Abstract

The purpose of this case study was to analyze and compare the total quality management (TQM) practices of three luxury hotels. Leadership, guest and market focus, and information and analysis emerged as the three most significant TQM factors successfully implemented in these three hotels. The human resource focus factor was less successfully integrated into these hotels' operations. Although the three hotels claimed that they managed their processes effectively, these processes were not as well-designed or complex as in many other quality-conscious companies. Strategic planning emerged as one of the most difficult factors to implement. The general managers interviewed argued that these six factors contributed positively to their hotel's business results. This study explores service providers' perceptions of luxury tourism service provision and increases the understanding of luxury tourism services. The research was conducted in Finland, which does not have a strong luxury culture and does not represent a traditional luxury tourism destination. Rather, it is an unexplored and promising destination for tourists who seek unique and untraditional luxury experiences. To examine luxury, eleven narrative interviews were analyzed. The study suggests that Finnish luxury is a new form of luxury, and to understand the core of a luxury tourism offering service providers need to have had their own experiences of luxury, know the context they are operating in and what the customers' expectations of luxury are. Additionally, the level of privacy of the experience affects the service. The goal of service providers in the Finnish context is to offer the customer favorable prerequisites for experiencing a hedonic or eudaimonic well-being experience.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the antecedents and consequences of brand prestige in luxury restaurants. Based on the existing theoretical background, it was proposed that four types of brand-related stimulus form brand experience in consumer memory and thus influence the formation of brand prestige. Through a review of the literature, it was also hypothesized that brand prestige can result in five managerial outcomes: patrons' well-being perception, information costs saved, perceived price fairness, satisfaction and behavioral intentions. Based on the theoretical relationships between the conceptual constructs, a model was proposed and then tested utilizing data collected from 527 luxury restaurant patrons. The results of data analysis indicate that two types of brand-related stimulus (sensory and intellectual) aid in the creation of brand prestige, and can thus help to: enhance patrons' well-being perception; reduce patrons' information searching efforts; and enhance perceived price fairness. As a result, patron satisfaction and positive behavioral intentions can be induced. The critical managerial implications of these findings are then discussed in the latter part of the article.  相似文献

Globalization has motivated managers and scholars in the tourism industry to focus more attention on the problems and characteristics of the cross-cultural service encounter. During these interactions, differing cultural norms and values often create misunderstanding and conflict, which can result in an unhappy customer, a frustrated service provider and lost business. Therefore, the focus of this study was to analyze the effect of intercultural sensitivity on tourism employee performance in cross-cultural service encounters in three similar, but distinct service-dependent markets: the Hawaiian Islands, Greater London (UK) and the state of Florida. The results indicate that tourism employees with high intercultural sensitivity generally scored significantly (p < 0.05) higher than employees with low intercultural sensitivity in terms of service attentiveness, revenue contribution, interpersonal skills, job satisfaction and social satisfaction as they relate to cross-cultural encounters. There was no significant difference in results for motivation to work, tenure (years at present organization) and primary rewards (compensation, recognition, etc.). ABSTRACT

Despite the importance of innovation as a determinant for the success of restaurant businesses, little research has been conducted on the postconsumption evaluations of the image of restaurant innovativeness as perceived by the customer. In order to fill this important gap in the literature, the purpose of this study is to examine the perception of restaurant innovativeness and the effect of this construct on relationship quality. Based on a review of the literature, a conceptual model was developed hypothesizing the effects of the overall image of restaurant innovation on three determinant attributes of relationship quality: trust, commitment, and satisfaction. The model was then tested using data collected from 398 luxury restaurant patrons. The results of data indicate that the overall image of restaurant innovativeness is positively related to relationship quality in the luxury restaurant setting. The theoretical and practical implications of these results are considered.  相似文献

This study attempted to identify common characteristics of long-term restaurant employees through employee interviews. The results of this study indicated that certain themes emerged that were found to be common in these long-term employees, such as financial need to work and having friends who work. 信息技术与酒店业的结合给酒店业带来了新的发展机会.国外有大量的学者致力于信息技术投资与企业生产率及业绩之间关系的研究,但并没有一致的结论.文章通过对广州市高星级酒店的相关调查,获取了第一手数据,借助AMOS软件的验证性因子分析及SPSS软件的相关性分析和多元回归分析功能,以检验信息技术的应用对酒店业绩的影响.结果显示,信息技术“生产率悖论”在高星级酒店业内不存在,前厅应用、客人相关界面应用、餐厅及宴会管理系统及后台应用均对酒店业绩有积极的作用.其中,客人相关界面应用对酒店业绩影响最大,因此应着重投资.文章的结论将为高星级酒店业决定是否战略性地投资于信息技术或集中于某些特定领域提供重要的信息.最后,文章还对研究的局限性以及后续可以开展的研究进行了一定的展望.  相似文献

依附成熟品牌开发新产品可减少失败的风险并带来可观的收益.但如若品牌延伸失败,则不仅无法为延伸产品带来附加价值,而且可能伤害母品牌形象及品牌资产.奢侈品牌已开始将其触角延伸至酒店业,为避免决策失误,有必要对奢侈品在酒店业品牌延伸中的消费者评价进行研究.该研究采用实验研究法,依据2个自变量:高/低品牌概念一致性场景和母品牌拥有者/非拥有者将消费者分为4组实验组和2组对照组,通过对参与实验的对象进行问卷调查,研究和分析不同组间消费者对延伸产品评价及延伸后对母品牌态度评价的评分差异.研究结果显示,母品牌拥有者中,消费者对此2个维度的评价均在高品牌概念一致性场景下高于低品牌概念一致性场景;而在非母品牌拥有者中则相反.  相似文献

This study examined the influences of psychological characteristics (materialism, uniqueness, hedonism, and perfectionism), and demographic characteristics (gender, age, and income) on attitudes toward luxury restaurants. The results showed that consumers who desire materialism and hedonism had favorable attitudes toward luxury restaurants, whereas consumers who desire uniqueness had unfavorable attitudes toward luxury restaurants. Low income populations exhibited more unfavorable attitudes toward luxury restaurants than did middle and high income populations. Consumers who desire uniqueness weakly associate luxury restaurants with overall good service quality, whereas consumers who desire hedonism strongly associate luxury restaurants with overall good service quality.  相似文献
