中国私营经济的现状如何?经历了怎样的发阶段?有怎样的发展趋势?这些私营企业主是以什么方式管理企业的?他们的文化水平、管理水平是否能适应如此激烈的市场竞争?人员构成是怎样的?他们当初下海的目的及创造的业绩又是怎样的?目前困扰私营企业都有哪些问题? 最近由中国社会科学院社会学所、全国工商联研究室共同牵头对21个省、市、自治区的250个市、县、区的1947家私营企业进行了抽样调查。这些调查数据为我们勾勒出了我国私营企业家的众生相。

攸县民营掀起你的盖头来

党的十六大进一步明确了民营企业的经济地位和民营企业家的政治地位,标志着民营经济已进入了一个新的发展时期。本刊于2003年第3期隆重推出了《县市长峰会:无民不活 无外不快》的专题策划,刊发了我省部分县市长在发展民营经济道路上的思路和做法,在全省引起了强烈的反响,读者纷纷来信、致电本刊编辑部,期望本刊对民营经济的发展作进一步的探讨。为此,我们选择了在民营经济发展过程中既有典型性又带有普遍性的攸县进行了调查采访。通过本刊编辑部的深入采访,对攸县民营经济的发展历程进行集中整合,形成了一个完整的系列报道,其包括《攸县民营掀起你的盖头来》、《让位民营 壮士断腕》、《今日民营 再也不能这样活》、《激活民营 政府是靠山 县长当后台》、《民营大观 给攸县一点时间》等5篇,本期刊发其中两篇,其余几篇将在近两期陆续推出。通过对攸县民营经济发展的系列报道,能引起我省在发展民营经济方面的思索和探讨,构筑我省在县域经济发展中的良好氛围,使民营经济向良性发展,这也是我们策划的初衷.

Unveiling the true value of across-strait trade: The global value chain approach

Due to the pervasive nature of value chains, an increasing amount of imported intermediate components and raw materials from other countries are entangled in Taiwan's exports to Mainland China. This circumstance leads to odd across-trait bilateral trade amounts and surpluses favorable towards Taiwan. The purposes of this paper are applying Johnson and Noguera (2012) to extricate value-added exports earned by Taiwan from China and Wang, Wei, and Zhu (2013) to decompose Taiwan's gross exports to China into various meaningful components. The two issues are related to trade in value added and value added in trade. Specifically, the former explores the value added embedded in the source country's exports to the absorbing country as final demand, regardless of whether those goods are directly or indirectly arriving at the absorbing country. The latter only looks where the value added is originated regardless of where it is ultimately absorbed. We show both concepts aim to measure a country's value added from its trades, but from different angles. Each has its own distinct meaning. They are related, but not completely the same.The inter-country input–output (ICIO) table used in this paper comes from the World Input–Output Database (WIOD) (Timmer et al., 2015 and Dietzenbacher et al., 2013). Empirical results indicate that Taiwan's export values to Mainland China shrink by 64.3% when bilateral trades are measured in value-added terms. Furthermore, Taiwan's trade surplus toward China also decreases by 65.2% under this measure. From the viewpoint of value added in trade, the share of value added in Taiwan's gross exports to China continued to decrease and reached 50.9% in 2011, while the components of foreign value added and double counted terms kept growing in recent years.

Unveiling the Endogenous Relationship Between Technical Efficiency and Value Creation in Mergers and Acquisitions in Nigeria

There is a growing literature on how the beneficial impacts of horizontal mergers and acquisitions (M&A) should be measured. Thus far, however, there have been few studies addressing endogeneity between technical efficiency and value creation: they tend to present a bidirectional and simultaneous relationship. This research contributes to the debate by investigating the impact of voluntary horizontal M&A on these metrics in Nigeria between 1995 and 2012, in light of the individual performance of bidders, targets, and the resulting corporate companies. First, technical efficiency, technology gap ratio, and returns-to-scale estimates were computed based on a meta-frontier DEA approach, together with a set of contextual variables that encompass performance indicators which reflect the value creation process. Then, robust regressions were used to discriminate these efficiency estimates in terms of such business-related variables, correcting for endogeneity and controlling for industry and trend effects. The results reveal that these contextual variables significantly impact virtual efficiency and returns-to-scale levels, and that there is a trade-off between efficiency and value creation at some point in the merging process. Managerial implications are derived.
