The Eisenhower Administration and the Demise of GATT: Dancing with Pandora

A bstract . Despite other policy successes, the Eisenhower presidency left a flawed legacy in the area of international trade. Faced with a dilemma of contending domestic and international pressures from 1955–57, it traded short-run success for what would become the long-run weakening of the international trade regime. Yet, this trade-off hides the true irony of what scholars have termed the administration's "ideal solution." The flawed leadership of both Dwight D. Eisenhower and John Foster Dulles helped to create the administration's very dilemma of being caught between contending pressures.     

Dancing in the office: A study of gestures as resistance

Following the art-body-ethics turn in management studies we use dance as an analogy in order to explore how the body can resist organisational control in office work contexts. We argue that in office work gestures can be a site of post-recognition resistance. Drawing on two art videos and on dance studies, we explain that this is operated either through arrest or through flow. In fact aesthetic experiments in gesturing disrupt the work rhythm needed for organisational efficiency and enforced by organisational control. This allows us to contribute primarily to the literature on resistance in organisation studies and relatedly to the growing literature on dance in organisation studies through demonstrating how dance can be a source of resistance.

含软弱结构面的顺倾层边坡失稳边界的研究

通过分析软弱结构面的工程特性随含水量的增大其抗剪强度降低的规律,按照软弱结构面与坡脚倾角的关系把顺倾层坡体分为"潜伏型"和简单顺层型两类。为了得到含软弱结构面的顺倾层边坡的失稳边界的判断函数,把顺倾层状岩体视为各向同性材料,通过弹性力学理论,导出了在极限平衡状态下计算顺倾层状岩体滑坡的失稳边界的方法,该方法简单适用,对顺倾层滑坡失稳机理的研究具有一定的指导意义。     

New Pedagogy and New Content: The Case of Statistics

Statistical education now takes place in a new social context. It is influenced by a movement to reform the teaching of the mathematical sciences in general. At the same time, the changing nature of our discipline demands revised content for introductory instruction, and technology strongly influences both what we teach and how we teach. The case for substantial change in statistics instruction is built on strong synergies between content, pedagogy, and technology. Statisticians who teach beginners should become more familiar with research on teaching and learning and with changes in educational technology. The spirit of contemporary introductions to statistics should be very different from the traditional emphasis on lectures and on probability and inference.

TBL教学法在专科生化教学中的应用探讨

目的:探讨TBL教学法在专科生物化学理论教学的教学效果。方法:曲靖医学高等专科学校2012级临床专业的129名学生,随机分为TBL组和LBL组,课后进行问卷调查和考核。结果:大多数学生对TBL教学满意,TBL组考试成绩得分明显高于LBL组。结论:TBL应用于生物化学教学,效果优于LBL。TBL有助于培养学生自主学习和综合能力,促进学生团队协作,是进行生物化学理论教学的有效模式,值得推广。     

Unhappy with well-being research in the temporary work context: mapping review and research agenda

Abstract

While temporary workers’ specific employment circumstances strongly suggest negative consequences for their well-being, research on temporary workers’ well-being shows serious inconsistencies. To identify possible reasons, we provide an overview of previous well-being research in the temporary work context. The mapping review shows that inconsistencies are caused both by the use of the umbrella term temporary work to describe a wider range of employment forms with divergent characteristics and the use of the buzzword well-being for various well-being indicators. In addition, the portfolio of employment-specific antecedents used is insufficient to gain a comprehensive view of temporary workers’ well-being situation. Based on these findings, we propose an agenda for future well-being research in the temporary work context. A first key implication is that analyses considering country-specific circumstances and employment-specific characteristics of particular atypical employment situations are needed. Secondly, a more comprehensive portfolio of employment-specific and individual antecedents would help with gaining deeper insights into temporary workers’ well-being situation. In addition, effects of well-being on attitudinal and behavioral outcomes should be analyzed to demonstrate the return on investment of organizations’ well-being enhancing activities. Finally, well-being oriented HR practices and their implementation in the temporary work context are part of the proposed research agenda.     

喀纳斯生态安全评价研究——基于生态足迹模型

本文运用生态足迹方法,计算2014年喀纳斯的生态足迹、生态承载力,得出喀纳斯景区2014年各类型土地的生态占用情况,最後根据生态盈余看出喀纳斯景区自然资源利用的可持续状况。结果表明,2014年喀纳斯人均生态足迹为11.729514,人均生态承载力为1.056231,人均生态足迹远大于人均生态承载力,而由于喀纳斯景区的生产性土地是有限的并且是不能增加的,所以提出只有相应减少生态足迹,增加土地资源的利用效率,才能减少赤字状况的出现。
