This paper presents a tourism destination development sequence for Dali, Yunnan Province, China. The development of Dali highlights limits in the power of the local government as the lead stakeholder, which took a top-down approach to economic development. The government sought to address increasing control of the tourism sector by external tour operators through increasing its own control of local tourism attractions. This approach has been only partially successful in reducing distortions in the tourism channel. The origins of these distortions are described and analysed. A number of additional responses are suggested to improve the local benefits obtained from the inflow of tourists to this new destination area including development of a more market oriented competitive strategy that seeks to co-opt stakeholders into collaborative activities.  相似文献

西部旅游开发已进入加速阶段,面临着加入WTO后的挑战和东部地区的激烈竞争,文章从战略高度对西部旅游开发战备进行概括,提出经营管理、产品开发和空间布局等三大模式,即政府主导与企业化、主要是集团运作相结合的管理运营模式,三优(优势资源→优势产品→优势产业)转化的产品开发模式,以点带面的据点式与以线穿点的点轴式结合的空间布局模式,文章阐述了这些模式的内涵、意义和实施步骤。  相似文献

本文通过对现有高铁和规划高铁两种情境下京津冀地区城市旅游空间相互作用的测算与比较,分析了高速铁路的建设对京津冀地区旅游空间相互作用的空间分布特征、变化幅度和空间差异的影响,并识别了不同城市的主要空间相互作用的联系方向。研究发现:高速铁路显著提升了城市旅游空间相互作用总量,缩小了空间差异。其中,唐山、张家口、承德3个城市获益最大,作为客源地产出作用的位序分别提升了3位、2位和2位,作为目的地接收作用的位序分别提升了3位、4位和4位,而衡水则排在全区最末位。高速铁路网络化运营后,张家口作为客源地产出的空间作用弱于作为目的地接收的空间作用,而秦皇岛作为目的地接收的空间作用小于作为客源地产出的空间作用,且北京、承德作为目的地的空间作用被高速铁路网络放大,而唐山则提高了作为客源地产出空间作用的能力。最后,本文提出,240分钟的旅行时间是城市间产生较强旅游空间作用力的重要分界线,并对京津冀地区在高铁网络化运营时代的旅游产业发展提出了相关建议。  相似文献

Tourism is perceived as an important source of foreign exchange that is used for financing economic growth. This study offers a modern approach to tourism-led growth and investigates the causal relationship between tourism and economic growth in the European, Asian and African countries that border the Mediterranean Sea. The study uses panel data for the period 1998–2011, and adopts a panel Granger causality analysis developed by Dumitrescu and Hurlin (2012) to assess the contribution tourism makes to economic growth in each country. The results indicate that the direction of causality between tourism and economic growth depends on the country group and tourism indicator. Furthermore, the European countries are better able to generate growth from tourism in the Mediterranean region.  相似文献

This paper outlines the nature of the current economic recession in the USA. It discusses the impact of the recession on tourism volume, travel-generated employment, and travel prices. It presents data from the Data Center's monthly National Travel Survey on how individual types of travel and types of travellers are adjusting to the overall decline in economic activity. Finally, conclusions are presented to help planners, marketers and policymakers deal more effectively with future recessions. This paper forms part of a more general study; a similar discussion of travel in periods of economic recovery is planned for later publication.  相似文献

International tourism has become very important to several developing countries as a major source of foreign exchange earnings for their economic development. This article explores the potentials of countries of the Latin America and Caribbean region in the global market for international tourism up to the end of the next decade. This was achieved by analyzing past trends of international tourism in the region, and projecting these trends to the year 2020 using a combination of four different time‐series projection models evaluated by the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE). Results show that international tourism arrivals into the Latin America and Caribbean region would increase from 51.21 million in 2004 (end of observed period) to between 87.58 million and 100.03 million by the year 2020. The corresponding figures for international tourism receipts would go from US$34.11 billion in 2004 to between US$64.92 billion and US$75.79 billion by the year 2020. Socioeconomic impacts of these findings are given, and recommendations for marketing strategies, government public policies, and directions for future research are discussed.  相似文献

In addition to providing formal wage labor in hotels, airports, and the service infrastructure, tourism is said to provide possibilities for independent indigenous enterprise in handicrafts, entertainment, transport, through which the Gambians may, in effect, economically “lift themselves up by their bootstraps.” Such is the theory. This paper analyzes the actual employment possibilities in The Gambia provided by its recent tourism investment. From the findings of an economic survey the author concludes that hopes of economic development being catalyzed by tourism are unfounded and misleading. This conclusion is supported by a structural analysis and a characterization of the tourist industry in The Gambia by an investigation into the economic forces at work in the country, and by direct observations made by informants and the author concerning the impact tourism has made in spheres non-economic: the moral, the social, and the family.  相似文献

This study reviews the general literature on tourism and crime and the recent history of violent and property crime in several Caribbean destinations. It highlights the failure of most previous research to discriminate crimes against tourists vs. residents. Annual crime data for Barbados for 1989–93 are analyzed and reveal that overall guest victimization rates are higher than host rates. Residents are significantly more likely to be victimized by violent crime while tourists are significantly more likely to experience property crime and robbery. Monthly data on guest victimization for 1990–93 show similar patterns. The paper concludes with a number of measures to enhance tourist safety.  相似文献
