaten solche Abteilungen für Verbraucherbelange einrichten, wird es wichtig, die Funktion dieser neuen Organisationseinheiten für die Beziehung zwischen Nachfragern und Anbietern klarzulegen. Der vorliegende Beitrag versucht, erste Grundlagen für das Verständnis von Verbraucherabteilungen innerhalb gewinnorientierter Unternehmungen zu legen. Er versucht zu zeigen, daß solche Abteilungen eine wertvolle Aufgabe als Kommunikationsweg für Verbraucher erfüllen können — vorausgesetzt, sie sind angemessen in die Entscheidungsstruktur der Unternehmung integriert.

Recent changes in deregulation and technology have made banking one of the most competitive sectors in the global economy. Within this background, corporate image management has gained importance as a way of differentiating companies. This paper aims to develop a scale to analyse the corporate image in banking. Derived from a review of the literature, a scale with the most cited dimensions of analysis is developed. This scale is then tested by means of an empirical study of 450 individuals, where dimensionality, reliability and validity requirements are confirmed. Drawing on social identity theory, this study provides a model explaining the underlying process through which transformational leadership influences creative behavior and organizational citizenship behaviors. Individual differentiation and group identification are proposed as social identity mechanisms reflecting the characteristics of personal and collective identity orientations that underpin the differential effects of transformational leadership behaviors on performance outcomes. The model is tested with data from a sample of 250 front-line employees and their immediate managers working in five banks in the People's Republic of China. Results of hierarchical linear modeling provide support for the model whereby group-focused and individual-focused transformational leadership behaviors exert differential impacts on individual differentiation and group identification. Furthermore, individual differentiation mediates the relationship between individual-focused transformational leadership and creative behavior, whereas group identification mediates the relationships between group-focused transformational leadership and OCBs toward individuals and groups. Implications for theory and practice are discussed and future research directions are outlined.  相似文献
