A study of the performance of Developmental Studies students in the principles of economics

This study assesses the performance of Developmental Studies students in the principles of economics. The null hypothesis is that once demographic and academic variables are taken into account, completion of a developmental studies course(s) contributes nothing to the probability of success in a principles of economics course. The study analyzes a sample of 1,053 principles of economics students during the 1989 academic year. A logit regression model is used to estimate the probability of successfully completing a course in the principles of economics. The study finds that the completion of the Developmental Study Skills course is an important determinant of the probability of success in the principles of economics courses.     

The application of a graph-partitioning algorithm to the scheduling of curriculum requirements

In this paper we consider a problem involving the scheduling of courses to academic terms in order that curriculum requirements be satisfied. The problem is converted to one in which a set of sub-graphs of a complete graph are sought which are of maximal total edge weight. A previously developed algorithm is modified to treat the problem such that a step-by-step procedure is given and demonstrated. Computational experience with the algorithm is discussed.

基于遗传算法的高校排课系统的研究与实现

遗传算法借鉴生物界自然选择和遗传机制,使用群体搜索技术,处理传统搜索方法难以解决的复杂的非线性问题。排课问题是一个NP完全问题,除了穷举法没有绝对的求解方法。高校排课涉及到课程、教室、班级、教师和时间五方面相互关联的因素。按照遗传算法思想,对初始课表进行优化,并用Delphi进行编程,试验结果表明,遗传算法对课表的优化有着比较显著的作用。     

教育管理技术方法研究——课程重要程度的评价

课程重要程度是一个至今没有被定义的概念。如何评价课程重要程度 ,是科学规划课程必须解决的难题。各国课程理论却没有深入研究这一问题。近年来 ,部分学者探索用价值工程、系统工程等管理技术分析课程问题 ,并提出了一些评价方法 ,如打分法、排序法等。但由于至今对课程重要程度的概念理解不一 ,评价结果偏差很大 ,实际效果不理想。本文首先对课程重要程度进行定义 ,并在深入分析的基础上 ,提出了主要评价指标及其关系模型。同时为了模型应用方便 ,提出应用模型应注意的主要问题和相关建议 ,以及用模糊数学评判结果的思路和方法。     

加强现场教学培养物流管理专业应用型人才

本科财务管理的培养目标应当定位在培养服务与工商企业、金融企业及其他部门的理财专业人才:在课程设计时,要把金融学和会计学专业的主干课程作为财务管理专业主干课的支撑;在教学内容的安排上.要注意协调解决重复交叉和相互衔接的问题。     

Quality assurance in higher education: analysis of grades for reviewing course levels

In quality assurance, degree courses in European higher education have to demonstrate the course level by means of results. These courses produce many results, among them grades, referring to teachers’ evaluations of students’ performances, and it is our proposal to use them as an effective mean to reflect the course level. Our study examines the criteria that are needed to analyze grades as significant indicators for course levels. We considered what might constitute empirical proof of valid grades and from this analysis we established that the main proof of valid grades consists of measurements of construct validity, scale reliability, intercorrelation and face validity. The analyses delivered insights into the relationship between the proof of valid grades and elements of the curriculum. In the light of these insights we developed four characteristics as reference points for curricula realizing the course level. Following these points, we draw up a procedure to create such curricula. This procedure is explored in a study with eight bachelor degree courses. The conclusion is that the procedure traces the causes of invalid grades and confirms that valid grades are significant indicators of the course level.

On the approximation of utility functions for faculty teaching assignments

A number of mathematical programming models have been proposed for generating faculty teaching assignments. Usually these models attempt to maximize the sum of the faculty members' utilities for the courses in the assignments. This paper demonstrates that the use of course utilities ignores important interaction effects in the determination of a faculty member's utility for a teaching schedule. As a result, solutions generated by the models can be far from optimal if the true objective of the scheduler is to maximize faculty utilities for their teaching schedules.     

如何提高高职高专《基础会计》课堂教学的有效性

Where have all the traditional classroom settings gone?—The use of large scale, public sector projects to illustrate a multidisciplinary approach to problem solving

This work describes the evolution and potential of an elective course for students who have already been exposed to the standard techniques of problem solving as presented in traditional courses. Students apply these techniques to large scale problems in directed mullidisciplinary project teams. In doing so, they are provided with a unique learning experience allowing them to serve as a resource to the community. Course projects described here include the promotion of a railing retail district; the formulation, implementation and monitoring of litter reduction strategies; the economic evaluation of using inmate labor to clean public areas; and economic comparisons of recycling strategies for used tires.     

艺术设计基础教学中平面构成课程创新方法
