ABSTRACT

This paper presents an experimental study to measure the effect of animality on consumers' disgust. In this study we have demonstrated how the negative emotion of disgust may be formed within meat consumption. While in the current literature animality is used as a broad and vaguely defined explanatory concept, we conceptualise and operationalise three components of animality; Meat Typicality, Vividness, and Personification. We show for each component that the more the meat stimuli can be animalised the more disgust they would provoke. Empirically, this study provides evidence for disgust with meat as being a phenomenon particularly concerning females and young consumers. The results also show a relatively good performance of personality measures as disgust sensitivity in the prediction of disgust with meat.  相似文献

One can assume that there is most likely not a single person in the western world who has not been to a cinema, nor seen a trailer for a film to be released. This paper discusses consumer expectation influencers of film content and quality based on exploratory qualitative research using the screening of film trailers in New Zealand. The results show that the actors are the greatest influencers on film quality expectations, whilst genre has the greatest influence on film content expectations. This research underlines that whilst film marketers unlike film makers usually have no input in choosing actors, director or genre, they have the power to mediate how these are exposed to consumers in film trailers.  相似文献

This study aims to investigate the effect of item reduction on assortment satisfaction within the red wine category. The study conducted an online experiment using a simulated online wine store. Lowest selling wines were removed after the first buying phase, and the respondents repeated the browsing process in the reduced assortment. A questionnaire measured the shift in perceptions. The results show that assortment perceptions can be maintained in the face of item reduction. There is also a strong association between category familiarity and assortment satisfaction, with differing levels of assortment satisfaction between high and low category familiarity groups. The presence of a favourite item also plays a role in maintaining assortment perceptions. The results suggest that retail managers can reduce assortments by removing low selling items while not affecting customers' assortment perceptions. Furthermore item reduction can be used to increase consumers' satisfaction if they are unfamiliar with the product category. This particular study is limited in the sense that the results were obtained exclusively in an online environment. Future studies may therefore be useful in validating these results in brick and mortar wine outlets.  相似文献

Abstract

An increase in regulatory activity regarding false and deceptive advertising during the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s instigated an increase in the number of articles on the subject in both the academic and trade journals. Most of the developing literature centered on post hoc regulation done by formal government agencies (such as the FTC) and informal self-regulatory agencies (such as NAD/NARB). Largely overlooked was the routine but important advertising clearance process that addresses matters of falseness, deception and taste before the advertisements appear in the media. Recent trends toward de-regulation make the clearance process more important than ever before.

This article focuses on widely followed clearance procedures prevalent among major advertisers who use agencies and national media. A case example is included to show nuances and intricacies of the process. Common exceptions to the example are noted. Figures are included to model the general process and primary concerns of the involved parties.  相似文献
